Faena Hotel Buenos Aires

Puerto Madero Buenos Aires|1.08km from Vientos del Sur
What a Disappointment the Faena Hotel is. NOT a 5 star hotel it once was. The bed in our room was more than 10 years over due for a change. The most uncomfortable bed I’ve slept in a “5 star hotel” . The staff is rude if you are not Argentinian, typical for of a hotel that pays the staff practically nothing and a place no one tips. The bartender at the library was totally focused on taking to the ****** at the bar and totally ignored us sitting next to this loud obnoxious couple. The pool was freezing cold. Why can’t they heat the pool to take the chill off so you can enjoy the pool. The wait staff at the pool was slow to deliver the drinks or food at the pool and often confused the orders or never returned to deliver the correct order. The man at the checkin Juan Pablo is joke. He gave wrong information about the hotels offerings for the valentines dinners. I found out the evening of valentines that there was a Tango Show with dinner that included meat choices that the other restaurants were not offering. The Tango show and dinner was offered for $270 USD per person. I was offered $135 USD pp at the door or 48,000 Argentinian pesos which equals $270 pp. it had to do with the blue dollar. While I was negotiating with the man at the entrance to the Tango show I saw food coming from the Mercado restaurant through the lobby long lobby filled with people uncovered, how disgusting. We declined to eat or see the show. Do yourself a favor and stay at the holiday inn and save yourself a lot of money and aggravation and most of all disappoint in once was a fabulous hotel. They tell you that the hotel is full as well as the restaurants. That’s a lie, nothing at Faena is full except the arrogance they dish out.

725 Continental Hotel

725 Continental Hotel

Buenos Aires City Center Buenos Aires|0.55km from Vientos del Sur
725 Continental Hotel is in a central position, short walk one way to Plaza de la Republica, with Obelisco, and a short walk the other way to Plaza de Mayo.A stop for the open top bus tours is on the other side of the street. Hailing a taxi is easy on the roadside but reception ordered a taxi without charge. The hotel has no car park, but there is paid-parking nearby. This art deco building is in a street of such buildings making for a scenic cityscape, both from the street and roof top terrace, where there is a bar and small pool. Sunset drinks were enjoyed on the roof. Room and ensuite was large and everywhere was clean. Reception directed us to 2 double rooms before finding the twin we had booked, which was an unwanted inconvenience after a long journey. There was a paid mini bar but no kettle in the room. View was across to the buildings the other side of the street. Air conditioning worked well. The lifts are slow and the wait was tiresome, but fortunately we could use the stairs from our room on a lower floor. Breakfast is served on the first floor, and there is a bar and restaurant on the ground floor, which we did not use. There are tango shows and many restaurants within a short walk of the hotel. Breakfast buffet was adequate with omelettes cooked to order. Window tables have picturesque street views. Facilities give the five star rating, but 725 Continental Hotel is more comfortable than luxurious. Location and service on offer made it good value.

Ker San Telmo Hotel

Ker San Telmo Hotel

Buenos Aires|0.48km from Vientos del Sur
We had a horrible experience at this hotel. By accident my husband broke a small side table in the lobby. In the beginning we were more concerned about my husband’s fall than the broken piece of furniture. Unfortunately, the management was more concerned about the small table than my husband’s well being. They asked us to pay $900 for the broken table. Since It seemed to be a lot of money for this kind of furniture we asked for proof that it costs $900 which they did not provide. We did the research online and found a set of two exactly the same tables for $200. Based on our research we offered them $250 in cash for the table and the trouble. They refused to accept the $250 and called the police. The management locked us in the room until the police came. We tried to explain to the police that the management wanted us to pay $900 for something that is worth no more than $200 but the police took our passports and kept us hostages until we paid the $900. It was the last day of our vacation. We did not have any cash left but since they threatened us that they will not let us leave Argentina we decided to pay with a credit card. The manger agreed to accept the credit card payment under one condition that the hotel will charge our credit card with black market exchange rate and not the official one. This was illegal and we would end up paying almost double. It would be around $1,700. The police did not do anything and pressured us to either pay with cash or transfer the money from our US bank account. We didn’t have any choice and asked our friend to borrow $900 to avoid further complications, get our passports back, and leave the country. In situations like this you have no rights as a foreigner. You have nowhere to go and nobody to talk to. It was a horrible and unnecessary experience in such a beautiful country. You definitely do not want to go through something like this. It was a theft in broad daylight. We strongly recommend to avoid this hotel.

The hotel is good value for money with amazing staff especially Lucas who worked the night shift. Had an issue with a taxi and he was able to help. I was also allowed to have breakfast super early (6.30am and 4.30am) as I had plans for those days, and I have to thank the staff again for everything. Informative and always happy to help guests! The breakfast is continental style and was plentiful. The room was nice and big, with a clean bathroom. I booked taxis through the hotel, which was safer and more efficient. The hotel is located ideally for the local sights, like the obelisk, metropolitan cathedral, royal house, etc and also has a cheap supermarket round the corner from it, which accepts card payments (most shops only accept cash). I was able to do a city tour and used the Calonia Express to go to Uruguay for a day of sightseeing there. I would definitely recommend this hotel, and would definitely visit again. Thank you once again :-)

We booked a double room for a couple of nights. The hotel is just walking distance (3 minutes) from Plaza de Mayo and to the main walking street Florida. It is perfect ro explore the central city and convenient with several bars, restaurants, money exchanges and convenience stores around. The breakfast is alright with the regular bread, ham slices and some sweets. The rooms are just a bit too small, but clean and comfortable. Would be difficult to move around if 2 people opened their suitcases. The Bathroom is clean but small. The staff were friendly and organised a taxi when we asked. They did not however have an iron or laundry facilities. Overall for the price, the location is excellent and the rooms are clean which make up for the size. Would stay here again.
