Laya Resort is a gem on Phuket Island! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and exceptional service. The resort's stunning architecture and lush surroundings create a peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle. Our room had a spectacular view of the ocean, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We loved lounging by the pool and sipping cocktails from the bar. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of delicious options to start our day. We had an unforgettable experience and highly recommend Laya Resort to anyone visiting Phuket.

Fantastic friendly welcoming staff. Very nice hotel. Breakfast buffet is excellent. Only negatives, apart from 10 minute away Boat Avenue it's far from outside restaurants and malls. This makes our excursions somewhat more expensive due to distance. There are sometimes ants in the living area though not sure where they are coming in from. The water from the taps can sometimes smell a little. Having said this we were in a Bangkok hotel before arriving at La Green but La Green is a far nicer hotel.

This is a lovely and very expensive hotel but our experience was spoiled by constant loud house music that began about lunchtime and continued till late at night. The music was at the beach area which was the main relaxing area where the bar restaurant and evening restaurants were. On Sunday afternoon we escaped to the activities area, but during the week there was noisy building work going on here. There was a lack of other areas to relax in. We complained about his matter several times to staff but no member of management contacted us over our complaints. The hotel is quite isolated and it’s not possible to go walking from the hotel.

The hotel is new, located next to a clean beach. Upon arrival, the room was upgraded. There is a construction site nearby, which we read about in advance and knew, it does not interfere with relaxing at sea in the evening. The staff is caring, but there are big misunderstandings with breakfasts. Part of the buffet, very meager for 5, but at the same time salmon with benedict was brought to order. I think it will take some time to give the processes and it will be a good hotel

We stayed at Trisara for three nights and I only have positive things to say! Our experience started as soon as we landed at Phuket Airport. As we booked directly with the hotel, we were provided with a complimentary personal concierge upon disembarkation from our aircraft. We were through the VIP immigration lane, with our bags collected by a porter and in the SUV to the hotel in less than ten minutes! Had we not benefited from this service it would have taken us nearly an hour just to clear immigration. This made an excellent start to our holiday and was a taste of things to come. Upon entering the grounds of the hotel we were immediately taken aback by the beautiful sweeping drive and the verdant green foliage and trees which hugged it. We arrived into reception where we were warmly greeted by the hotel manager. A cool welcome drink, made using flowers from the hotel property, was provided. Sensing we were tired after a long flight, and we had a baby with us, we were offered check-in at our villa. I knew at this point this hotel’s service would be exceptional. Exceptional service means being able, among other things, to read the cues of your guests. You don’t even have to ask; you just know what your guests want. One such example is when you arrive at a hotel after a long journey, we just want to get to the room and skip the verbose introduction and tour of the property. No doubt sensing this was the case after a long flight with a baby, we were taken straight to our villa, where check-in was promptly performed. Exceptional. Our villa was beautiful and well appointed. The sea view was nothing short of stunning. We had lots of space for storing all of our luggage. Amenities including a cot, steriliser, nappy bin, baby bath and other helpful items were provided for our baby. The minibar was well stocked. The bed was large and comfortable. The showers were nice and the bathtub was huge. I cannot fault the villa. It was heaven! Having a baby, we could enjoy the pool while he was sleeping inside the villa. This was an excellent amenity and something we didn’t realise we would appreciate as much as we did until this holiday! The villa was also very clean and housekeeping visited twice a day. We ate in the hotel’s Thai restaurant twice, for lunch and dinner. The food and service were exceptional on both occasions. There is a very good selection of wine, champagne and cocktails. Having recently been refurbished, the food and beverage areas were beautifully designed and comfortable. Which brings me onto breakfast, my favourite meal of the day. There was a wide selection of breakfast options, including pancakes, eggs made to order, cinnamon French toast, fruit, Asian food, and pastries. As someone who is gluten intolerant, I was very well taken care of: the hotel made me gluten free cinnamon French toast with mango, cream and fruit; and gluten free pancakes with strawberry. The gluten free bread was very nice and even my husband enjoyed eati

We stayed at Akra for one night as we had a wedding at a hotel nearby. We totally enjoyed our experience. The hotel is very new and set in a beautiful location surrounded by trees and nature. The rooms are really cute, split level with great amenities. The private pool is a nice option but we didn’t have time to use it. Overall a nice play to stay if you want to feel a bit secluded and enjoy your own private space.

