Seeing many praises, I chose the Grand Theatre guest house. I stayed for three days and felt super satisfied! It is not only a resting place, but also a heavy part of my ancient city tour. The bathroom is clean, the shower room is spacious, and you will not accidentally bump your head and buttocks and elbows. The furniture in the room is carved and imitated (really?) mahogany. It is not hard to sleep on the fence. The service is also very good: Manager Jia contacted me in advance to arrange the pick-up; and asked if there is any problem with the accommodation. Driver Lei at the pick-up and drop-off station was also very polite and helpful, and offered to help me carry a heavy suitcase. I lived on the second floor and a waitress grabbed the heavy suitcase to help me carry up/down the stairs (the same person, I am sorry not to ask her name). Fantastic ancient Chinese lodging with modern amenities. You get the chance to sleep on a Luohan bed. The room is a suite! Within Pingyao walled city, it was easy to go to visit the sites. The lady owner gave me a map. Even though I speak no Chinese and they speak no English, we were able to communicate using a translator app. She recommended a restaurant when I asked. They made the utmost effort to make your stay enjoyable. The owner took me to the railway station when I left. P.S. Best to download MAPS.ME as it will work offline. Google Maps does not work in China. The taxi will drop you outside the city wall and you can ride the shuttle to the hotel. Make sure you got the Chinese address. Also same possible, install the Wechat app as it is used widely in China - you text in English they translate to Chinese and vice versa.
