Impressive entrance with a short walk to anything you might want/need in Hanoi. Check-in was a breeze when we arrived mid-afternoon. The lobby on Level 1 and restaurant on level 2 are opulent and well-served with competent and English fluent staff. The room I had was well presented, very clean and well-serviced. Great pillows!! Small, but functional bathroom with a great two-way shower. Money can be exchanged at reception at around market rate. The breakfast on level 2 has something for everyone. Vietnamese, western and excellent pastries. Fresh fruit and a great noodle bar. The wait staff and chefs are expert and can create pretty much anything on request. The room service menu is spartan but reasonably priced and well presented and delivered hot. Pasta, pizza, burgers and (of course) Pho. For those not familiar with Vietnamese coffee, fasten your seatbelt before trying. This beverage will wake the deepest sleeper in seconds. Concierge services are effective and non-intrusive. There is a mini-supermarket about 100 metres from the front door where you can find that razor you forgot amongst other necessities. This hotel is brilliantly located near the lake, which is a great location for a stroll. Within a five minute walk you can find pretty much anything that you can think of. There is a roof top bar and pool on level 10 and, to be honest, this was a little disappointing. The pool works, but the surrounds are a little tired and could do with an upgrade. Not a showstopper by any means. The lifts work, the electricity is 100% available and the wifi is fast and consistent. The laundry service is fast and reasonably priced. If you want to outsource laundry, there are several services available close by for USD$1.50 per kilo. My team of 3 stayed here for 12 days and very much enjoyed the facilities and hospitality. I would stay here again any day of the week!!

Maison d'Orient Hotel

Hồ Hoàn Kiếm Area Hanoi|0.04km from Madame Hien Restaurant
A quintessential budget Hanoi hotel. First challenge is finding it being at the end of an alley obscured by foliage. Your taxi will not be able to get down the road off which the alley to the hotel is located so you'll have a short walk. For info the alley is located opposite Au Lac restaurant. Our room was Cinnamon on the 3rd floor, massive room with a double and single bed. Unquestionably in need of some smartening up, no view unfortunately, I could have reached through the window and touched the building next door. There is no lift for guests so consider this if you have mobility issues. Our stay was broken by a Halong Bay overnight cruise but Michael kept the unneeded luggage safely while we were away. Michael also arranged a transfer to Halong Bay, something I had not considered when booking, I'd assumed it would be a short grab taxi to a nearby dock however it takes around 2.5Hrs to get there. Breakfast is a simple affair, tea/coffee/juice toast, preserves, fruits and a 'how do you like your eggs' menu or Pho (noodle soup). The weather was cold while we were there, unusually so apparently, so-much-so we had to go out and buy knock-off North Face coats, without heating the breakfast area was freezing. Not an issue in the bedroom as the aircon has a heat function which we made good use of. WiFi is excellent, no issue hooking up the firestick for a late night movie stream. However the room is big so the small (by modern standards) TV on the opposite wall is about the same size as a mobile phone at arm's length. Location is superb, smack in the middle of the old quarter where, as a tourist, you want to be. Excellent budget hotel in need of some modernisation. 4 stars.

The location of the hotel is very convenient, very close to Hoanjian Lake. The little girl at the front desk is gentle and enthusiastic, and English and Chinese can communicate. Will also take the initiative to communicate with us. On the day of the return trip, I called a car to drop off the plane, which is really cheaper than a taxi. Conscience recommends this hotel.

The hotel is located in a small street, next to the busy old city. It is definitely a quiet place in the midst of prosperity. There is already a Michelin-starred beef restaurant, a French restaurant and several cafes on the same street, so finding food is very easy. The hotel staff are very enthusiastic and polite, and are always available to assist. My room is on the 7th floor facing east. I can see the sunrise from the bed every morning. The price-performance ratio is very high.

My partner and I stayed here October 2022 for 3 nights and loved it. The check in process was really easy, friendly staff and quick process. The rooms were very spacious, bed was massive and comfy, basic amenities included (hair-dryer, tea & coffee, waters provided everyday, toothbrush & toothpaste etc). The bathroom was nice, hot water and great water pressure too. The wifi was very reliable and fast. Each morning the house-keeping staff would provide two new bottles of water for us which was a nice touch. Although stated that there was breakfast included when we asked about it they said they don't offer breakfast anymore which was a bit frustrating but nevertheless the hotel was in a good location so only a short walk away from a cafe or get grab food delivered.

We had a confirmed booking for two separate hotel rooms which had been paid for months in advance. We were extremely annoyed when arriving to find out one of the rooms was not available. If you search older reviews it seems it is a business model of this hotel to routinely overbook hotel rooms. We were forced to cram into one hotel room as it was late at night and all the other hotels in the vicinity were fully booked due to a public holiday or extremely expensive. It seems hotel prices had increased so much due to the public holiday Serenity Villa Hotel decided to sell one of our rooms for a higher price to someone else. The hotel was not particularly apologetic and did not seem to understand why we made such a fuss of being forced to share a hotel room against our booking preference. They also only very reluctantly gave us a full refund for the cancelled room. We noticed there was another couple being turned away that same night despite having a confirmed booking.More

Advantages: Convenient to travel, great balcony, enthusiastic front desk, English conversation, coffee shop at the door, free maps and suggestions Disadvantages: The sound insulation is slightly poor. The room smell is very strong at first, but it gets better after it dissipates.