We are frequent clients of Pavilions since 2016 with interruption during Covid. It is our 5th stay (2-weeks long at Ocean View Villa). We can thus compare performances between before and after the Covid periods. There are significant differences to note: Before Covid, the hotel proposed packages at pricing below what are offered now, like ”Romance Destination” including: * transfer airport-hotel round trip with fresh towels, water and fruits * Food massages * Body massages * Afternoon Tea every day * Candle light diner in room or at Plantation * 20% discount on F&B * 30% discount for spa massage Now (after Covid period) the negative aspects are: * No more breakfast at Alto (Plantation) which was nice because tuned for VIP guests * Breakfast at Firefly are with less choice and mixed with all kind of guests * Waiting time for buggy much longer than before (probably due to lack of personnel) Positive aspects are: * Very positive points for the staff; especially thanks to Matthew and Antony who their kindless and efficiency. * The application for the activities, reservation is an excellent tool making the contact with the hotel very efficiently * Also thanks to the personnel at Firefly and at lobby: always smiling and friendly! * Special appreciation for Mrs Toon who did housekeeping very very well

A family of 5 stayed here for 6 days, the hotel location is a bit remote, but the distance from the airport is still moderate. The hotel's price/performance ratio is relatively high, and the electricity fee needs to be paid at 5 baht for 1 degree. We spent 3.6 RMB on six days of electricity. The hotel is about 10 minutes drive from the nearest VILLA market and 7-11 convenience store. The hotel staff can drive you to the supermarket for free (limited to 5 pm every day). If you want someone to shop, you need to buy something faster. (10-20 minutes), you need to take a taxi back when you have a long time. If you have a Chinese driver's license, you can rent a car from the hotel because the taxi on the island is super expensive and you can't get a car. The car is 1,500 baht a day (the oil has already filled you up, you can sit for 5 people.) If you want BBQ, you can also rent a grill to the hotel (1000 baht a day). The hotel will arrange cleaning every other day to help you change the basic wash. Wait for supplies, will also help you wash the kitchen. There are 2 young ladies and 1 little brother at the front desk of the hotel. 3 people are on duty in the morning and evening, and 3 people are very friendly. I don't speak Chinese, and the English level is very good. If you have trouble communicating with other local Thai speakers, you can use English to help the front desk to help you communicate with others. Overall, the price is very high, and the living is quite satisfactory. I will consider staying here later!

Phuket Layan Hotel Guide

A first-time guide to Phuket: Things to Do, Transport & Tips

Phuket, Thailand's largest island, it’s a haven for all kinds of things to do. Patong Beach is the place to go for lively nightlife and water sports like jet skiing, while Kata Beach is a quieter spot, perfect for families and snorkeling. Karon and Kamala beaches are great for those looking to relax and enjoy the sea without the crowds.

There’s much to love about Phuket beyond its beautiful beaches. The island’s Old Town is full of colorful buildings that take you back to the days of tin barons, with markets and street food stalls. You can wander around the old town, enjoy fresh street food, or take a hike through the hills and waterfalls.😉

Getting To & Around Phuket

Though Phuket is an island, getting here is surprisingly easy. With direct flights from major cities around the world, you'll land at Phuket International Airport (HKT) in no time.

Located in the island’s northern part, it's Thailand's second busiest airport, offering frequent flights from Bangkok and direct connections to Asia, the Middle East, India, and Australia. You can also catch seasonal charter flights from Europe. The airport has two terminals: Terminal 1 for international flights and Terminal 2 for domestic and charter airlines, both linked by a convenient air-conditioned walkway.

