The stunningly beautiful colored glass dome of the century-old building on the Bund in Shanghai is now open to the public!
Another century-old building on the Bund in Shanghai has opened to the public! This time, it has transformed into a trendy contemporary art space. It's such a pleasant surprise to see new exhibitions under the gorgeous colored glass dome!
🏠The Zhongyi Building, constructed in 1924, was once known as the 'Financial Street of Chinese Capital'. It is adjacent to famous historical buildings such as the Salt Bank Building, the Siming Building, the China Reclamation Bank Building, and the Sassoon House, representing a style between neoclassicism and modernism.
On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, the Hive Contemporary Art Center has chosen this excellent century-old building in the Bund historical area to establish two new independent spaces: 'Hive Shanghai' and 'Hive·Genesis'.
"Hive Shanghai"
The space is located on the first floor of the Zhongyi Building, the original business hall of the Zhongyi Trust Company, with a construction area of nearly 1,000 square meters.
Entering the space, you are immediately drawn to the huge colored glass dome, supported by two rows of Ionic columns and decorated with plant motifs and Greek key patterns. It's so beautiful that you can't help but stop and admire it for a long time!
In addition to the architecture itself, the opening exhibition is also not to be missed. Themed 'Boats on Land', it features a group exhibition of works by representative artists of the '70s generation'.
"Hive·Genesis"
After visiting 'Hive Shanghai', don't miss the 'Hive·Genesis' independent art space, located less than a hundred meters away.
The first exhibition here showcases 'Soft Flow', the first solo exhibition of Cao Shuyi, a post-90s Chinese artist, presenting two video works and more than thirty sculptures made of ceramics, glass, 3D printing, and other mixed materials.
As a new artistic landmark in the bustling city, it's rare to see such a large and intact colored glass dome in the expensive Bund area, and to be able to enjoy two new exhibitions at the same time is highly recommended for a weekend visit!

The area comes alive
Ah, The Bund! 🌆 This iconic waterfront promenade in Shanghai is a must-visit for anyone seeking a delightful blend of history, architecture, and pure vibes. As soon as I stepped onto its cobblestone streets, I was transported back in time to the city's glamorous past. 💃The neoclassical buildings lining the Bund exude an undeniable charm, each one vying for your attention with its intricate details and grand facades. It's like walking through an open-air museum, but with a lively buzz in the air. 🏛️ I couldn't help but imagine the high society soirées that must have taken place within these walls back in the day. 🍷But the real star of the show is the breathtaking view across the Huangpu River. 🌉 The towering skyscrapers of Pudong's financial district make for a striking contrast against the historical buildings, creating a mesmerizing skyline that's best admired at night when the neon lights come alive. 💡 It's a sight that will leave you awestruck and reaching for your camera. 📸Whether you're a history buff, an architecture enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates a good atmosphere, The Bund is a must-visit destination in Shanghai. Just be prepared to be utterly charmed! 🤩
A waterfront area that is quite famous and popular in Shanghai. The most interesting thing is that you can see the skyscrapers across the river and the most unique is the Shanghai Tower which is the icon of the area. You can also take a cruise ship while traveling around the river, but you will be faced with crowds of people if you come on a weekend or holiday. The best time to visit The Bund is at night because the skyscrapers across the river will be decorated with spectacular LED lights.
