Brilliant stay, very polite and helpful staff, great South Yorkshire hospitality. We enjoyed sitting outside on the terrace enjoying a few drinks in the evening sun. The room was very spacious, the bed was very comfy. The breakfast was lovely. The hotel's location is perfect to either walk into the city centre, catch the bus or get a Taxi.

This is an unexpected find. Large clean rooms; inspired breakfast; friendly staff; Roberts radio beside bed. Altogether punching above its weight. This is the third or fourth time I have visited this hotel. It never fails to exceed all expectations with its simple honesty and decency/

A really fabulous stay, close to the peak district. Room was beautiful, they had a busy Sunday evening and while it took a little while to order, once we did, the food was very good. The service during dinner was superb. The room was really comfortable and spacious, had a fantastic night's sleep. Will definitely return.

Great stay. Welcome was efficient, and warm, and we given details regards late return to the hotel, and breakfast timings. The room we booked was spotless with everything that we needed for an overnight stay. Breakfast the following morning was excellent and we found all was cooked to perfection. The servers were friendly and organised and we waited very little for any requests.

Lovely decor, great evening meal with excellent service, nice sun terrace, easy free parking and well appointed tastefully decorated room. But what makes this place stand out is the excellent customer service from all the staff. I’ll be honest, we had a bit of an issue with a plumbing problem that started quite late at night, so it wasn’t possible to get fixed. The remedy from the establishment was more than generous. The testament of a good business is how they manage issues when things inevitably at times go wrong. Highly recommended.

We had a one night stay here to meet up with family. We ate at the hotel and found the food, service and staff all very good. There’s some negative feedback on here, but we enjoyed our stay, the room was nice and spacious (we stayed in Dexter), the shower was great, the room was clean, bed was comfy, the homemade biscuits were a lovely addition. Yes you have to pay extra £10 for the breakfast but it comes with fruit juice and hot drinks so we didn’t see that as being an issue. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks to the team for looking after us so well.

Great location, with lovely views. Lovely staff who were very helpful. Has the potential to be a brilliant hotel but there are issues that need addressing. We paid £140 room rate for the night. It was a big room with lots of space, but it is overpriced given the standard of the fixtures and fittings. Quirky is fine, but at that price, it is reasonable to expect a certain quality. On the positive side, the DAB radio and the tea/coffee/biscuits were all 1st class, but on the negative side, the shower unit was functional at best (it is a big bathroom with loads of space for a walk in shower or a bath) and the both shower heads (drencher and hose heads) had significant amounts of mould on them. We were aware that breakfast was not included and billed on top of the £140 rate for the room, and there would have been no issue with that if the room had lived up to expectations. Breakfast was ok if underwhelming, again from a price/quality perspective. It was only when we logged into the hotel WiFi that we realised the hotel was part of a pub/hotel chain (Marstons) and this became apparent when once breakfast was served. Standard mass catering produce rather than locally sourced quality items especially If you’re going to charge £10 for a cooked breakfast, and £9 for pancakes, given the speed they came out and their chewy consistency, were clearly pre-made and heated up in the microwave. With some attention to detail, this hotel could have a real wow factor, and then price/value for money would not be a factor.

Comfy and well appointed room and convenient to stroll down stairs for a decent evening meal. Restaurant and bar very busy and staff working hard. We were in no hurry so not an issue for us.
