The Square Restaurant Review

The Square restaurant at Novotel Christchurch combines pleasant decor, a superb atmosphere, great service and delicious food. Even a selection for vegetarians like us is numerous. Will not hesitate to recommend.

Our third meal here and the first for some time. Nice decor, friendly staff though not the knowledge exhibited on the previous occasions. Very average garlic bread, which was really a small loaf with some garlic (sort of) butter. The main was very good though. Both my wife and I had the grilled lamb rump with artichokes and new potatoes, with a broccoli side. Nice lamb and sauce, but broccoli nondescript. Dessert? Wow, one of the best for a while. Beautifully light flourless chocolate cake and a smooth light chocolate mousse, Creme fresh and berries. And a large portion too!! A lovely Marlborough Wither Hills Pinot Gris, a very tasty Hoprocker beer were reasonably priced. All in all, very pleasant though not outstanding, except for the desert!

The environment is good and the location is very good in the city center. The taste is average.

The location is OK, but there is nothing else to be said.

Though this place has a good business dining aura, it is still pretty decent for a casual night dinner catch up with friends. Ordered the bread, oysters, fish and the nasi Goreng. The fish was cooked perfectly just lacked a bit of seasoning. The oysters were good but can't say it was that fresh. Rest was pretty decent. Overall a good experience. The cake too was good, but wish it could have been better.