Phuket International Airport is about 32 km (20 miles) from popular destinations like Patong and Phuket Town.

  • To get to these areas, you can take the Phuket Smart Bus (100 baht, approx. $3), which runs from the airport to the west coast beaches.
  • Alternatively, you can use a municipal airport bus (100 baht, approx. $3) to Phuket Town, or a minibus, which offers door-to-door service and is faster, though prices may vary.
  • Metered taxis (500 baht, approx. $15) and limousine taxis (more expensive) are also available directly at the airport.

For more flexibility, you can rent a motorbike (300 baht/day, approx. $9) or a car (600 baht/day, approx. $18). For island-hopping, boat rentals are available at varying prices depending on the type and duration.

Where to Stay in Phuket

Where to Stay in Phuket🌴

Patong Beach: Phuket's most famous stretch of sand! 3km of beach with jet-skis, parasailing, and beach chairs everywhere. The water's not the clearest but the vibe is unbeatable. Behind the beach, Bangla Road comes alive at night with bars and clubs. Great street food at Malin Plaza night market, and Jungceylon mall for shopping and air-con breaks. Perfect for first-timers who want action!

Kata Beach: My favorite all-rounder! Crystal clear water (amazing for snorkeling around the rocks), surfing waves from May-October, and the most gorgeous sunset views. More chilled than Patong but still plenty happening. Don't miss the viewpoint at Kata Noi - you can see all three bays! Lots of great Thai restaurants and beach bars without the crazy prices.

Nai Harn Beach: The local's secret! Stunning blue water and the island's best snorkeling spot (tons of fish around the rocky ends). Great for sailing - you can rent small catamarans right on the beach. The hills around here are gorgeous for sunset walks, and there's an amazing fresh seafood market nearby where locals eat. Way quieter than the north beaches.

Surin Beach: The fancy one! Super clear water, perfect for swimming, with million-dollar villas dotting the hills. Famous for beach clubs (check out Catch!) and high-end seafood restaurants. Great spot for stand-up paddleboarding when the sea's calm. Close to Boat Avenue for boutique shopping and cute cafes.

Top Things to Do in Phuket

  • Patong Beach You can jump into some parasailing or jet-skiing if you want that thrill, or just chill with a cold beer while you watch the sunset. If you’re feeling bold, head over to the Bangla Road area, where the nightlife comes at you like a truck—bars, clubs, you name it.
  • Phuket Old Town While the beaches might steal the show, don’t sleep on Phuket Old Town. Walking through the streets here feels like stepping into another era with its Sino-Portuguese architecture, colorful buildings, and amazing street art. Make sure to stop by the local cafes and check out the unique markets for some quirky souvenirs.
Top Things to Do in Phuket
  • Racha Yai Island If you’re all about diving or snorkeling, Racha Yai Island is your ideal place. Seriously, this place has some of the clearest water I've ever seen. The coral reefs are pretty rad, and there's a ton of marine life swimming around. Take a speedboat out, grab your gear, and let the island's beauty do the rest.
  • Phi Phi Islands Picture clear blue waters, towering limestone cliffs, and beaches straight out of a postcard. You can catch a boat from Phuket and spend the day hopping between islands—snorkeling, sunbathing, and just taking in the beauty of it all.

When Should I Go to Phuket?

Phuket has two main seasons: dry and wet. If you're looking to escape winter, the best time to visit is late December to mid-April. February and March are the driest months, with daytime highs reaching 36°C (95°F)—perfect for those who want to soak up the sun. However, this is also when prices for hotels can be at their highest.

If you prefer to avoid the crowds and don't mind a bit of unpredictability with the weather, the shoulder season from late April to early June is a good option. While the rainy season officially starts in June, you can still get plenty of sunny days during this period. From September to mid-October, the island sees the heaviest rains, with storms often making diving difficult. But with lower humidity and fewer tourists, it can still be a great time to visit if you're looking for a quieter experience.
