I explored the nearby theatres and the vibrant Covent Garden area, where there were street performers and a buzzing atmosphere. The West End is a place where you can feel the history of theatre, with its beautiful old buildings and the excitement of having so many world-class shows to choose from.

West End Theatre Shows, Tickets, and Tips

London's West End is one of the world's two great theatre capitals alongside Broadway, drawing over 15 million theatregoers a year to a compact district in central London. This guide covers what's playing in 2026, how to book, where to sit, how to get there, and how to get more from your evening than just the show itself.

What is the West End Theatre?

The West End is not a single theatre but London's main theatre district, centered around Covent Garden, Soho, and Leicester Square. Around 40 major theatres operate in the area, many housed in Victorian and Edwardian buildings that have been staging productions for over a century.

The district is often compared to Broadway in New York. Both host world class productions with global reach, though the West End has a stronger tradition of long running classics, more historic venues, and generally lower ticket prices for equivalent seats.

West End Theatre Show Timings & Duration

West End Theatre show

Planning your time is key to enjoying a smooth theatre experience.

Typical Show Times

  • Evening performances: Usually start at 7:00 pm or 7:30 pm
  • Matinee shows: Typically 2:30 pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Saturdays
  • Sunday performances: Some shows now offer Sunday matinees, worth checking during peak season

How Long Do Shows Last?

  • Most performances run 2 to 3 hours including an intermission
  • Musicals tend to be longer (2.5 to 3 hours)
  • Plays are often shorter (1.5 to 2.5 hours)
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child runs in two parts, roughly 5 hours total across two performances

When to Arrive

Arrive at least 30 minutes before curtain to allow for ticket collection, security checks, and finding your seat. Latecomers may be held at the back of the auditorium until a suitable break in the performance, which can mean missing 15 to 20 minutes of the show.

How to Get to the West End Theatre?

West End theatre directions.

West End theatre directions.

The West End is centrally located and easy to reach from anywhere in London.

By Underground (Tube)

The London Underground is the fastest and most reliable way to reach the West End. Key stations include:

  • Leicester Square (Northern and Piccadilly lines)
  • Piccadilly Circus (Piccadilly and Bakerloo lines)
  • Covent Garden (Piccadilly line)
  • Charing Cross (Northern and Bakerloo lines)
  • Tottenham Court Road (Central, Northern, and Elizabeth lines)

Most West End theatres are a 5 to 10 minute walk from these stations. A single tube fare in central London costs £2.80 to £3.50 (around $3.50 to $4.50), payable by contactless card or Oyster card.

By Bus

London's red buses are a scenic and affordable way to travel. A single fare is £1.75 (around $2.25), and the Hopper fare allows unlimited transfers within one hour for the same price. Contactless payment or Oyster card only, no cash.

By National Rail

Nearby mainline stations include:

  • Charing Cross (southeast England)
  • Waterloo (southwest England)
  • Cannon Street (southeast England)
  • King's Cross St Pancras (north of England, Eurostar to Europe)

By Taxi or Ride Hailing

Black cabs and Uber operate widely and are useful after shows when the theatre district gets busy. Expect £10 to £25 (around $13 to $32) for a taxi within central London. Post show queues at popular theatres can be long, so consider walking a few blocks before ordering a ride.

Walking

If you're staying in central London, the West End is highly walkable and worth exploring on foot. Combining a theatre trip with dinner in Soho or a walk along the Thames adds significantly to the evening.

👍Pro Tip: When planning your visit, consider booking your flights to London early to snag the best deals and keep an eye out for promotions.

What Shows Can You Watch at the West End Theatre?

The West End offers a mix of decades old classics and modern productions. Here are the most popular currently running shows in 2026

Long-Running Classics

The Lion King

The Lion King

These productions have been staged for years or decades and remain the safest picks for first time visitors.

The Lion King. Disney's spectacular stage production at the Lyceum Theatre. Puppetry, costumes, and the opening Circle of Life number are consistently rated as some of the most memorable moments in theatre. Family friendly, suitable for ages 6 and up.

Les Misérables. Now the longest running musical in West End history, playing at the Sondheim Theatre. Set during the 1832 Paris Uprising, with a powerful score including I Dreamed a Dream and On My Own. Emotional, intense, running just over 3 hours.

The Phantom of the Opera. Andrew Lloyd Webber's gothic romance at Her Majesty's Theatre, running since 1986. The chandelier scene and haunting score make this one of the most instantly recognizable musicals in the world.

Wicked. The untold story of the witches of Oz, at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. Defying Gravity is one of the great musical theatre moments. Broad appeal, works well for musical theatre fans and Wizard of Oz lovers alike.

Mamma Mia! ABBA's greatest hits woven into a Greek island story. Feel good, energetic, and one of the easier introductions to musical theatre. Currently playing at the Novello Theatre.

Modern Hits & New Productions

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Contemporary shows that have opened in the past 5 to 10 years and become critical or commercial hits.

Hamilton. Lin Manuel Miranda's hip hop retelling of the American founding, playing at the Victoria Palace Theatre. Rap heavy and fast paced, one of the highest energy productions in the West End.

