The room is very large and spacious Although it is not a separate bathroom, it is very close and convenient Dinner and breakfast are very warm Service staff always have a smile on their faces Although the hot spring pool is small, it feels very comfortable to soak. Very good location, just at the starting point of Malongsu It is a all-wood structure, the room is not too soundproof

Right on the main road of Magome, a typical Japanese-style hotel, the breakfast and dinner are not amazing but enough, and there is basically no service, probably due to language barriers. Then it is a bit troublesome to go to the toilet at night, you have to go down the stairs, and the stairs are a bit steep

Our stay was very pleasant. it was very nice to live in traditional place and see all the items the hosts leave: books, figurines, children’s toys: everything felt like home. House was very clean and spacious and futons were comfortable. Conbini is located near the house - also very nice

The small courtyard is very beautiful, but the house is old and the facilities are a bit unable to keep up. For example, there are few plugs in the room, the mobile phone charging is a bit difficult, and the place to soak is not big.

I had a wonderful experience staying one night in Iwasu-so : The email communication for shuttle car pick-up arrangement was efficient! Staff are very friendly, especially Takako-san! The room is quite standard as a ryokan style...spacious and the ”window” faces the pond and the tree which is pretty nice! The food is fantastic (dinner set includes Hida-gyu)! The variety of onsen was great! I particularly like the outdoor onsen (covered)! There is a little theatre and I wish I had the time to see the show....

A wonderful lady runs this place. I spent two nights here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was amazing, I have coeliac disease so I need to eat gluten free and the host made sure that everything i ate for breakfast and dinner was all gluten free. The room I stayed in is a traditional Japanese room and it was really nice, both the room and bathroom were very clean and tidy. I loved my stay and all of the beautiful scenery closeby

The hotel is very convenient except for the inconvenient transportation. The bus station is 10 minutes away from the hotel. The hot springs and breakfast are very good. There is a large supermarket next to the hotel.

The bed was comfortable, the air was clean, and I was glad my throat didn't hurt in the morning. The breakfast buffet was delicious. I wish they had tofu, cucumber, and tomato. I also wish they had yogurt and fruit for dessert.

The staff are mostly polite and competent but the physical hotel and systems are WEIRD. 1. The main entrance doesn't look like an entrance. It's a solid panel if wood which may or may not slide when you are near. 2. You have to take off your shoes and store in cupboards a distance away. Pay ¥1980 if you lose the old fashioned key. No slippers are provided. Is this a capsule hotel? 3. You swipe the card before entering the lift. Therefore any guest can go to any level. Security? 4. The room door opens out. Not in. 5. No housekeeping on 2nd and subsequent days. There's this mess about a brown bag which I didn't bother to understand. 6. Onsen floor is slippery. 7. Too many steps from entrance to check-in desk. Breakfast has a decent spread but the price is now ¥1980.

We loved this guest house. Pleasant common area. Helpful staff. Well located in town. Large room. Lots of resources for travellers hoping to walk the Nakasendo. Shared bathroom facilities were actually a bonus because the whole family could shower at the same time (in individual showers - which were very clean with great water pressure). Walls are thin but all guests/staff were considerate and the area is quiet at night so no issues.
