The InterContinental Shanghai, a century-old legend at the heart of the Magic City, offers refined elegance perfect for business travel

The Ruijin InterContinental Hotel in Shanghai, located in the city center, is a historic and cultural classical building in Shanghai. The hotel boasts British-style classical garden villas and spacious garden lawns in the heart of the city, and it comes highly recommended. Adjacent to the Huaihai Road shopping district and opposite the Shanghai Ruijin Hospital, it offers a tranquil retreat amidst the hustle and bustle. Each building and landscape within the hotel holds unforgettable historical memories, making it a perfect blend of traditional and modern elements, an exemplary work of art. 📕 Its predecessor was the Ruijin Guest House, consisting of several old western-style buildings, including the Celebrity Mansion, Presidential Building, VIP Building, and Xinyuan Building... As part of the InterContinental Hotels Group, InterContinental members can also accumulate stay days. I arrived at the hotel very late on Saturday afternoon. Due to some large events that day, the front desk staff told me that my reserved room type was unavailable and arranged an upgrade for me. I was taken to the exclusive king room in Building 3, the VIP Building. Upon entering the room, I found the design and decor to be noble and elegant, making for a truly enjoyable stay. Since the hotel is styled as a classical garden villa, each building is a standalone structure. The main building, where the front desk is located, is nestled in the back next to the Xinyuan Building (Chinese restaurant). After checking in, staff at the entrance will help with luggage and drive you to your accommodation floor. It took me over ten minutes to walk to Building 3, the VIP Building. Near the entrance of the VIP Building, staff will assist with registration, which is very convenient. My room was on the second floor, and opening the balcony door revealed a garden filled with blooming white flowers, a truly beautiful sight. In the evening, you can tour the hotel's lobby and corridors, where many old photographs are on display. Remember to check out the main building where you check in; it contains a cinematic record of past movies filmed on location 🎬. Breakfast is also served in the Langlu Restaurant on the first floor of the main building. During the day, I suggest getting up a bit earlier to take a walk on the garden lawn or explore the different buildings. Both day and night offer distinct experiences and views.
