Tonight, I made a last-minute check-in at the 'Cuihu Hotel', designed by I.M. Pei. It was unplanned, but a delightful surprise.

In my opinion, a hotel isn't a museum; its 'sense of history' should be elegant, not heavy, and its 'vintage feel' should be classic, not dated. Before arriving, I was very worried this 69-year-old hotel would feel stuffy and decayed. To my surprise, Cuihu Hotel strikes the perfect balance and shows great wisdom. For example, the public area ceilings are adorned with 24K gold leaf, and the murals feature maple wood relief carvings with gold accents – aesthetics that are certainly a product of their time [tears of joy emoji]. However, they've now added many art pieces to temper this 'bling' and enhance the elegance and scholarly vibe. Even the subtle classical jazz music and the light, delicate fragrance filling the air inject a fresh, youthful spirit into the overall ambiance. Yet, the common issues of older hotels persist: outdated facilities, bathtub design, and those unsightly large pillars… This leaves me feeling conflicted, both loving and hating it, and hesitant about whether I'd stay here again (especially with kids).

What truly stood out was the check-in experience: the front desk gifted us fresh roses, a succulent potted plant, and a postcard as souvenirs. In the room, there was a handwritten card, red-billed gull biscuits, Yunnan small-bean coffee powder with a Moka pot. They even pre-arranged a bedtime dessert and a crib bumper. For welcome fruits, the housekeeping auntie knocked on our door with a basket, letting us choose our own! 😄 These interactions significantly elevated the stay, even adding a wonderful touch to my overall impression of this Yunnan trip.

In summary, it has history but struggles with modernity; thankfully, the details, service, and quality are all excellent 👍.

P.S. The room upgrade was successful, and my 'begging' for it went very smoothly.

My main purpose for visiting Kunming this time was to escape the summer heat, relax, and explore the local food scene, so I chose a hotel right next to Kunming Old Street.

It's an established five-star hotel, showing its age a bit, but that also gives it a reassuring sense of reliability. The rooms are standard, nothing fancy, but the blue skies and white clouds outside the window were beautiful every day. The complimentary welcome fruits and snacks were plentiful and even included lollipops, which made me feel like the hotel puts a special emphasis on families with children. There's a kids' play area on the floor, and the buffet restaurant even has a dedicated children's dining section.

The breakfast was the biggest highlight – rich, delicious, and featuring many Yunnan specialty dishes. Just be sure to avoid peak times.

The hotel's location is unbeatable. Nanping Walking Street, Nanqiang Street, and Jinma Biji Archway are all within walking distance, and ride-sharing services are readily available, with pickups almost instantaneous.

For this trip to Kunming, our family of five specifically looked for a hotel with convenient transportation and close proximity to the pedestrian street. After browsing hotels and guesthouses directly within the pedestrian street area, we found them either too expensive or with poor hygiene, so we eventually settled on Haitain Hotel. It offered excellent value for money and was very clean. We booked three king-sized rooms and stayed for three nights. The hotel is only two metro stops from Kunming High-Speed Railway Station, and it's right across the street from the metro exit. Jinma Biji Archway and the Old Street are also within easy walking distance. From our room windows, we could even enjoy views of the Kunming city streets. The only slight drawback was that rooms facing the main street could be noisy at night due to car horns. However, the hotel thoughtfully provided earplugs. Overall, it's a great choice!

Overall, the hotel is great. Firstly, the location is near West Lake and Intime in77; it took me and my child only about ten minutes to walk there. Parking at the hotel is convenient, and the room is very tidy. You can see West Lake from the room. Breakfast is decent, and the staff are very service-minded. Lulu at the restaurant, for instance, asked what I wanted to drink as soon as I entered, prepared it, and brought it to my table. She also promptly cleared unnecessary dishes during the meal.

First off, the conclusion: an incredibly satisfying and great value experience! I slept wonderfully and was truly impressed!

**Environment:** Just like the pictures, the room was very spacious and beautifully decorated. It was my first time staying in such a European-style room, and sleeping alone in the king-size bed was pure bliss... You could also choose your pillows, and there seemed to be a complimentary shoe-shine service.

**Facilities:** A little old but very complete. The bathtub even had a TV! There's a gym and a swimming pool.

**Hygiene:** Excellent and very clean.

**Service:** Both the front desk and concierge were fantastic. Storing my luggage was very convenient.

**Transportation:** It's really close to Chengzhan Station on Line 1, right outside the exit. It's convenient for getting anywhere! It's on the same line as West Lake, so no transfers needed. Hangzhou Station is right next to the hotel, and getting to the airport only requires one transfer, taking about an hour. Extremely convenient! If I take the high-speed train again, I'll definitely choose this hotel!

The location is nearby the big mall Wan Xiang Hui for those who love shopping. Just outside the hotel is a bus stop so you can take bus rides to various places. We are given a plate of fresh fruits and yogurt every day. Even during check out, they gifted us a bag consisting of two packs of fruits, and two bottled water. The hotel also freely gave extra bottled water at your request! Such generosity is impressive. 

What truly warms the heart is the very friendly and helpful staff, both at the reception and those in charge of our room cleanliness each day. They were willing to go the extra mile to assist us and accommodate our requests! Especially commendable are Ms Du Nian Xiang (lobby recep) and Ms Zhao (chambermaid for level 8). Thank you for your gentleness and warm smiles each day!
