Out of 3 towel only 1 was clean. Other 2 have stain and even the bed. Is not a obvious stain so will still ok with it until bathing time, each time someone bathe the water pipe seem to be blocked, Doesn’t flow properly. Breakfast buffet was rather disappointing, option to choose was range but flavour not very nice. Me and my friends felt only the harsh brown & nugget is nice. Remaining soso only. Gotten more disappointed when we go back hotel room and the card sensor wasn’t working. The front counter ask someone to help us check and he said the sensor spoil need install a new wan but they didnt do it after we left but when we still in the room. Felt that the service this time wasnt as what the review said might be cos the hotel was fully booked. (Could be cos holiday) but still felt a rather disappointing trip.

Being promised that once the room is ready, the receptionist on duty will then give us a call, yet do assume that due to other urgent commitment and / or poor telecommunication coverage, it was no avail. (Disclaimer : my spouse got SMS informing that Maxis coverage will be temporarily affected at the current location, yet I never get one, although utilizing the very same provider) Just trying our luck to check in an hour early from prescribed time and viola! our room was readied accordingly. Room was adequately kept, small stains detected at the duvet, bidet sprayer malfunctioned. Not to be so fussy, we do embraced the imperfect condition accordingly. The room allocated to us in which purposely selected for sea view was nice. The hotel do situated not too far from other establishment. there is a residential area situated approximately 2km from the hotel, namely Taman Bayu Damai, in which do contained shophouses and basic necessity, if need do arise. Yet we did getting our daily doses of foods and other necessity down towards the south, in which nearer to Sungai Rengit. The foods readied at the hotel (in our case breakfast) were less then adequate in quality, but got nothing to complained about. Due to the time we have, we did embarked on sight seeing walkabout at the premises. Some of the attractions were abandoned, might be due to the ill effect of continuous MCO enforcement for the past 2 years. The beach was nice, but due to the timing of Monsoon, it will be not advisable to dwell into usual sea and beach activities too much. My two boys enjoyed their time playing with the sands, with much cautionary steps undertaken. Hopefully, as per my title of this review, time will heal this establishment, thus will be then enable them to offer their best package to prospectus guest.

Had we known this, we would have appreciated the suite, quiet beach, the minimart or the lonely pool and even the slow wifi. But we were looking for a resort, with choice of food and running amenities…we were in Desaru for 3 days with family visiting us. We checked in and the reception refused to give more than one key when the suite had occupancy for 4. She did though after talking to her manager. We requested the kind hearted lady at the cafe to please arrange for some food when she said that she couldn’t because buffet food was getting served for a teachers’ conference. Finally she agreed and the food came fast. Choice was sparing but it was fast. But they didn’t accept credit cards and we spend most of our money we changed with money changer to pay them. That was it. We got in the car immediately after lunch and checked in to another resort. Now lying on their beach chair by the ocean and writing the review. We discussed, perhaps we need to reconsider using Agoda also.

Sleeping in the bed diagonally was the solution. *) The staff are friendly, but not all of them are able to speak English confidently. Especially housekeeping staff. BAD: *) Poor sound isolation. You can hear precisely what is being said in the hallway. And can hear what is happening in the neighbouring room. Many rooms have a connecting door, making the sound isolation even worse. *) ”breakfast included”. They only serve a buffet style, consisting of rice, noodles, (overly) hard-boiled eggs, chicken sausages, plus toast with butter, jam and kaya. And a choice between sweetened coffee or sweetened tea. It is not surprising that the breakfast room was pretty much deserted every time I was there: most people prefer to skip this. *) ”every room has wifi”. True, but the internet speed is so low that it isn't usable for reading email or a newspaper. Forget about watching photos or video. Unusable. *) The number lock on the safety box in my room was not working. As a solution the staff gave me the manager's key to it, for me to keep during my entire stay. Imagine this: if I would have had access to other rooms I would have been able to open their safety boxes. The staff did not record that I had that key in my possession. UGLY: *) The electricity outlet in the bathroom was a serious safety hazard. See attached photo. I don't know what they were thinking when they made this: I don't know what plug fits this dangling connector. The lack of isolation makes this dangerous in a room with a wet floor. I guess the conclusion of this story is that you get what you pay for. I paid RM107 per night for a so-called ”Executive Deluxe” room, which is an exaggeration for a standard double room.

|0.83km from city centerWe stayed for 2 nights at the Sebana Cove Resort, it is hard to really measure the hotel and really depends what you’re looking for. The resort is fairly old (25 years old), but I would disagree that it is worn off, it just isn’t brand new and shiny. The staff couldn’t be more friendly / helpful, same can be said of the security guards. Parking is free and you can park close to your room, there are no lifts/elevators so book a ground floor room if this is likely to be an issue for you or your party. Wifi was fine for us, you get a 3-day token which is good for 2 devices, we were given 1 per person. For general surfing this was fine, I didn’t stream Netflix so can’t comment. I’m not on holiday to be glued to a device. The location is a long way from the main road / town, you really need your own transport to stay here, I tried (unsuccessfully) to get a Grab taxi to take us into town, have a willing and sober driver in your party! The Marina area and hotel grounds are very well kept, the swimming pool could do with some love, but on the whole everything is nice enough (keep in mind the room rate you’re paying). If you want the Westin in Desaru, stay there and pay the premium. For us, the biggest negative was the food, breakfast is charged at 35MYR per person, the offering is small and its first time we’ve ever had breakfast in Asia without fresh fruit. Don’t expect an egg station or any artisan bread / coffee etc etc. It is a simple offering… Lunch and dinner is a similar basic affair, around 7-8 local dishes ranging from 20-30MYR each, note that dinner stopped serving at 8pm, last orders at 7pm. Offsite there are restaurants but they involve driving, obviously you have Super Lobster and Jades Garden Corner for a wide selection of seafood within a 20 minute drive. To add, you cannot get Grabfood to deliver to the hotel….food options are limited. The menu does not reflect the photos you see in on the hotel website, if only they did! From the hotel you get a beautiful sunset across the Marina, sadly you won’t be enjoying sundowners with this view, beer (Tiger/Carlsberg) was the only alcohol available.

Coffee at constant grind cafe is also good. Direct access to the waterpark was very convenient for us and the kids. One good situation that I experienced was there was a very heavy downpour during one of the evening and my car was parked at the lower ground and water level was rising. The hotel guest services manager attempted to reach me via call and whatsapp to ensure they pass me the message to shift my car to upper ground. I would compliment him.
