Andaz Vienna am Belvedere

Vienna|1.23km from 7258 Schilling
We have always had great stays with Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor. We have stayed there many times and some were for a week or two weeks at a time. Everytime, we were upgraded to an Andaz suite, which had a simple ”kitchen” with a microwave. The Andas suite is very large and with an extra guest toilet. These upgrades have always been given without any SUA. So this past weekend, becasue of our great experience with Andaz Munich, when we decided to visit Vienna, we chose Andaz Vienna instead of PH Vienna. To be on the safe side, we used points and reserved 3 nights and asked our concierge to apply a SUA to the reservation. Well, when we opened the door and saw our room, we were disappointed to see how small and basic the ”suite” was. It was still a nice room, but half the size of the Andaz suites we were used to in Andaz Munich. The hotel had more rooms available for upgrades, becasue when we went down to the FD and inquired politely if there were any other upgrades that we could get, they offered another suite with an additional €80 per day and an ”even better” suite for an additional €120 a day. We took the first offered room and found the new room to be very similar to the Andaz suite in Andaz Munich. (Later on we found out from other globalists that they have negotiated it down to €50 a day. ) We are curious as to what kind of room we would have been ”upgraded” to as a globalist, if we did not use an SUA. The room they offered after applying an SUA was the saddest that we have gotten. I think this is prob one of the reasons that Andaz Vienna is a cat 3 hotel. Except for the free breakfast, we did not feel anything special as a globalist. We did get a late check out. Andaz Vienna is a stone throw from Vienna Hauptbahnhof vs. PH Vienna is in the center of the old town. I think if we added up the extra € per day plus the taxi fares that we spent each day, it will make sense next time to stay in PH Vienna instead. It is Cat 6, requires more points, but I am sure they will treat Globalists much better than the Andaz Vienna.

A&t Holiday Hostel

We were a large group of 165 students and spent a week in December at a&t Holiday Hostel and were very pleasantly surprised by our accommodation. The check-in was very quickly and easy despite the size of our group, the beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very spacious and clean. The hostel is located in a residential neighborhood, so it was relatively quiet. In the bathrooms (every room had one) were large mirrors mounted and alongside the shampoo/douche gel there were even cosmetic clothes, which I usually know only from hotels but not from a hostel. On breakfast buffet I can say that it was more than enough and the quality was also very good (According to local information, honey and cheese are even from domestic production). We had ordered the dinner menu when booking and these were also extraordinary good (3-gangig, part also for vegetarians). The receptionists have always given patience in questions (in particular our students), whether they had a lot to do at the moment or not. The hostel is located in a slightly southern part of Vienna, but through the near metro you could reach the city centre (Stephansdom) very quickly. All in all it was a very pleasant stay, the price-performance ratio is excellent and I can only warmly recommend the hostel.

The location in the immediate vicinity of the main train station is very advantageous for problem-free arrival and departure, for example by train from the airport for little money. There is no need for a taxi. All destinations in Vienna can be reached very well by subway or tram are available a short distance from the hotel. The breakfast is good. Absolutely sufficient. We had booked a room with a garden view, which we would not do again in retrospect. Our room had a view of a canopy and the surrounding residential buildings. The room was in On the first floor. It was quiet You have to kneel on the floor if you want to use it. Personally, I didn't think it was that great to prepare a cup of coffee or tea in between. Actually, I expect that when a hotel is classified with 4 stars on many hotel websites. Conclusion: I was satisfied with the stay, but would try something different next time-

Warning! Read all before you book a room at this hotel! We were given a used and dirty room, dishes in the sink, hairs in the bath and on the bed and a horrible smell. I immediately called ”customer service” and they kept me on the line for more than twenty minutes. I was told they would compensate us with twenty euros, I explained to them that I did not want money, I only need a clean room! They sent a cleaning lady who started cleaning quickly and carelessly, cleaned the floor with the towels, worked without gloves and without a mask. After I asked again for a new room I was told that they are not a hotel just apartments for rent and that I can't do nothing about it. Not for nothing are they cheap and not for nothing they don't offer an option to cancel a deal. Just trying to capture the customers and take their money. The hotel has no employees at all, only a really badly functional self check-in device that causes a huge queue at the entrance to the hotel. On the phone it takes a quarter of an hour to catch someone, we got there earlier before it all happened and asked to pay extra for early check-in or for luggage storage and they also did not agree to that. On top of all that, and in addition to the fact that they do not respect the rules of the covid they also dare to be rude, yell at the customers and also finally cut off the conversation for me. Eventually we had to leave the hotel because we are afraid for our health and we are not interested in compensation of twenty euros. So we also lost that money and also had to pay for another hotel! (Also booking com are not replying our messages and not refunded our money back yet) I recommend you guys to read also other reviews about them!!

The location of the hotel is OK, the problem is the self-check in. With us the code we received via the travel agency has not worked. So we had to check in via the helpdesk with some delay. In several people, this did not work on the day too. We once forgot our room card (there is only 1 piece) in the room. No one received the phone. It has affected our stay very negatively. We would never book here again in this respect. The savings compared to other hotels with reception are low, there is no cleaning up to 3 days. Damn!!!
