InterContinental Hotels - Edinburgh the George, an IHG Hotel

New Town Edinburgh|0.28km from George St
This was our second time at this hotel and we stayed for almost a week. You can't beat the location on George Street, right downtown, close to shops and restaurants. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms and bathrooms are very nice. The king bed had a good mattress and pillows. There is a safe. They seem to have made upgrades since our last pre-covid stay, including air-conditioning in (all?) rooms. As you would expect in a big city, the rooms are quite small and the hotel is not exactly quiet; also depending on where your room faces. We were right by the elevator, which I generally don't like. I wonder if it's because we booked through our credit card and not direct. It seems there is sometimes a ”penalty'. The rooms are supplied daily with water, delicious cookies and snacks. You can make individual cups of drip coffee in a filter, which is much better than instant coffee but not as good as a Nespresso, IMHO. We had breakfast included and the Printing Press is just wonderful, for breakfast, any meal and later evening cocktails and whiskey. The Burr & Co is a coffee shop, also right next door, with tables outside. Love that place. The hotel has great service. We lost a suitcase and got daily support in checking on the status and changing the address on the delivery. There seemed to be a shortage on hair conditioner and we didn't have a sign for do-not-disturb the first day and got woken at 8 AM, but that didn't spoil our enjoyment of the hotel stay. We expect to be back.

The hotel is fab the staff are great and cannot do more for you , lovely touches provided by guest relations concierge & reception staff are so lovely , catering & bar staff great , the room was lovely , great shower and local produce in rooms such as the coffee etc , social hour is a nice touch and breakfast was great , i would stay here again we had a lovely stay ... however the spa lets it down This was a special birthday suprise for my other half i booked the spa for treatments for us . We were late on arrival due to rail strikes and i missed my spa appointment which is fine i expect that if you are not on time. My partner was still able to recieve his treatment however we were provided with no towels robes or slippers , no info regarding lockers . The massuise gave my partner a robe and was suprised one was not already provided for him after he had to walk around after getting changed into swimwear .The water machine in the ladies changing room did not work the only water available was from a tap in the toilet not ideal as the next water machine was in the lobby opposite the gym , especially not ideal if u have no robe or slippers or towel to go out to it . So if you are are a lady there is no drinking water available , very undignified !! I was not shown to the relaxation room and couldnt go in even if i wanted to as i had no towel or robe . My partner told me the mens changing room stank of urine from a pipe . The staff were not very helpfull or attentive and the service at the spa does not reflect the service or same level of standard as the rest of the hotel . I have had better service at a local lesuire centre and would not use this ”spa” again . My partner and I often use spas and this was by far the worst spa expeirience dissapointing as it was his birthday. I could maybe understand if it was busy but it wasnt .

Our assessment of our 3 night stay at the Waldorf was mixed. The hotel was very nice and as a Diamond member we were upgraded to a castle view room. The complimentary breakfast was very good and the front desk staff were generally helpful. We did have a problem one night with the light fixture leaking water from the ceiling. This may have been due to a rainstorm one night and staff brought a bucket to catch the leaking water. The biggest problem, however, occurred after checkout. At the time of checkout I was told that the hotel printer wasn’t working so they would email me my receipt. Since all 3 nights were paid for with HH points I asked if there was a zero balance and was told yes. Later that day I received the final bill and was charged over $1,000 on my credit card for all three nights. I immediately called the hotel and was told by in house reservations staff that my reservation had been cancelled when I didn’t show up. I reminded them that we had been staying with them the last 3 nights and had no problem at checkin on the scheduled day. In fact I confirmed our arrival time several hours before checkin. So they didn’t know what the problem was but would talk to the reservations manager when they were free. In the meantime I called the Hilton diamond desk and again was told that someone had cancelled my stay with points and it had been rebooked by someone as a cash stay and they were not sure what the problem was. My points had even been put back onto my account by someone. By now I am a bit irritated. I finally receive a call back from the hotel reservation manager who tells me that the Waldorf had a computer glitch on our arrival date and that all hotel reservations had been cancelled and had to be manually reentered by hotel staff. However, Hilton hotels have no way to make reservations using points so they made them as a cash payment. Thereby the $1,000 bill. Now glitches are bound to occur sometimes. However, all of this angst could have been avoided by telling me at checkin about the problem and I could have immediately rebooked the room using points while standing at the front desk. The hotel did ultimately reverse the charges and apologize. However. this shouldn’t happen at a property like the Waldorf.

