Castel Sant'Angelo was originally a family cemetery built by Emperor Hadrian. Later in the sixth century it was rebuilt as a papal castle. It's said that in 590 AD, Pope Gregory saw an angel in the castle skies, then renamed it as Castel Sant'Angelo. Ponte Sant'Angelo is on the river Tiber, at the western side of old Rome. There are several bridges that connect to the Tiber's west bank, one relatively famous one is the Ponte Sant'Angelo that goes to Castel Sant'Angelo. Ponte Sant'Angelo had two statuettes personally sculpted by Bernini, which have been moved inside the church for preservation.
It’s a must see place!
Very beautiful to walk around here, the location on the river is very pretty. The structure is imposing and there are always some expositions inside to visit, it can get very crowded
The St. Angel Bridge across the Tiber River in front of St. Angel's Castle is the most beautiful bridge in Rome. There are twelve statues of angels on the bridge. Each Angel carries the same torture tool as Jesus.
St. Peter's Cathedral in the afterglow of sunset on St. Angel's Castle. This is only one of the many visiting halls in the castle. Contrast the figure in the lower left corner to feel the magnificence and prosperity of the lower European palace.
It's sunset at St. Angel's Castle. The sunshine is shining on the bridge of the castle. Maybe it's because of Monday that I can't get in, so I just wandered outside.
Two suggestions - "1, to rent an interpreter, will be more interesting. 2. Play with city pass, do not have to queue, save time. Some city passes are expensive and some are cheap. The market prices are different. Choose one that is cost-effective. Http://t.cn/RP3LIHa is OK, recommend it.
St. Angel's Castle ticket price has risen, 12 euros, at that time at the door a little hesitant to enter, because online people say there is nothing good inside. Think about it. Come in. Then because of the pain of money, did not rent an interpreter, little regret, some do not understand. It is only possible to know that this was the first Tomb of a king. Later, it was built into a castle by the Pope. It had military defensive function and some Pope had fled to take refuge here. Personally, I think it's still very interesting inside. The architecture is simple and simple. I don't understand it very well and I think it's very interesting.
I like the setting.
Ponte Santa Angelo, the famous stone bridge in front of the castle, was totally immersed in many Angel sculptures climbing up the Bank of the shooting site in Baroque, nestled in so many angels and reluctant sunset, Meimei took a picture; after taking a look down, she suddenly dizzied, from the sitting place to the river below, there were four or five stories high, and there was no guard to frighten the Eliao angel. bless
St Angel's Castle was originally a royal cemetery. In 590 AD, the Black Death ravaged Europe. Pope Gregory I toured here. In his trance, he saw Archangel Michelle spread his sword on the top of the castle. It was a good omen for heaven to help him. As a result, the plague soon recovered and the story was widely circulated. Thus, it was renamed Saint Angel's Castle.
