Meilanfang Former Residence

Meilanfang's former residence is located at No. 87 Sinan Road, Shanghai. It is a French garden house with a four-story brick and wooden structure built in 1920. In 1933 ～, Mei Lanfang lived here in 1958, Zhaiming Meihua Bookstore. Back then, although not luxurious but quite warm in front of the small building, there are always many flowers and plants, and the front court has a green grass, which is leisurely and comfortable.

Today coincided with the second day of the New Year's Day, visiting the "Former Residence of Mei Lanfang", and couldn't help but take an unforgettable image. "Mr. Mei Lanfang, the master of Beijing Opera, is not only China, but also the world's "Master of Beijing Opera".

After the September 18th incident in 1931, Mei Lanfang, who refused to perform for the Japanese, left the Yuxuan Residence in Beiping, and the family moved to Shanghai, where he lived at No. 87 (formerly No. 121 South Masi Road). Mei Lanfang's study hung the true deeds of Qing Dynasty calligrapher Jin Dongxin and the "Meihua Poetry House", a painting and a book hanging on the wall of the study, and later people called it "Meihua Poetry House". This is a four-story Spanish garden house, the roof is Mengsha style, that is, the slope of the roof is two folds, the top is gentle, and it is steeper near the hip. The windows can be opened in the middle of the front, which feels very bright. There is a large garden in front of the building. Mei Lanfang often walks, hangs his voice, and runs the round field in the garden. The highest floor of the building is lived by Mei Lanfang's mother-in-law and daughter. Mei's couple live on the third floor, the second floor is the son's bedroom, the ground floor is the servant's residence, and there is a car room. During her residency on Sinan Road, Mei Lanfang rehearsed dramas such as "Anti-Gold Soldiers" and "Life and Death Hate". After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Mei Lanfang stopped singing and dancing, rested the stage, and kept a clear and clear vision. From now on, he closed his door to thank the guests and lived a bitter seclusion life. At the end of 1942, in this original quiet garden house, Mei Lanfang refused to celebrate the so-called "victory of the Great East Asia War", and risked his life to put three injections of typhoid vaccine, triggering a high fever, which was verified by Japanese military doctors to avoid the performance. On August 15, 1945, on the day of Japan's surrender, Master Mei immediately shaved his beard in the residence of Sinan Road for 13 years. On October 10, Mei Lanfang went to the Lanxin Theatre to perform "The Stinging Tiger" to celebrate the victory of the national war. From 1932 to 1945, the 13 years of living in Sinan Road may not be the best in Mei Lanfang's artistic career, but it is the most brilliant in his life.
