The location is convenient, right inside the JR station. The bus to Togakushi Shrine is just downstairs, making it a great base for exploring surrounding cities from Nagano. The only downside is that the train tracks are right outside the window, so there's train passing bell noise and track vibrations. If you're sensitive to sleep environments, you might want to reconsider.

The hotel is nicely situated between the train station and the temple. The room was clean and the staff very efficient. The lobby area had a welcoming area that had free soft drinks and teas and coffee as well as small snacks in the afternoon. We had to delay my arrival a day due to a delay that set us back a day and whilst this was not a problem to sort with the hotel I did still have to pay the full day. Technically this was the rule but sometimes given the trouble we had getting there a little flexibility would have gone a long way.

The hotel is conveniently located about halfway between Nagano Station and Zenko-ji Temple. While the hotel itself is a bit dated, the breakfast was a definite highlight. The restaurant, situated on the 14th floor, offered an especially rich and varied selection of specialty dishes.

This was our second time staying here. The hotel is conveniently situated close to JR Line, restaurant and shops. Check-in was quick, and the staff were polite and helpful. I really appreciate how consistent the service has been on both visits. Overall, this hotel remains my go-to in the area because of its convenience, cleanliness, and reliable quality. I’ll definitely stay here again on my next trip in Nagano.

We had a wonderful stay at Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa. The hotel has a perfect balance of comfort, relaxation, and authentic local charm. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive from the moment we arrived, making check-in smooth and stress-free. Our room was spacious, clean, and offered beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Beds were comfortable, and the amenities were thoughtfully provided. One of the highlights was the onsen (hot spring)—a truly relaxing experience after a day of exploring Nagano. The spa area was clean, well-maintained, and never felt crowded. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel restaurant exceeded our expectations, with a great mix of Japanese and international options. The variety and quality of food made every meal enjoyable. The location is also excellent for sightseeing. Being close to Matsushiro Castle and other historic spots gave us a deeper appreciation of the area, while still being a short drive from Nagano city center. Overall, this resort is perfect for both families and couples who want to enjoy comfort, good food, and a true Japanese hot spring experience. We left feeling refreshed and would happily return again!

The hostel is very clean, and they offer free drinks downstairs after 10 PM. It's super close to Nagano Station, and I love the little alleyway leading to the station – it's like a small shopping street, but really nice!

The Japanese-style mattress is hard to say. It feels like a thick sponge. It can't sleep when it's overturned. It hurts in the morning (maybe it varies from person to person?). Hotel environment is very good, service is very good, very close to Nagano Station.

The room is ok, the service is ok, and the health is ok. There are two small problems. First, breakfast is too simple, not even eggs, milk, pickles, etc. Second, many switches in the room are broken and maintenance should be strengthened.

A well managed hotel. It is located just 8 min walk from Nagano Station and 3min walk from Alpico customer service office that sells bus tickets to various attractions. Efficient check in/ out process. Staff ranging from front desk to drivers were professional and polite. Though the room was relatively smaller than other Toyoko inns, it was clean and well equipped. Good range and supply of amenities. Breakfast quality and food range were nice. Complimentary DIY luggage locker was convenient.

Hotel is about a 5-10 min walk from Nagano Station. Very convenient. Check in was through a machine with help from the friendly staff. Check out was really quick. The hotel is conveniently located directly across from the quieter exit of Nagano Station, not the Zenkoji exit. The bus to Hakuba departs from there, while the bus to Togakushi is on the other side. This hotel offers hostel prices with the quality of an economy hotel 👍🏽. The room was very clean, and the surrounding environment was quiet, making it very comfortable for a solo traveler to sleep. After exploring Nagano during the day, you can also enjoy the hotel's small hot spring. Although the onsen is small, the description says it uses natural hot spring water transported all the way from Izu!

Nagano|13.87km from city center
I used hot springs late at night, but I responded politely at midnight! Since I live in the city, it was the first time for the Yakimochi family to see nebula like the Milky Way with the naked eye, and I was impressed with all my friends who stayed there ...! (The photos taken with an amateur smartphone camera are so much more reflective of nebula ... !!) I saw a signboard of the mountains on the way to the Yakimochiya, so I thought it was a land with the legend of the mountains. However, there was a legendary book of the land and the mountain in the room, and I felt the attitude of cherishing the legend and culture of the region, and I was very impressed by myself who liked legends. When Abu got into the car on my way home and I was in a big panic, I was really grateful that the nice staff found Abu with great insight and drove me out with an electric racket. It was. It was really helpful. I don't usually do much kuchikomi, but I wrote it because it was a very nice inn. I want to go play again. Recommended for those who want to spend a relaxing time in the quiet mountains and see the starry sky that appears in the picture book! Thank you very much!

The room was very nice - sufficiently large and with all necessary amenities (even a small fridge). The room was clean and in good condition. The staff was very kind and stored my luggage for free, as I arrived early in the morning. The hotel is conveniently located, yet in a rather quiet place. It's a walking distance from both Nagano station and Zenkoji temple (approximately 20-25 minutes), however, do note that the nearest bus stop is about 900 meters away, so if you got a lot of luggage and do not intend to get a taxi, that may be a bit far. They also have coin operated washing machines and dryers, in case you need them. Overall, a great option for most travelers, especially in terms of value for money.

Matsuya Ryokan is located inside the Niomon Gate of Zenko-ji Temple. It has an excellent geographical location and is just a few steps from Zenko-ji Temple. The front of the hotel is small, but the inside is a different world, very deep and open. The room we stayed in was half Japanese and half Western. When we opened the window, we could see the statue of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and the street scene along the street. The hotel has a hot spring bath and a Japanese restaurant. The food is very delicious and full. The proprietress is kind and the waiters are polite. It is very comfortable and cozy. It is said that this traditional inn has been run by the Suzuki family for six generations. It is very historical. When traveling to Japan, you should stay in this traditional inn to experience it. Although the price is a bit expensive, it is really worth the money.

