Linggu Temple is located on the southeast slope of Zijin Mountain, Xuanwu District, Nanjing City, about 1.5 kilometers east of the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. It was built in the 14th year of the Nanliang Tianjian (515). It is the "Kaishan Jingshe" built by Liang Wu Emperor in the southern dynasty to commemorate the famous monk Baozhi Zen Master. During the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanxuan personally gave his name to the "Linggu Temple" and sealed it as the "first Zen forest in the world", which is one of the three major Buddhist monasteries in the Ming Dynasty. "Jinling Fancha Zhi" listed it as Dabaoen Temple and Tianjie Temple as Dacha.
