Da Nang Hotels by Area: Which Base Fits Your Trip

Pick the area before the hotel. Beach days and sea views belong on the My Khe strip, Phuoc My adds restaurants and bars within walking distance of the sand, and downtown puts the Han River, the railway station and the airport close together. The three areas barely overlap, and price alone will not point you to the right one.

Both beach areas cost more than downtown, and Phuoc My is the priciest of the three. The trade is distance. The four beach hotels are 1.7 to 3.9 km from the Dragon Bridge, and on the other side of the river Doha is 5.1 km from My Khe Beach, with Courtyard minutes away by car. Whichever base you pick, one half of the trip is a short ride away.

Da Nang Hotels on My Khe Beach: Best for a First Beach Trip

My Khe Beach is the long sand strip east of the Han River, backed by Vo Nguyen Giap and the grid of guesthouse streets behind it. The water is a five minute walk from most of the block, the seafood restaurants along the beach road open for lunch, and the airport sits a short ride south.

• Cocorico Da Nang Beach Hotel: Four star on Tran Bach Dang, about 290 m from My Khe Beach, with a restaurant, a cafe, a snack bar, free parking, luggage storage, a currency exchange desk and a coworking space. Average rate about US$91.
• Peninsula Hotel Danang: Five star on Vo Nguyen Giap, steps from the sand, with a rooftop infinity pool, a free gym, a sauna, a paid spa, two restaurants (one halal, on the 28th floor), a bar, a kids' club and free parking with valet. Breakfast is charged per person. Average rate about US$138.

Cocorico is the cheap way onto the sand: pay US$91, skip the pool and the breakfast, and walk four minutes to the water. Peninsula suits a slower trip, where the rooftop pool, the spa and two restaurants matter more than the saving, and the halal kitchen on the 28th floor matters if that decides where you eat.

Da Nang Hotels in Phuoc My: Best for Beach and Nightlife

Phuoc My is the busiest stretch of sand on this coast, a few hundred metres north of My Khe along the same beach road. The towers along this stretch hold the rooftop pools and the sky bars, the streets behind them run from Vietnamese to Korean, and the beach is a short walk from most doors.

• Sala Danang Beach Hotel: Four star on Lam Hoanh, 200 m from My Khe Beach, with a rooftop pool, a children's pool, a gym, a sauna, a paid spa, a Japanese restaurant, a cafe, a kids' club, a nightclub and free valet parking. It is the only hotel in this guide with a free scheduled airport shuttle. Breakfast is charged. Average rate about US$220.

The higher rate buys the free airport shuttle and the larger spa at Sala, plus enough restaurants to keep a family fed without leaving the building. voco answers with the IHG name, the skybar and the lower rate, which makes it the easier pick for a couple who wants the rooftop and the bars.

Da Nang Hotels Downtown: Best for the River and Connections

Downtown means the west bank of the Han River, with the Dragon Bridge a short walk away and the airport and railway station minutes by car. It is also the area to pick when the river, the markets and an early train matter more than the sand.

Courtyard is the river stay with a pool and a gym, and the railway station is 1.95 km away, which suits a train arrival. Doha is a plain three star for the night before an early flight: the terminal is 1.4 km away, the rate is the lowest in this guide, and the room is the simplest of the six.

Da Nang Hotels by Price Range

Sorted by average rate, the six fall into three bands that cut across the areas.

Price alone will not pick the area: the cheapest bed is downtown and the second cheapest is on the beach. Inside a band the difference is what comes with the room, from the free airport shuttle at Sala to the two pools at Courtyard and the halal restaurant at Peninsula.

Da Nang Hotels: Transport, Food and Booking Tips

Five things change a stay more than the star rating does.

• The Han River bridges decide the crossing. The Dragon, the Han River and the Tran Thi Ly bridges all cross within a couple of kilometres, and which one you take sets the length of every beach-to-downtown run. The Han River Bridge still swings open late at night to let boats through, so a late return to the beach goes over the Dragon Bridge.
• Ride-hailing is the taxi rank. Grab works across the city, at the airport and along the beach strip. Set the pick-up pin at the lobby before you order, since the beach road addresses are long and the drivers work from the map, and Doha keeps a taxi booking desk in the lobby for the same job.
• An Thuong is where the beach eats. The grid of streets behind My Khe, around Tran Bach Dang and Nguyen Van Tho, holds the seafood places, the banh mi counters and the coffee shops that open early. Cocorico sits 290 m from the sand inside that grid, which puts dinner and breakfast within a short walk.
• Tet empties the city for a week. Vietnamese Lunar New Year closes family shops and small kitchens for several days, and the weeks either side are the busiest of the year for travel. The June to August school holiday is the other peak on this coast, when the beach hotels fill first.
• The airport sits inside the city. Da Nang International Airport is 1.4 km from Doha and 4.9 to 6.8 km from the beach hotels, so a late landing is a short ride from either base. The railway station is on the downtown side too, 1.66 km from Doha and 1.95 km from Courtyard.
