We were visiting DC and trying to find an interesting, local, relatively inexpensive place for dinner that we could go to with a 12 year old but that would also be enjoyed by the adults. We were in the mood for fish and chips so we googled around a little and happened on the Codmother. We immediately liked the name and thought it sounded a little funky and fun. It was such a surprising find. We were expecting a typical Irish bar like you find in the US. It was a small, hole in the wall with dark wood, a great bar, a few tables. Besides three people at the bar who left shortly after we got there, we were the only people there on a Monday night. The bartender/waiter (and maybe cook, too!) was super friendly and nice. There were only about 6 things on the menu (fish & chips, lamb burger). The fish and chips were real fish and were quite good. Nice selection of beers with NO crappy beer like Coors, Bud, etc. Very reasonably priced (about $8-9 for each meal). Some would say downright inexpensive! Great music selection. It was a really nice evening. We would definitley go back.
