JinHuangQi Homestay (Huayan Temple in Datong Ancient City)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommend! This is an incredibly stylish private hot spring siheyuan (quadrangle courtyard) guesthouse in Datong Ancient City – the Jinhuangqi Private Hot Spring Healing Guesthouse. The location is right within the ancient city, offering a quiet escape amidst the bustling area, making it very convenient for sightseeing. As soon as you step into the courtyard, you're greeted by a Chinese Zen garden, perfect for photos. The rooms are clean and elegant, with comfortable bedding. The highlight is the private hot spring, offering excellent privacy, and the water temperature is just right. After a soak, you feel completely relaxed and de-stressed. The service is also very thoughtful; the housekeeper is warm, attentive, and always ready to help. The scrubbing and massage treatments were both excellent, with professional techniques. The overall atmosphere is quiet and healing. It's definitely worth staying here when visiting Datong. I'll be back again next time, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone!

This homestay is located on the east side of the ancient city of Datong. It is a relatively new area with a much smaller building density than the old area in the west. The building is very exquisite, many angles can be filmed, I especially like the porch. When we lived, we happened to encounter a small exhibition of Tangka. I can't think of Tangka and the tonality of the homestay itself. The room is very good, there is a small hall to eat and put things, the bedding in the bedroom is moved, and it is easy to sleep two adults and two children. Cleaning is very good. At check-in, the waiter will wipe the dirt on the wheel of the suitcase. You have to change slippers or wear socks directly into the room area. Smart toilets are also a plus. The fly in the ointment is that there seems to be a nightclub next to it? There are bass piercings in at around 11 o'clock.

Let me talk about the pros. The breakfast was quite plentiful and tasty, 68 yuan per person. Our child, being 15, paid an extra 40 yuan. We booked three rooms together. The rooms were decent for a five-star hotel, and the lobby was beautiful. Now for areas for improvement. Aside from the good security guard at the entrance, the service could be better. Since it's a hot spring hotel, the hot spring itself is important, but it was rather mediocre. Of the 12 pools, some were 58 degrees Celsius, some 48 degrees, and only a few were usable and small. Also, because so many people were crammed into a few pools, they became quite dirty. All three families stayed for an hour before leaving. There were too many access control points. For a hotel in such a remote area, I don't understand why there were so many access control points and card swiping systems; it was very inconvenient. I didn't intend to give a low score because the front desk gave us a complimentary breakfast, which was a concession.

Let's start with the positives: 1. The room was spacious. 2. The staff provided excellent service. 3. The breakfast was delicious, even though the variety wasn't extensive, the quality made up for it. Now for the negatives: 1. The room facilities were far from what you'd expect from a five-star or luxury hotel. The soundproofing was incredibly poor; we could clearly hear the water running from upstairs and doors opening and closing next door. We stayed in the main building, so I'm not sure if the villa area would be any better. 2. This hotel allows pets. Unfortunately, there was a dog barking continuously at 11 PM and again at 7 AM. Despite contacting the front desk, nothing changed. I don't quite understand the hotel's positioning – they claim to be a secluded, '人间桃花源' (a tranquil haven), emphasizing peace and quiet. Yet, it turned out to be the noisiest five-star hotel I've ever stayed in. Imagine wanting to sleep in after a hot spring bath the day before – it would be incredibly frustrating. 3. The hotel's location is very remote. It's almost impossible to get a taxi from the hotel, so guests should plan their transportation carefully. In summary: I won't be returning. The experience was very disappointing. The only reason for the given score is the excellent service from the staff and the nearby hot spring experience. Of course, the hot spring isn't included in the hotel stay and requires a separate ticket purchase.
