Het Steen, one of the oldest castles in Europe, was looted by the Norwegians in 800 AD and was later rebuilt as a key defensive fortress of the Roman Empire. The famous painter Rubens lived here in his later years, once a prison for heavy criminals, and now it is converted into the Belgian National Maritime Museum, and is now one of Antwerp's famous sightseeing spots. Steen means "stone castle" in Dutch. The "giant statue" at the entrance of the castle (pictured below), legend says he was a specialist in breast milk and teasing drunken people.