It's cheap and good for the price. You can walk from the station. The facility is old, so I feel like I'm using the water while repairing it. I was able to change the cleaning linen for the time being, but there was a fairly large spider nest on the window. This doesn't seem to be a place to check. I think it's only my room.

This place is ~5mins walk from Zenkoji temple. neighborhood is peaceful at night. Shoes to be removed outside the accommodation. Rooms are on the 2nd floor so you'll have to carry your luggage up (there's no lift). Room (with window) is huge. You'll have to head downstairs to use the shared toilet and shared onsen (no toilet inside the room). We were only allowed 30mins of onsen time for 2 pax - couples weren't allowed to use the onsen concurrently so we had to go one after another (i'm not sure if the instructions got lost in translation..). Felt very rushed so i didnt really get to enjoy the onsen experience, but overall was nice and clean. Interesting 6.30am tour around the area and within the temple itself, followed by a simple vegetarian breakfast (porridge with omakase-styled sides with miso soup) back at the accommodation. The morning tour lasted from 6.30am - 8.30am. The accommodation provided a fleece blanket to each pax to bring to Zenkoji temple to keep us warm during the morning praying ceremony. We went on 30 Dec and it was SO COLD. Overall interesting experience but accommodation price is pretty steep IMO.

Our stay at Shukubo Gokui was incredible. So much history and spirit, and although we spoke very little Japanese we were greeted warmly by the family. Every breakfast and dinner served was so thoughtfully presented and delicious. The onsite bath is very clean and almost like a private onsen. The room was warm and comfortable, and it was magical to be in the space with the winter snow piling outside. The location cannot be any better, very near the beautiful Chusha Shrine, on the path to the other shrines in Togakushi, within walking distance to the town Onsen and ski resort, and probably one of the closest lodgings to the bus stop. The original structure is from 1815 with thoughtful updates to make the space comfortable and warm. That foreigners and visitors are allowed to stay at Shokubo Gokui that has been so thoughtfully cared for by the family for years is incredibly special, an experience we will remember for a long time. I hope we can return again.

1) Location: Get off at Zhongshe and walk about 3-400 meters. You can reach it in a straight line. 2) Hotel: Decorated in the 1980s-1990s, there is no heating in the corridor, but there is heating in the room, and the temperature is suitable. There is no bathing in the hotel. The hot spring is in a large covered tub. There is no heating in the shower room and toilet. 3) Meals: You can order them at the hotel. The boss’s skills are pretty good and delicious, but not very cheap. [Five-star recommendation] Try to avoid bringing a trolley suitcase in winter. The road is too difficult to walk. It is uphill to get to the hotel. I arrived at night and fell a few times. It was too painful.

This is an extremely cosy place, but I would not dare describe it as luxurious. It is dated and simple, with the most basic amenities. However, I liked it a lot. The best part about this ryokan is its owner, an elderly man. He truly puts his heart and soul into his establishment. He even suggested to give us a ride to the station, however the weather was nice and we decided to walk instead. I'd like to highlight the breakfast: it was gorgeous, given the price. I'd even say it tasted better than a ¥3000 dinner I had at some local restaurant. The whole experience felt like visiting your grandparents, who live in a village, during the summer.

A Japanese-style hotel with extreme temperatures. Although the luggage has to be carried up and down the steep and bright wooden stairs, the old antiques in the house make life afraid of breaking up, all guests share the bathroom bathroom and hot spring ♨️. But it is so warm, the space is reasonably used upstairs and downstairs, and the 20 or so rooms are scattered. Comfortable hot spring baths, soft cloth tatami mats and the quiet environment in the store make people relax. The hotel operator is an elderly couple over 80 years old, busy upstairs and downstairs every day, ushered in, the 81-year-old gentleman not only has a hard body but also a super memory, every time the guest goes out, he picks out the guest's shoes and puts them in front of the guest, never making mistakes. Grandma is also radiant and kind, and she will not forget every word the guests have said to her, carefully and meticulously. The two elders stood outside the door in slippers and bowed and waved goodbye to us until the bus traveled. Maybe it is because of the fact that this century-old store has been passed down. I hope everyone can feel their precious warmth and cherish it when they stay.

Due to an older building, the corridor location wall has moldy appearance. The room is relatively clean, and I feel that the room is more hygienic than the corridor. The location is just in the mountains, and it feels a bit far from driving. In terms of service, as soon as you arrive, check in, there are staff to explain the hotel facilities, take you to visit, take you to the room. I have a special dinner for this order, there is a special person to hold the meal and explain, there is a room to sit, a big room, a quiet room. The room was upgraded, and although I was alone, there were two beds, so it felt like a lot. It was classy and had a great atmosphere. The amenities in the bathroom are cute and make you feel tight. As someone who doesn't watch TV, finding the Wi-Fi password was a bit of a pain. If you call the front desk, it will appear on the TV screen. The TV is stored in a place like a chest of drawers, and I don't think people who don't watch the TV will turn it on even if they find it. It is difficult to catch a taxi in the morning, so we recommend leaving with plenty of time to spare.

The location of the hotel was amazing, just a 3-minute walk from Nagano Station, and there was a 7-Eleven store next door. The hotel staff were really nice and helpful. The hotel lacked a laundry room, but there is a big and very good coin laundry about 15 minutes walking distance from the hotel. Although the hotel was okay in terms of cleanliness, it looked old and, in some areas, a little rough and outdated. The room was small, but that’s not surprising for Japan. We managed with two people and two large suitcases in the room, you just have to be a bit creative. In the end, for the price you pay for this hotel (at least what we paid), it was a steal.
