Hongyadong is an eleven-storey stilt-house complex built into the cliff above the Jialing River, it's free to enter, and it only really makes sense after dark, when the whole facade turns gold and looks like something out of a fantasy film. The Ming Dynasty Gate

In the early Ming period, around the 1370s, the commander of Chongqing built a defensive wall with seventeen gates, known as the nine open and eight closed gates. Hongya Gate was one of the closed ones, kept shut except for military and water management purposes.
