In 1949, the People's Republic of China was founded, and the ancient Sichuan opera art ushered in a new spring. In 1954, the government rebuilt Yuelai Tea Garden, named it Jinjiang Theater after Du Fu's "Jinjiang Spring Comes to Heaven and Earth". In 1959, Chengdu Sichuan Opera Troupe and part of the second and third troupes of Sichuan Sichuan Opera Troupe merged at Jinjiang Theater to form Chengdu Sichuan Opera Troupe. In the 1960s, in order to establish the theater brand, Chengdu Sichuan Opera Troupe concentrated the strength of the whole theater to create many classic repertoires. In the long-term exquisite performances, many Sichuan opera stars have emerged. Since the reform and opening up, the stage of Jinjiang Theater has been a gathering of famous Shengdanjingmochou, Kungaohu and Lantern. In 1997, the 8th Session of the 8th CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee decided to rebuild the historic Jinjiang Theater. In 2001, it was completed and renamed the "Sichuan Opera Art Center", becoming the first comprehensive cultural venue in China named after a type of opera and focusing on opera performances. As one of the landmark projects of Chengdu's spiritual civilization construction, the center includes Jinjiang Theater, Yuelai Tea Garden, Sichuan Opera Museum and other venues, forming an artistic and cultural pattern of "Lao She Teahouse in the north and Yuelai Tea Garden in the south".
