Seikoro Ryokan - Established in 1831

Gion/Kiyomizu Temple Kyoto|0.41km from Hokoji Temple
Seikoro is a full-service, first class traditional ryokan. However, there is a language/cultural barrier, so I think I would've enjoyed my experience even better if I understood everything. I think I could've been pampered even more. Also, I'm not used to being pampered in the first place. I always felt out of place when people try to help me. Anyways, on this visit, I tried to go with the flow as much as possible. I had certain expectations prior to this visit due to watching Japanese television dramas based in ryokan. From the moment I stepped out from my taxi to checking out, my experience was everything like I expected. The staff was very attentive. From forming a line and greeting me when I entered and the staff salutation when I left. They really made an effort on first and last impressions. The food was delicious. The in-room multi-course kaiseki banquet for dinner and Japanese breakfast were scrumptious. However, the dinner was probably the worse part of the experience. Each dish is presented in a specific order and timing. As a solo traveler, the slow pace was frustrating; therefore, I think it's best to have a meal companion. The pacing was expected and normal. The pacing is part of the full-service experience where your room attendant brings your meal one dish at a time. This is different from lower cost ryokans where the food is either brought to you all at once or you eat in a common dining hall. The ryokan has been in business (iirc) over a hundred years and it's run by the same family. The common areas feel like a family home and you are a guest in their home. I don't remember if there is a curfew. I walked around Gion until 10:00. When I returned, the front door was unlocked and a gentleman helped me with my shoes. I took a bath at about 10:30 and I didn't see anyone walking around. In summary, I wanted to experience a traditional ryokan and I believe I received what I wanted. Thank you.

We had a perfect stay at this new boutique hotel and appreciated the care and consideration for all the well curated amenities: heated wood floors, comfortable bed, excellent pour over coffee, variety of teas, great tub/shower and bath products, complimentary access to on-site washer and dryer, humidifier, mini fridge, and of course robe and slippers. The staff spoke excellent English and were always available to offer helpful recommendations, book a taxi or show you how to use the very high-tech all-in-one washer dryer. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a small and intimate boutique experience within an easy 15-minute walk of Gion.

Two people lived in a whole Japanese-style villa ~ The room was very clean and beautiful. There were bungalows and tatami style rooms. The bathroom also had a super-class automatic bathtub. There was a comment on Expedia that the general hotel photos look better than the room, but here is the opposite. I agree too much that the actual room is much better than the photo ~, but pay attention to the checkin time to make an appointment with the store, that is, the store will send an email after placing the order. The young lady who came to pick us up checkin was very cute. It was a Chinese lady who was very good in Japanese and English. ~ It felt so good. If you missed it because there was no evaluation, it would be a pity 😆.

A suite was set, and two rooms were connected together. The room was clean, with bathtub, shower, kettle, pot, bowl, wontons, cups, and we even cooked shin ramen in the room! It is within a 20-minute walk from Huajian Road and Kiyomizu Temple. The location is good. There are two bottles of drinking water in the room, and they are not given after drinking.

The room was clean and the area was quite large. It was not as cramped as Tokyo. There was a washing machine and a microwave oven. The front desk lady was very good. It was early and let me check in early. Very close to the tram stop, Kiyomizu Temple can be reached on foot.
