Lantau South Country Park

South Lantau Country Park was established in 1978, with a total area of 56.4 square kilometers, including Chi Ma Wan Peninsula, Shui Hau Peninsula, the southern slope of Dadongshan, Er'ao, Shunliu, Wanzhangbu, Linghui Mountain, Shek Pik, Shilang and Nanshan area. Famous attractions include Shunliu Fortress, Chia Bay, Stone Forest and other places. Among them, climbing the Phoenix Mountain to watch the sun is a must-see sightseeing activity for tourists. Phoenix Mountain Viewing Sunrise Phoenix Mountain is a peak in the South Lantau Country Park with a height of 934 meters. It is recommended that climbers stay at Ngong Ping Hostel for one night, set off as early as the next day, and arrive at the top of the mountain before dawn, which is a good time to watch the sunrise. The mountain road along the way is very steep. Before climbing, take sufficient rest and preparation, and bring necessary items, such as: jacket, dry food, water, flashlight, etc. During the Qing Dynasty, Lantau and other coastal islands in southern China were invaded by pirates and smugglers. At the beginning of the 18th century, the Governor of Guangdong ordered the construction of a series of forts on Lantau Island, and the troops were stationed there. The first fort was set up at the branch at the tip of the southwest of Lantau Island to defend the military stronghold of the Pearl River. The diversion fort has been abandoned for many years, and its ruins are still clearly visible despite the overgrown weeds. Chi Ma Wan Peninsula is located at the southeastern corner of East Lantau, and can be reached by hiking trails from Pui O Beach via Wang Tung Wan. There are large areas of plantation on the peninsula, and you can see colorful butterflies along the way. Biological resources Lantau is very rich in ecological resources. Even rare plant species can be found in Phoenix Mountain, the northern foothills of Dadong Mountain, and the central part of Chia Wan Peninsula, where large tracts of primary and secondary forests are preserved. For example: ginseng, Hong Kong magnolia, Shizi, etc. Among them, Shi Zi has been included in the "Map of Rare and Endangered Plants in Guangdong Province". There are many representative and precious wild animals in Hong Kong, such as the yellow deer hiding in the deep mountains and dense forests, the lively and lovely squirrels living in the trees, the white-bellied sea eagles flying in the blue sky and the blue sea, the green butterflies flying among the trees and flowers, Thin-winged dragonflies on the riverside waterside pavilion, etc.
