With relatives north of the country, we enjoy staying at this hotel when we are due a family visit. Until recently, the hotel was part of the Westcord hotel chain but has now become an independent hotel. Based on previous experiences, we did not see much of a difference when it comes to hotel rooms, cleanliness, friendly staff and breakfast. The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Raalte on a main road with easy access to Ommen/ Hoogeveen (north), Deventer (south), Zwolle (west) and Almelo/Hengelo (east). The hotel is relatively new and looks like an old farmhouse with inner courtyard. Hotel rooms on first floor excist of hotel room and attic with room for a second double bed, perfect for families. We enjoyed our stay, a clean room, comfy beds, coffee/tea facility, all was there. Walls are somewhat on the thin side, we were treated to an evening concert and did not need an alarm to be woken up by lively toddlers in the room next to us. Breakfast was slightly hectic though, the restaurant managed but we had to wait for a table of four and staff was constantly checking and making sure there was enough supply. Breakfast was included in price and a good variety, someting on offer for everyone. Based on our recent experience, we have no hesitation in recommending Hotel Salland Inn.

After our reservation, we have only read the worst reviews about this hotel and yet we have met the challenge. The environment is beautiful when you go for rest and nature because it is in the middle of the forest. The hotel itself is a little very back in time and when check-in is asked when you come to breakfast and or dinner briefly away holiday feeling. What does not take away that breakfast and dinner was astonishingly good to our surprise. The room was quite dated, and the bathroom was fun for one person and certainly missed a shower door there, immediately understanding the extra pump outside the shower. For people with bad backs, I can advise you to take a muscle relaxer, couples who still love and enjoy each other there, this bed has also found something on... you fall between bed or because the matrace is so gentle, you glide out of the matrace. The staff are aware of all these problems, and I have experience that they do best, we have been friendly with everyone in the hotel.

I was warmly welcomed late in the evening. The check-in was very pleasant and charming. The room was very spacious, a little dark, but not disturbing. The encounter with the supposed governess in the morning also left a professional impression. The bike hire service is a must to discover more of the surrounding area. The highlight was the restaurant visit in the evening. A wonderful 4-course surprise menu from the kitchen at a high level. The service was also incredibly harmonious and i was well looked after. The homemade butter and the homemade bread were simply heavenly. In general, I can say that this hotel is a little hidden gem in the heart of the Netherlands. Generally speaking I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Location is good close to rhe station and the park and the city center. Breakfast was excellent in a nice spacious dining rooms + veranda. Staff was correct and helpful at most times. Room was OK in size. Most my comments relate to the room: 1. No air conditioning, the small cooler they provide is not effective enough. 2. No drawers and shelves to put the cloths only hanging...not practical not satisfying when staying for a week duration. 3. No basic vanity kit nor conditioner in the bathroom...really not suited for a 4 stars hotel. I had to buy this stuff. Can't understand this kind of stupid negligence (I did ask in reception for conditioner and they confirmed they don't provide it....). 4. Poor TV offer of channels....not so critical but still .... 5. Room service shuts down very early in the evening so what's the point of it?

Whilst our meeting was in Apeldoorne, our hosts suggested staying in Deventer as it was apparently a nicer town. This was true, it was a beautiful town with this hotel being a 5-10 minute walk from the train station. Externally it looked lovely, as did the reception area and staircase. The room however did seem to be stuck in the mid-80's with not the most pleasant desk furnishings and two twin mattresses stuck together. In saying that, other colleagues in our party had much more recently modernised rooms from all accounts, but this review is based on my own room. Twin beds were pushed together but separated whilst trying to sleep on them which was quite annoying. The bathroom was fine although it wasn't the cleanest - clean enough but little things like small spots of mould on the silicone and very discoloured grouting are things I notice as I spend a lot of time in hotels! They also only left me about 10 sheets of loo-paper but they did replenish this the following day. Staff were very helpful, polite and spoke perfect English. Breakfast was fine and what would be expected - the toaster actually worked quite well (for once, many dont). Overall it was a pleasant stay and maybe if I had a more modern room it would have been 4 stars.
