Hankou Road

The declaration hall building was built in 1918 and is a modern European-style building with neoclassical decoration style, with five-story reinforced concrete structures, the lower part of the outer wall and the wall columns have patterns.

Hankou Road is commonly known as "three roads", originally one of the four mud roads leading to the Huangpu River. At first, the road was built from the Bund to Henan Middle Road, because it is close to Jianghai Beiguan, so it was originally called "Customs Road". After 1855, it was extended west to Hubei Road. After the demolition of the second racecourse in Shanghai, the road was built westward to Tibet Middle Road, which is the starting point of Hankou Road. After 1865, Hankou was used as the road name.

Shanghai Hankou Road from the Bund east, west to People's Square, once quiet in the middle of noisy, no mountains or dew. Counting a few, she has existed for more than 150 years. Hankou Road is less than 1500 meters long, but generations of celebrities have left footprints here: from Hurd, Dewey, Russell, Einstein, Lu Xun, Hu Shi, Roushi, Yuan Lingyu, Zhang Ailing...they have stringed together the history of Shanghai's vicissitudes of a hundred years!

In the early days of Shanghai, Hankou Road was mostly foreign banks on both sides. At the beginning of the 20th century, Bank of China was founded on this road, and the earliest stock exchange building in Shanghai was also located on this road. A Hankou Road is full of changes and changes, and many people are vicissitudes.

Since the 1920s, the east section of Hankou Road, the Shandong intersection, has been the whole China News Center, and the Newspaper and the Declaration Newspaper are located here. Many old buildings have been retained so far.
