Maison Talbooth

I booked the hotel and spa for one night which also included a meal in the restaurant and a facial and massage. It was the 1 year anniversary of my mother passing away so I wanted to get away and feel pampered and well looked after. From the moment I arrived in the pouring rain, I was immediately greeted by an extremely welcoming member of staff who checked me in and took me to my room. The room was immaculate, as was the bathroom. I asked for the car to take me to the restaurant and the member of staff took me to the car holding an umbrella over my head whilst doing so. Touches like this when you’ve dried your hair etc mean a lot. I arrived at the restaurant and everything from start to finish was perfect. My water and wine glasses were never empty and the food was exceptional. My nights sleep was superb. Whilst the room may have been warm, I was able to put on air con or open my windows. Breakfast was delivered to my room on time. The shower was delightful. I then had my massage and facial. Wow, wow, wow. Without doubt the best I’ve ever had. After this I enjoyed relaxing by the pool - fortunately a lovely sunny day. I had a lovely open sandwich for lunch. Every member of staff I met at the hotel, restaurant and spa were ALL EXCEPTIONAL. Thank you to them all for making my rather emotional trip feel so special. I will definitely be back

All in all a really fantastic weekend stay. We stayed in the Browning room with our two small dogs who loved their little break away too. Rooms, setting, staff, food all excellent. What makes it extra special is the extra mile all of the staff go, nothing was too much trouble. I remarked to my partner how relaxed I felt here and we are seriously considering booking our wedding here due to outstanding service. The spa is limited but this was not an issue for us as it wasn’t our main focus of the trip. Views are great and our dogs loved the short walks we took them on. It’s the small touches such as the room booklet, Elemis products and driver service are nice little additions. We will be booking again-even the doggies faces looked sad when we left!

Lovely pappardelle ragu! We called in by chance for lunch as we had dog with us and saw on the internet it was dog friendly. Was a proper old fashioned pub and there were a few tables that were dog friendly. Just a nice lunch laid back place to eat. Please try the above dish

After a long wait for our drinks (they had run out of clean glasses) I chose a sirloin steak from the menu. I made a very clear request not to include the blue cheese source. When the steak arrived accompanied by six chips and some green lettuce leaves, it was swamped in source and juices that covered the plate. The waitress took the plate away and returned within five minutes which is not long enough to cook even a rare steak. The meat was burnt on the outside and too tough to eat. I did not complain again out of respect for my guests. Clearly what they had done was to scape off the source and washed the meat under a tap before putting it back on the grill to dry it out, which they obviously did. It was tough and barely eatable, I suspect the chips were the originals because they were also cold. The steak was £32.00 and in comparisons to our meal at the crown it Southwold the previous day it was a very expensive disaster. I would never expect a reputable restaurant to recycle food particularly steak. I live in Dedham but I will not be visiting the Sun Hotel again in the foreseeable future.

Absolutely wonderful stay at this lovely hotel. Everything about it is perfect. The staff go way above and beyond to make sure that you feel special and valued. We were given a complimentary upgrade. The room was huge, luxurious, comfortable, and very clean. We dined at the nearby Tallbooth restaurant (which was excellent). The hotel staff drove us there and picked us up afterwards. The breakfast, served in our room, was generous and delicious. I honestly cannot praise Maison Tallbooth highly enough.
