Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Chattanooga-Lookout Mountain

Chattanooga
We stopped here on a return trip from visiting friends in Virginia. The hotel is at the foot of Lookout Mountain so the view is mostly trees but in a pleasant, quieter location outside of downtown Chattanooga. There is a Cracker Barrel on the same road just below the hotel. We easily drove back into town for supper at Carraba's. The lobby was very inviting with a mountain lodge feel and a crackling fire in the fireplace. We had a suite with separate sitting room and bedroom on the 3rd floor. Ask for a room facing the mountain - we had a view of the dumpster from our room. (Not mad about the dumpster - every hotel needs one. Just didn't think about asking for a specific view.) The room was very clean with one exception - some hairs left behind on the wall of the shower stall. The color pattern of the tile might have camouflaged them so that housekeeping overlooked them, and it was not a deal-breaker for us but might warrant some additional training for staff. The breakfast area was busy on a Tuesday morning, so much so that coffee and food items ran out and were being replenished by possibly the only worker responsible for the buffet. He was trying his hardest to stay caught up to the many guests and I suspect this was just a staffing problem, possibly someone not showing up to work the breakfast shift. Every hotel associate we encountered or spoke to was very polite and helpful. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it.

The Smoke House Lodge
3.9/599 Reviews
Only a little, though. Overall, it was ok. Not super clean (grout, old rusty tub/shower) but in the normal realm for a $80 - $100 room. I couldn't get the vending machine to deliver a soda....tried three times, weird. Front desk people polite. TV in the lovely little lobby above a beautiful REAL fire (stone fireplace, super nice!) seemed to always be on, and tuned in to game shows. Ugh. The lobby could have been slightly more welcoming. The fireplace was awesome and there was decent furniture, but there's an extension...another area/room and that was really lacking any charm. How bout a giant rug on the really nice floor? And....no recycling bins anywhere that I could see (and I looked). What the hell? Anyway, we may stay here again, we may not. Walking to the restaurant, listening to the live music and the quaintness plus family-owned is a draw. Wanting the room/bathroom to feel more clean/updated is definitely a negative.
