The concept is to renovate village houses into hotel rooms while providing breakfast and other amenities in another building. The rooms were nice, not great, but I still loved the concept. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at the ”Palazzo” a few hundred meters away on a semi-covered outdoor patio. Breakfast was excellent but in late September it can feel like camping out. Shivering while sipping your coffee is not quite a luxury experience. We were here on a bike tour. We have toured throughout Europe and many times in Italy. This is the very first hotel I have ever encountered which charges to store bikes in a garage: 5 euros per bike per night. We were there for 6 days. I could understand if we had e-bikes that needed to be plugged into a power source, but ours were just leaned against the wall - for 5 euros each per night. Also be aware that the pool is off limits unless you are staying in the Palazzo. And the nice outdoor patio, you can only use it if you buy drinks from the bar. Lastly the staff at the front desk were thoroughly disagreeable. It was as if they didn't understand that we were the guests and their job was to welcome and assist us, not that we asked for much more than room keys. Having said that, the restaurant staff were gracious, friendly and accommodating. Again, I loved the concept, but the execution needs some work. Would I stay here again? Nope.

The swimming pool with a wonderful view, a restaurant with customer service and care at the highest levels (good to all the boys and the owner) even if used for a dish, a fantastic breakfast with so many local products. Well-kept hotel in a very quiet area, Mrs. Sandra very kind, definitely a comfortable place close to everything. The structure also has a very convenient car park for unloading and loading luggage.

I booked a classic room, not in the main building, But the website did not explain this situation, and the other rooms in the main building are more beautiful, and it feels more advanced, it feels like a hotel. The classic room type is like a homestay, unlike the feeling of a hotel. It is a few steps away from the main building. There are two rooms in the classic room type. There is a public living room. It has to share the living room part with the guests in another room. Although the living room is basically not used... But it is not the feeling of a five-star four-star hotel at all. Although the hotel staff is courteous and the service is very good, I feel not satisfied with this room here, and I don’t attach expectations, because it seems to live in B&B. The room is clean, Breakfast to walk to the main building of the hotel opposite the place, not in the main building, but very close... Among them, the photo is to go up the stairs to enter the room after the door, and the public living room is outside the door. Beautiful and great location, near a lot of great sites to visit. A very warm and welcoming homely energy. Hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. English and Spanish were spoken by some of the staff during my visit which was just great. Breakfast was very good (and well organized) and we also ate dinner at the hotel’s restaurant and all of it was top notch and very delicious. Cleanliness gets an A+ as well. My niece and I truly enjoyed staying there and I would definitely book there again if I were back in the area. Thank you!

L'hotel è molto bello, imponente e in posizione dominante rispetto alla zona principale di Chianciano. Ha un comodissimo garage dove poter parcheggiare la propria auto, compreso nel prezzo del soggiorno, e da dove si raggiunge la hall mediante una piccola rampa, comoda per chi ha bagagli pesanti, per disabili e per famiglie con passeggino/carrozzina. La colazione è variegata, con prodotti di buona qualità e fatti giornalmente (cornetti con varie farcitire, torte fatte in casa, crostate, frutta, colazione salata, ecc.). Il personale è molto cordiale e disponibile. La struttura è silenziosa e confortevole. La spa è curata e offre diverse opportunità (piscina termale, vasca idromassaggio, doccia emozionale, sauna, bagno turco, area relax con tisane e frutta fresca, ecc.). Non abbiamo usufruito del centro estetico e della palestra, per mancanza di tempo, quindi è l'unica parte che non abbiamo visistato. La camera standard è spaziosa, ben arredata (con gusto) ed il letto è un fuori misura, composto da due letti da una piazza e mezza, uniti tra loro; il materasso è comodissimo (rigido, ma non eccessivamente) e vengono forniti due cuscini a testa, al fine di scegliere il grado di morbidezza desiderato. La stanza offre inoltre ampi spazi per riporre le proprie cose ed un frigo bar con acqua compresa nel prezzo di soggiorno. La tv è di ultima generazione, con grande schermo (credo da 48 o 55 pollici, non ho effettivamente verificato). Inoltre, la struttura è ben riscaldata e gradevole anche in inverno, oltre al piumino leggero e caldissimo, sul letto. Ottima la pulizia della camera. Unica pecca: la struttura è un pochino datata ed avrebbe bisogno di un ringiovanimento ed alcuni lavori di manutenzione sia esterna che interna. Infatti, il bagno della nostra camera oltre ad essere datato, presentava una vasca idromassaggio con bocchette non tutte funzionanti, il motorino di aspirazione non funzionante, la porta completmente corrosa dal tempo nella parte inferiore e lo scaldasalviette arruginito. Sono cose che fanno trascorrere un soggiorno in ogni caso gradevole, ma incidono sul numero di stelle di gradimento assegnate: per questo ho dato 4 e non 5 stelle. Infatti, da come si presenta all'ingresso, dalla posizione e dal prezzo delle camere, mi aspettavo un qualcosina in più. Anche il vialetto esterno necessita di essere sistemato, perchè alcune pietre della pavimentazione in porfido si sono staccate. Sicuramente, essendo una struttura molto grande, è difficile manutenerla tutta e rinnovarla nel tempo, ma già riammodernare il bagno in camera, sarebbe un salto di qualità che il cliente nota ed apprezza, portando la struttura ed il soggiorno al livello dell'eccezionalità. Se non fosse stato per questi piccoli appunti, avrei assegnato 5 stelle. In ogni caso, la qualità è alta ed è un hotel che consiglierei.

We visited Montepulciano for the wine and then looked for somewhere to stay. This place seemed to fit the bill, about 15 minutes away with lots of 4* hotels at low prices. How lucky we were. The town is the strangest place. This town has has about 50 hotels but only 10 open, the rest boarded-up, unloved or simply abandoned with ****s growing out of roofs, carparks etc. It's an industrial archaeolgists paradise and gives a foretaste of how nature reclaims civilisation. It turns out that, about 20 years ago, 2000 visitors per day flocked to the Thermal Spas for 'wellness' and health trips. Those hoards of trippers have dropped to a dribble. It is the place that time forgot. Taking pot luck, we chose the Excelsior, which looked like the most imposing hotel on the Main Drag. The hotel is faded glory. Simple rooms with high ceilings. Nice views from large windows. The bed was very firm. The bathroom was clean. Describing the rooftop pool and sun-terrace as 'fabulous' would be going way too far. A simple buffet breakfast was included. The hotel is 2-3 stars. It was plain & comfortable - and the management deserve a Gold Star for keeping it going as the town dies around them. Being about 25 miles from the Tuscany hot-spot of Sienna helps them I suppose. If it wasn't for a coach party from Devon, we'd have been just about the only people there in the last week of July. No wonder the chambermaid couldn't wait to get into our room from 0800. Grrrr. We stayed on a Friday night, about 200 metres from the open air 'Club Forti'. Eventually the music stopped at 2am. Which spoiled it a bit. Ideal for an overnight stop - ten minutes off the main A1 Autostrada. And you can tell your friends that you've seen what Harrogate could be like in 20 years if Bettys Tea Shop closes.

The hotel was changed before departure. The son thinks it is the best hotel in the whole journey. The breakfast room overlooks the Tuscan landscape, the most important is the swimming pool, and it takes up the entire pool in the morning!