I booked a junior suite with garden view & patio. I got a dirty, musty and smelly small basement room next to the kitchen with a view on a wall & noisy frying exhaust (from full haggis Scottish breakfast to fish & chips all day). This isn’t a suite or an apartment. It’s overpriced accommodation (over £200/night) and a scam. I expressed my distress a couple of times. Nobody cared. Noise from the street was intense at night. I will never go back and do not recommend this place. I cannot comment on rooms on upper floors, but avoid the room Nb 1 at all costs! There is no reception, this isn’t a hotel in any way shape or form. They care for the little cafe on the ground floor and just make money from the rooms. I’d prepaid so I had to stay. On the plus side the location is very central and the sheets/towels were clean. The rest of the room and especially bathroom was filthy and unmaintained. The photos will speak for themselves. Too bad you can’t smell through the photos or hear the exhaust or street noise.

Having previously stayed with my family in No 1 The Mansion Apartments in London I had booked a stay for my son in 2020 in London at that outstanding property. This was a nonrefundable booking made directly with them. Due to border closures he was unable to travel and I was told my money was in credit. I contacted them earlier this year as he was travelling to Scotland during a university break. I couldn't have been happier with the service I received. All the money I had paid 3 years ago was sitting in credit. I was able to use these credits to book both stays in the Highland Apartments in Inverness and the Braid Apartments in Edinburgh on the dates he wanted to travel. He said both apartments were excellent. Due to such outstanding customer service I will definitely book one of their properties again when we are next in the United Kingdom and will do so directly with them due to the ease of resolving such an unseen complication.

This hotel was in a lovely location and central to most everything. It also has wonderful reviews, however our experience was somewhat different. The lift was out of service for the entire week, the toilet produced a strong sewage smell, which they did try to address but it returned immediately, the kitchen trash was not emptied all week, there were issues with the tv, electric curtains were malfunctioning, housekeeping let themselves into the room day 2 despite the do not disturb being on while we were there, shower handle was not attached and fell, bathroom was much hotter than the rest of the room consistently even when not showering. They advertise their lounge stocks food and drink- they have pastries in the morning and a coffee machine but nothing else for the day. Lastly, it's an extremely loud place. Outdoor noises from local bars transmit inside easily, but also the doors in the hall can be heard loudly slamming and the door electronics randomly and repeatedly make the noise as if it's unlocking which is disconcerting. Would not recommend for light sleepers or people needing quiet to work. Very disappointed With the stay for the cost.
Frederick House Hotel

Well placed hotel on Fredrick Street within walking distance of most landmarks but with a price to match! Rooms basic but very clean. The shower over bath was great until the temperature started changing! Generic soap dispenser by sink & bath/shower but no other complimentary guest accessories in bathroom. Hairdryer in room but no close mirror for makeup application which was rather disappointing. There was a kettle and assorted teas/coffees within the room and a fresh water dispenser on the landing. Major issues, however, were with beds & noise. Beds are standard 4’6” doubles throughout - no king sizes, we were told. We were a couple & had a room with a double & two twin beds allocated to us. All beds in our room were very firm…not an ounce of comfort in any! We ended up using the double & a single. We visited during a hot spell & as there is no air con in rooms we asked for and were given a fan. However, we did need to have the windows open too. Unfortunately there are a few bars opposite that had a collection of people outside until 3am midweek - not conductive to a restful night but aware there is/was little the hotel could do to manage the noise and may well have been a one off occurrence. Breakfast (if included) was at a restaurant opposite - plentiful & excellent. All in all would not stay again as feel could get better value for money elsewhere and probably a bigger bed!

Airlink was just a two-minute walk from Princes Street, but the road in front of the door was not particularly friendly to the wheels of the luggage. The hostel itself is great, all the staff are very friendly, and the accommodation and bathroom are very clean and tidy. Don't worry if you arrive before checkin, you can temporarily store your luggage. The location of the hostel is also great and it is very convenient to go everywhere. If you need it next time, you will definitely choose here
Destiny Scotland - Hill Street Apartments

Not had chance to review these apartments, and simply forgot. We had a few days in Edinburgh before travelling on to relations in Perthshire. Really nice stay, very well located for all the attractions Edinburgh has to offer. The apartment was spacious and clean with very comfy beds. The only small negative was the lack of parking which to be fair we knew about before arriving, we used the NCP just around the corner which was slightly discounted through the site we booked on. having said that because we arrived for a weekend break we could quite easily have parked straight outside the apartment without any restrictions , maybe a bit difficult during the week as its down a small mews. Overall though an ideal place to stay and would definitely recommend
