Design Ah! Experience the Wonder of Everyday Design
Exhibition period: From 27 June 2026
Location: Main Hall Gallery
An interactive, family-friendly Special Exhibition that explores design and its role in everyday actions such as walking, eating, and sitting. Through hands-on games, participatory installations, and immersive audiovisual environments, visitors are encouraged to look closely, try things out, and learn through play. The exhibition concept is based on Design Ah! neo, a well-known children's educational television programme produced by Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai (NHK, the Japan Broadcasting Corporation), and the exhibition is produced by NHK Educational Corporation, NHK Promotion Limited and TOKYO NODE. It sheds light on how design can improve our lives, influence our behaviours, and foster human connections. The presentation at M+ will open to the public at the Main Hall Gallery from Saturday, 27 June 2026, to Sunday, 10 January 2027.
Everyday life unfolds through interactions with many objects, from chopsticks and toothbrushes to buses, traffic lights, and much more. Each item was designed by someone who considered how it would be used and how it could improve daily routines. Design Ah! at M+ invites visitors to see and play with ordinary objects in new and unexpected ways, and to explore how they use their bodies, including their eyes, hands, and feet, to understand the world around them.
The exhibition features twenty-one stations organised around ten daily actions, some of which reference Hong Kong's visual environment and culinary traditions. Developed through playfulness, ingenuity, and observation, these encounters spark curiosity and create moments of inspiration that will make everyone say ‘Ah!'.

Lee Bul: From 1998 to Now

The exhibition is a comprehensive survey of her career to date, featuring major works from the artist's studio and collections across Asia and beyond.

The exhibition presents more than five hundred examples of furniture, architecture, graphic arts, and other design objects that have had a profound influence in Asia and across the globe over the last seventy years.
Making It Matters
The exhibition mostly draws upon the diverse works of the M+ Collections. It follows the process of making from concept and research to design and fabrication, as well as the social networks that link each step.
“M+ Sigg Collection: Inner Words”
The third exhibition of the M+ Sigg Collection provides a new and in-depth perspective on the collection and contemporary Chinese art by spotlighting key artists and trends.
Danh Vo in Situ: Akari by Noguchi
Artist Danh Vo transformed the Found Space into an intimate social environment in which visitors can slow down and spend time.
Dial-A-Poem Hong Kong
‘Dial-A-Poem Hong Kong' features newly recorded readings in the original language (Cantonese, English, and Mandarin) by thirty local poets. Visitors can listen to the poems via the telephone sculptures in the Focus Gallery.
Wael Shawky: I Am Hymns of the New Temples
Wael Shawky's video work 'I Am Hymns of the New Temples' (2023) delves into humanity's beginnings and the construction of national narratives.
Heri Dono: Fermentation of the Mind
Heri Dono's kinetic installation 'Fermentation of the Mind' (1992–1993). Drawing on the rich Javanese tradition of 'wayang kulit' (shadow puppetry), Dono uses satire to reflect on history, society, and culture.
