Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian

West End Edinburgh|1.07km from National Galleries of Scotland: Modern Two
Our assessment of our 3 night stay at the Waldorf was mixed. The hotel was very nice and as a Diamond member we were upgraded to a castle view room. The complimentary breakfast was very good and the front desk staff were generally helpful. We did have a problem one night with the light fixture leaking water from the ceiling. This may have been due to a rainstorm one night and staff brought a bucket to catch the leaking water. The biggest problem, however, occurred after checkout. At the time of checkout I was told that the hotel printer wasn’t working so they would email me my receipt. Since all 3 nights were paid for with HH points I asked if there was a zero balance and was told yes. Later that day I received the final bill and was charged over $1,000 on my credit card for all three nights. I immediately called the hotel and was told by in house reservations staff that my reservation had been cancelled when I didn’t show up. I reminded them that we had been staying with them the last 3 nights and had no problem at checkin on the scheduled day. In fact I confirmed our arrival time several hours before checkin. So they didn’t know what the problem was but would talk to the reservations manager when they were free. In the meantime I called the Hilton diamond desk and again was told that someone had cancelled my stay with points and it had been rebooked by someone as a cash stay and they were not sure what the problem was. My points had even been put back onto my account by someone. By now I am a bit irritated. I finally receive a call back from the hotel reservation manager who tells me that the Waldorf had a computer glitch on our arrival date and that all hotel reservations had been cancelled and had to be manually reentered by hotel staff. However, Hilton hotels have no way to make reservations using points so they made them as a cash payment. Thereby the $1,000 bill. Now glitches are bound to occur sometimes. However, all of this angst could have been avoided by telling me at checkin about the problem and I could have immediately rebooked the room using points while standing at the front desk. The hotel did ultimately reverse the charges and apologize. However. this shouldn’t happen at a property like the Waldorf.

Kimpton - Charlotte Square, an IHG Hotel

New Town Edinburgh|1.11km from National Galleries of Scotland: Modern Two
The hotel is fab the staff are great and cannot do more for you , lovely touches provided by guest relations concierge & reception staff are so lovely , catering & bar staff great , the room was lovely , great shower and local produce in rooms such as the coffee etc , social hour is a nice touch and breakfast was great , i would stay here again we had a lovely stay ... however the spa lets it down This was a special birthday suprise for my other half i booked the spa for treatments for us . We were late on arrival due to rail strikes and i missed my spa appointment which is fine i expect that if you are not on time. My partner was still able to recieve his treatment however we were provided with no towels robes or slippers , no info regarding lockers . The massuise gave my partner a robe and was suprised one was not already provided for him after he had to walk around after getting changed into swimwear .The water machine in the ladies changing room did not work the only water available was from a tap in the toilet not ideal as the next water machine was in the lobby opposite the gym , especially not ideal if u have no robe or slippers or towel to go out to it . So if you are are a lady there is no drinking water available , very undignified !! I was not shown to the relaxation room and couldnt go in even if i wanted to as i had no towel or robe . My partner told me the mens changing room stank of urine from a pipe . The staff were not very helpfull or attentive and the service at the spa does not reflect the service or same level of standard as the rest of the hotel . I have had better service at a local lesuire centre and would not use this ”spa” again . My partner and I often use spas and this was by far the worst spa expeirience dissapointing as it was his birthday. I could maybe understand if it was busy but it wasnt .

Hapimag Resort Edinburgh

West End Edinburgh|0.42km from National Galleries of Scotland: Modern Two
Hapimag was my hotel choice for a 2 night stay with my family. The hotel is a 15-20 minute walk to Princes Street and is therefore conveniently located - quiet at night but not too far out of the city centre. The three of us booked a townhouse bedroom featuring a king size bed and a sofa bed. The room was majestic - easily one of the biggest ones I’ve ever stayed in. In fact, it was pretty much a 2 bedroom flat with 2 independent bathrooms. The decor was traditional, with high ceilings and thick draping curtains. The room could easily become a suitable accommodation for a family staying for an even longer period of time, as it featured a microwave, good-sized fridge and other amenities such as a corkscrew. With such a great hard product, the soft product let the whole experience down occasionally with minor faults. For example - the sofa bed was not made up when we came in and after contacting reception we were told we could make it ourselves and bedding was found in the cupboard. After enquiring why that wasn’t already made for us, we were told they don’t usually make it in case there isn’t a third person in the party. I did however email them in advance specifying there would be 3 of us. Tea and UHT milk was not replenished after the first night when housekeeping came to tidy up the room. What I found most annoying was that they advertised having a nespresso coffee machine in the room, yet they didn’t provide any capsules! You had to buy them at their own shop downstairs for £4.50 a sleeve of 10. I only needed a couple for the 2 mornings I woke up there… why putting a nice amenity and not let me use it ? Bathroom amenities were also lacking as they only provide a generic wall-installed 3in1 hair and body wash. If I could give the room a 6* review I would, but a few minor details spoiled what would’ve otherwise been an outstanding stay. Nevertheless, I would recommend Hapimag as a great hotel where to stay for a visit in Edinburgh.

Because it is a traditional old house, it has a special experience. The stairs and floors are all wooden, and the mattress is very loose and not the most comfortable. The bathroom is also more traditional, the shower room is small, and the water is hot and cold. There is a mobile air conditioner in summer, which is considerate. The environment of the hotel is very good, quiet, there are many restaurants and shops, bus station, and travel is very convenient within 10 minutes' walk. There are also mature attractions nearby, which can be reached on foot. The overall is still a good hotel, but it is a bit old, and the old house is also a good thing.

Three friends visiting for the festival - our basement apartment was perfectly and centrally located near haymarket, but not too noisy. Huge and really well equipped and with 2 bedrooms, each with a sofa bed and also 2 bathrooms. All that you need, including iron, 2 hair dryers, a few toiletries and tea coffee milk etc to get you started or tide you over for a couple of nights. Plus lovely big kitchen dining living area. Highly recommend and was great value for the standard of finish and the fact it was the busiest weekend of the year! Would recommend and will return.

The hotel location is very good, very close to Edinburgh Castle and Princes Street, it is a little far away from Royal Mile Street, but can be reached on foot, the town is very suitable for walking. The hotel implements unmanned management, and you can open the door and the room door yourself according to the password you check in. We are a family of 5 staying with children and living suites. The rooms are large and clean and well-equipped. You can cook your own meals. Tableware and pots are fully equipped (but I do n’t see a microwave). We are accustomed to the British diet. The house even provides equipment such as vacuum cleaners and washing machines, which is in line with our home habits. The price is slightly higher, but for the case of five of us, it is still a lot more cost-effective than booking two single rooms, especially it is really good to be able to cook by ourselves. In particular, we need to remind everyone that the hotel will send you an email 7 days and 1 day before the check-in, which will contain the room number and password for the check-in. If you booked on Ctrip, because they may have booked through other channels, the reserved mailbox is not ours, we cannot receive the mail, we must contact Ctrip customer service one day in advance, get this information, and then Can stay. Because the apartment is unmanned, it will be inconvenient to communicate if there is a temporary problem.

Hotel is close enough to Edinburgh's main attractions, you could even get there walking 20-30 minutes from the hotel. Hotel has old facilities and the room has a smell. Also, the toilet wasn't working properly and I had to flush several times to make it work.

This is a very interesting hotel in a converted church, the staff are very nice, friendly and attentive. Because it is a historical building, there is no way to remodel it. The rooms are still relatively large. There are collective kitchens, movie rooms, and few single rooms, so it is more convenient to wash in the public bathroom. It's still fun to feel the unique atmosphere.
