Holiday Inn Express & Suites Jacksonville South - I-295

Jacksonville|2.55km from Black Rock Cafe
I stop at the front desk as the email says after checking in online. “Great news! Your room is ready at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Jacksonville South. And your room keys are available for expedited pickup at the front desk.” Mind you now, expedited. The hotel clerk was on her cell phone, so I had to wait until she was finished. I give her my last name and she says after a minute, I do not see a reservation for you. Are you sure this is the right hotel? She said she needed to see a confirmation number. Wow expedited is not what is happening now. I pull out my phone and I show her the confirmation in my app. No apology or anything and after another minute or so she just started to ask me to slide my card and handed me a piece of paper that I had to sign and initial in several places. I look at the paper and it shows a 2nd floor room even though my preferences clearly state high floor. This is one of the things with HI that just annoys the heck out of me and that is 90 percent of the time they don’t honor your requests or even offer you an upgrade. Being a Diamond member means nothing with them. I refused to slide the card and asked to speak to the manager. Of course, I could hear her brief the manager around the corner on the situation albeit slightly biased against me as if I was just some upset customer. Truth be told I was but not just someone, a customer that travels 75% of the time for work and just wants what the fine print says, a bit of respect for providing them with my customer appreciation in choosing them as one of my preferred hotels. The manager came out and did nothing to assuage the situation but embarked on a course that only aggravated it. Nice way to smooth over things, expedited was now in the past. In the end when I let her know how I got treated by Marriott and Hilton she just said, “Well why don’t you just go there”. Trust me I will. Suffice it to say the thin floors also made for a slightly annoying room experience in a room somewhat outdate. Best thing I can say is the room was clean, not something you see much lately since Covid. Definitely would not recommend this location nor will I ever stay here again. If not for the check-in would I recommend it? Hard to say as we will never know.

TOP: Rooms very clean and very large! No tape in the room! Attractive facilities! Great beds! Free parking! Flop: Breakfast should be qualitatively better and with less waste!!! Leitwater very, very strongly clorified and unsited! No water in the lobby! Only a tea place for breakfast and in the lobby!

Overall, I think this hotel is a solid choice, especially if staying on business. * Hotel staff - friendly and helpful * Rooms - a bit above average * Food - not much of a selection on-site, but plenty of other options near by * Club level - this is where ”staying on business” comes into play. Nice, easy and quick breakfast. That's really the only reason to visit the club, the rest of the day they don't offer much, not even bottled water. Would I stay there again? For that price....on business... yep I would!

I saw the pictures, I thought they looked nice and luxurious. Soon I pulled up in the parking lot, first thing in my mind was ”uh-oh” and I walked up to the front desk, the staffs were nice until I walked in the room, it was smelly, nasty, floor (omg) there are flies everywhere in the bathroom, towel rack was broken but the maintenance came and fixed it with some glue. I wanted to check out but the room was already paid for with no refund. I decided to buy my own comforter, sheet, pillowcase, and towels just to keep me clean and safe. Make sure to wear sandals to prevent feeling dirty, oh yeah I bought some Lysol to get rid of smell and germ. The water won't drain down in the tub after taking shower. They need to burn down the whole property, seriously!

The best and most comfortable hotel chain in the US trip is sleep inn. The bed and quilt are quite comfortable, the breakfast is really rich, the quality of the passengers is high, clean and hygienic, here is a bit biased to find a little.

The Hotel is need of a face lift. Smells old , old carpet. Trying to play off Full size beds for queen. I sell mattresses and I know the difference. Would not want to stay at that location again. Oh, 1-elevator it was very old. You should do better for that location. It’s reminded me of an Extended Stay place.

We often stay at the Hampton Inn on our drive to and from Florida. We have stayed here at this very hotel and we are also Hilton honor members. As soon as we walked in the room we saw the cracked dirty looking bathroom. We paid $165 for a standard queen which we don’t mind for cleanliness and a good nights sleep. The windows were filthy, the bathroom fan was noisy and i couldn’t wait to check out. Is it my imagination that even the bedding has turned into cheap feeling sheets and blankets? Even the breakfast has gone downhill no bananas, coffee was finished at 9 am and The lady who should have been supervising was too busy chatting at the front desk to notice. I even mentioned to the front desk lady that I was disappointed that they only served light roast and it was obvious she couldn’t care less. She responded well that’s what they sent. Didn’t even bother to say she’d bring my comment to the manager. I used to love the dark roast coffee and cleanliness here. We will not return to this hotel. We are definitely considering another chain. Oh and they used yo give you upgrades from time to time for Hilton honor members but I haven’t seen that in a long time. Big disappointment. Hoping our next stop will be better.
