For a 3-Sterne-Hotel really very good, delicious food, including cheesecake, salmon and mountain cheese for breakfast, varied food card from lunch to evening: including soft brass brass or similar wild swine lamb, Emperor's smarrn that still tastes eggs, friendly staff, dreamy location directly on the lake with swimming possibility after the sauna. The view of the small liege past the white stone balustrade over the lake as at the river. Very much information material, also in the room. Directly opposite a small forest road to known walkways and just a few meters to the ship installation. In the old building below a small tea kitchen with a refrigerator and also seating facilities with tables and book wall.

Before going to the Passionplay this year, I looked up photos in my ancestor's scrapbooks at home in the USA from the 1900 Passion play and brought them along to compare in 2022. They had stayed at the Wittlesbacher Hotel and eaten at the Alte Post, so I was excited that we were booked to eat there the night before the play too. I was very impressed that even though we had been delayed on the road for two hours beyond our reservation time, the staff of the Alte Post STILL had our reservation card on the table as if nothing were unusual! The food in 2022 was delicious; we both had the Sauerbraten, red cabbage and Knüdln--which were EXCELLENT served with a local dark beer and a wild berry Charlotte for dessert. I also sampled the ”yellow” after dinner liqueur from the Ettal monastery.. that was good too! I just hope my ancestors ate as well 122 years before!

This was our third visit to the Alpenhof Murnau with our two kids age 2 and 5. We were very positively surprised how well the staff managed covid precautions and I was very happy there were no compromises in terms of quality and service. Spa and pools were open as usual. I would even say service has improved since our last stay in Dec 2019. Staff are very helpful, attentive, caring, and friendly - many thanks for their hard work. Facilities are very clean and a very relaxing environment. So much nature right in front of the door. One thing I learned from our past visit is that they do not have any coffee machine or cups in the room so I brought my own coffee (being a morning coffee addict I cannot even make it to breakfast without some caffeine). You can get a coffee downstairs in the restaurant, but service is at least for us a bit too slow just for a cup of coffee. Their breakfast is very good - not the largest spread but good quality and well organized. Really like their Wiener Schnitzel at the restaurant. We stayed in an Alpenhof Panorama Room - Room 12 (bathroom a bit dated but is in a good condition). We will definitely be coming back in the future.

The hotel is situated on a hillside but in walking distance of the village of Ettal, including the big monestry. The rooms are all comfy but differ quite much in roomsize and view to hillside or valleyside. At hillside you can hear the sheeps grazing the hillside and chiming their neckbells while doing that. Breakfast was fine and can be done outside too, weather permitting. The villages of Garmisch and Mittenwald are nearby (max 30 km) which have more stunning mountainpeaks.
