Sumiyoshi Festival, the last summer festival in Osaka

Have you, friends traveling to Osaka, experienced the lively atmosphere of the summer festival? The last major event of the three great summer festivals in Osaka is the Sumiyoshi Festival. For those who missed the Aizen Festival and the Tenjin Festival, don't miss the Sumiyoshi Festival. The Sumiyoshi Festival is the grand festival of all Sumiyoshi shrines⛩️, held at the Sumiyoshi Taisha in Sumiyoshi Ward, Osaka. The festival takes place from July 30th to August 1st, lasting three days. Especially on the afternoon of August 1st, the Mikoshi Togyo, where people carry a 2-ton portable shrine (Mikoshi), is the most attractive event. Starting from the Sumiyoshi Shrine in Osaka City, the procession crosses the Taiko Bridge, passes over the Yamato River, and finally arrives at the Shukuin in Sakai City. This part is the most beloved by tourists for viewing. If you happen to be traveling in Osaka, don't miss it. Sumiyoshi Taisha itself is a historic landmark. 25 years ago, on my first weekend after arriving in Osaka, I visited this place. The deities here are three great sea gods who once protected the envoys sent to Sui and Tang dynasties in China. Now they are also the guardian deities of the local people, blessing Osaka with abundant crops and favorable weather. Especially, Sumiyoshi Taisha is associated with rabbits, and in 2023 it is even more popular. The shrine sees a constant stream of visitors every year.
