I had a great experience at MCB! This hostel is greatly located- a 3 minute walk from the sky bus station (which is exactly what you want coming from a flight!) and in the CBD. When I arrived I was really tired and wanted a nap straight away. My room wasn't ready as I was earlier than the check in time but the receptionist made sure to notify me as soon as the room was ready which I really appreciated. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. They offer free breakfast 07:00-11:00 I believe? I appreciated this every day. My room was clean and so were the facilities. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it!

This is an ideal location in the heart of Melbourne city and walking distance to Southern Cross Station as well as having a tram stop on the front door. The staff were really helpful and friendly too and the rooms were fairly clean. My only complaint was the out of service shower on our floor. We only had 2 stalls in the men’s bathroom and with one shower out of service for the duration of our 3 day stay it was inconvenient at times.

I have known the boss for more than two years. The boss is really nice. The check-out time is 10:00am in the morning, but the boss can accommodate a late check-out. The boss can't be at the hotel 24 hours a day, so I can also refund the deposit by remittance. Accepted All in all, the price is good, and the boss is also good

Great budget place to stay in Melbourne with a few quirks. The room was very small but clean. We shared a double bed that was quite comfortable. There was a table and one chair, a mini-fridge, kettle, and fan. The wifi was terrific. The shared bathrooms are down the hall, there were three singles that offered a bit more privacy, and then a large one with multiple stalls and showers. Though the hotel seemed pretty full, I never had to use the group bathroom. The shower was nice and hot. There was a shared kitchen on the roof, but we didn't use it. It was empty both times we went up there though. One thing to note for international travelers, the front door is locked with a keypad. When you arrive the check in, there is a phone number so you can call reception (which is located up a flight of stairs) so they can let you in. We didn't have a local SIM card to make a local call, but luckily someone came down as we were trying to figure out what to do and let us in. Once you check in they give you the code to the door so you can get in. Also note reception is not 24-hours, they emailed us with hours after we made the reservation, I think they were only present from like 9-7 or something like that. If the check in process works for you, then definitely recommended.

Very Good
GGuest UserThere are some positives to this hostel such as the fact that you have privacy curtains which is honestly the only reason I stayed this long, why more hostels don't install this simple but deal breaking detail I don't know. The rooftop is a good thing to have in summer months and it is a fairly sociable hostel. On the downside the hostel is constantly cold due to their insistence on blasting air con on full all year round even in the peak of winter. It makes for an uncomfortable experience and as guests are forbidden from touching the air con dials with signs saying to speak to reception (who will momentarily change it for perhaps 30 mins before that cold gust of air comes back on). It is good to have separate bathrooms not just one private one for the room, or a communal set of showers like others, here you have a bunch of separate shower rooms with their own door. Unfortunately they often smell foul due to the drains. I didn't experience much of the free breakfast as the window is very early and doesn't work for those who work late. All in all a fairly average experience that could be easily made better with a bit of common sense.

GGuest UserThe location is great and the staff we met on check-in were lovely. We found parking in the side street which was handy for checking in and out but be mindful of the two hour limits. We booked 4 rooms in total and I stayed two nights. Unfortunately the pub accommodation isn't soundproofed so expect deafening noise Friday and Saturday nights until after midnight. The shared bathroom facilities were let down by lack of regular cleaning, pink mould and no temperature regulation in the shower. Expect cold or hot shower... no in-between. The pillows in the rooms were more like strangled socks in a pillow case and the mattress needs a topper as the springs poke into your back. There's nowhere to hang wet towels in your room and if you get hot you'll have to open a window and put on the desk fan. For $70 a night in Gertrude Street in Prahran it's super affordable... especially during the period of the Australian Open. If you're not fussy about where you sleep or shower and are planning a late night downstairs at the pub, this is your place! Better than a Bali backpackers.
GGuest UserVery clean and hygienic, praise, will choose this homestay next time, recommend friends around you to live, really super comfortable, the environment is good, the service attitude is very good.
BBaoruoniyaThe service staff is very good. Opposite is the Queen Victoria Market. It is very convenient to buy things. The location is very good. It is very close to the park. The bar is downstairs. You can go downstairs for a drink in your leisure time.

We had a great stay in a comfortable and spacious room. Location is also great and public transport is close. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Value for money, the price is unbeatable for Australia.
GGuest UserThis is like a backpacker hotel, but there are also single rooms for singles.
Because it's cheap, you can't expect too much of it.
Although breakfast is included, its breakfast is difficult to swallow. You should prepare your own breakfast.
Don't expect cheap hotels to be good, then this backpacker hotel is not bad.
Because there are so few cheap hotels here. Overall I give 50 points.
The rooms were very basic and a bit dated, although they were clean. There were no staff working at the property. The bathrooms were shared with other guests. Overall you get what you pay for. The location was great and was very central to the MCG and Richmond. It is cheap accommodation for anyone looking in Melbourne.
GGuest User0/100 0 STARS HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED! On Sunday 27th March at 5:30pm I spoke to the Manager. I had booked and paid for three nights accomodation through Agoda. I had a booking email, Booking ID and Booking paid receipt as well as my bank statement proving I had paid and had a valid booking. She refused to accept my booking. She said I would need to pay triple the amount if I wanted to stay there. She said they didn't even advertise on agoda but when I showed her that the hotel was on agoda she denied it. It seemed like an elaborate scam to make u pay triple the price. Really bad experience. Buyers beware stay aware from this place. 0/1000 Highly not recommended.
4423awWe booked our stay via bookings.com in September 2019 for three weeks during the start/middle of October. After our booking was processed, we were asked what time we would arrive, we let the owner know we would be there around 8pm. When we arrived, no one was present. There was a number left on the wall for us to ring when we arrived, we rang the number and got no answer. We waited an hour and a half and no one turned up. Both the back and front doors where open, hence how we where able to get into the building. The front door was unable to be closed due to a busted lock. There where no locks on any of the dorm rooms and every single bed was covered in dirty linen which contained faeces and urine, the smell was horrendous. There was piles of dirty washing left around the hostel, it was clear the place had been neglected for some time. There where nitrous oxide canisters covering some of the beds and although I understand it is a hostel and things like this do happen, that combined with faeces stained linen though isn't acceptable. The sprinkler system had gone off in the past and not been replaced and live wires where hanging out of the walls. Bookings.com initially said there was nothing much they could do and the owner was refusing to refund us, when they emailed her about our complaint, she was very quick to respond saying 'we had 'no basis for a refund'. We then contacted the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal who explained we would need to message the owner and give her some time to come to an agreement with her. Unfortunately, making a case through them can take time so we contacted the bank, who agreed (because they where based in the UK) they would do a charge back to our card and our money would be returned to us. When we tried to message the owner to come to an agreement, her exact words where that the property 'has no electrical issues whatsoever, is properly looked after on a daily basis and is totally safe'. The lights didn't turn on properly, the place was nearly pitch black and we had to use our lights on our phone. There was faeces on beds and dirty linen everywhere, I wouldn't exactly call it hygienic and the sprinklers where broke. The toilets didn't have proper locks on and the kitchen was revolting. My advice, stay clear! We won the charge back claim and our money was returned to us via the bank two weeks later!