Six the Musical. The six wives of Henry VIII presented as a pop concert. Runs just 80 minutes with no intermission. Compact, catchy, and often cheaper than the classics.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Two part stage sequel to the Harry Potter novels at the Palace Theatre. Groundbreaking illusions and a story continuing from the seventh book. Around 5 hours across two performances, usually seen on the same day or across consecutive days.

Hadestown. Anaïs Mitchell's folk and jazz retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth. Moody, atmospheric, with standout vocal performances.

MJ The Musical. The Michael Jackson biographical musical, focused on the making of the 1992 Dangerous World Tour. Choreography heavy, appeals to music fans as much as theatre fans.

The Devil Wears Prada. Elton John's musical adaptation of the film, capturing the high pressure world of fashion publishing with sharp humor and bold visuals.

Performances and Star-Driven Drama

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

The Mousetrap. Agatha Christie's murder mystery has been playing continuously since 1952, making it the longest running play in the world. At St Martin's Theatre. Traditional whodunit style, no musical numbers.

Beetlejuice The Musical. The stage adaptation of Tim Burton's film, now playing at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Comedy heavy, works well for fans of the film.

Star led runs of Shakespeare, Chekhov, and contemporary drama rotate through venues like the Old Vic, Wyndham's Theatre, and the Almeida throughout the year. Check listings closer to your visit for headline actor productions.

Booking Tips at West End Theatre

 West End Theatre show

Book in Advance

For popular shows (The Lion King, Hamilton, Wicked), booking 2 to 8 weeks ahead ensures the widest seat selection. Prices don't typically drop as the date approaches for hit shows, so early booking is safer.

Weekday Performances Are Cheaper

Monday through Thursday evening tickets are usually 15 to 30 percent cheaper than Friday and Saturday equivalents. Sunday performances, where available, sit somewhere in between.

Matinee Performances

Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday matinees offer better availability and often lower prices than evening shows. Perfect for travelers who want to keep evenings free for dinner.

TKTS Booth in Leicester Square

Same day and next day discounted tickets are sold from the TKTS booth in Leicester Square. Discounts of 25 to 50 percent are common for shows with unsold seats. Arrive when the booth opens at 10:00 am for the widest selection. Cash and card accepted.

Rush Tickets and Day Seats

Many West End productions release a small number of tickets at reduced prices for that evening's performance. These are usually available at the box office when it opens (typically 10:00 am). Rush tickets often start at around £20 to £30 (around $26 to $38), significantly below face value. Best for shows where you're flexible on seating.

Lottery Apps

TodayTix runs digital lotteries for popular shows including Hamilton, Wicked, and Six the Musical. Enter through the app and receive results a few hours before the show. Winning entries pay around £20 to £40 (around $26 to $51) for tickets that would normally cost £80 to £150.

Off Peak Seasons

January to March (excluding half term) and September to mid October are the cheapest windows for West End tickets. School holidays, Christmas week, and summer (July to August) see the highest prices.

Best Seats at West End Theatres

Where you sit significantly affects your experience. Every venue is slightly different, but the general layout is consistent.

  • Stalls (ground floor). Closest to the stage, most immersive. Front rows can be too close for shows with wide staging (Wicked, Hamilton). Middle to rear stalls are usually the best value.
  • Dress Circle (first balcony). Often the best sightlines in the house, particularly for musicals with large ensemble numbers. Front rows of the Dress Circle are frequently considered the best seats in most theatres.
  • Upper Circle (second balcony). More affordable and offers a wider view of the full stage. Some seats have limited legroom, and side seats can have partial views.
  • Boxes. Historic side boxes offer a unique experience but often have restricted sightlines. Not recommended for shows with technical staging.
  • Grand Circle or Balcony (top level). The cheapest seats. Views are distant but adequate for shows where music matters more than fine detail.

For most travelers, the front rows of the Dress Circle offer the best combination of view and value.

Our family of four booked the Tower Bridge view suite, which was incredibly spacious and came with a kitchen and washing machine – super convenient! The view of Tower Bridge from our window was amazing, and the subway station was just a few steps downstairs, along with a ferry terminal. We used boats and the subway for all our travel, which was really easy. There's a small supermarket a few hundred meters away where you can pick up basic groceries, fruit, and daily necessities. The only downside was the price being a bit high during peak season, but other than that, no complaints! The front desk staff were also very nice! By the way, they provided slippers, toothbrushes, and toiletries, so I didn't even need to use the ones I brought. 😀

Superb location and view. I was very surprised and happy to see a full kitchen inside the apartment/hotel room, although my stay was short and did not have time to use the facilities… wish next time I will stay longer and fully enjoy the very modern and nicely renovated accommodation! The view facing Tower Bridge is beautiful. There are a number of restaurants / cafes nearby very convenient to find eating options.

The hotel is located in a very safe and convenient area, with easy access to transportation, which is a big plus. However, the service from many staff members was quite disappointing. They did not feel welcoming, especially during breakfast where some staff appeared unfriendly and unapproachable, and service overall was quite limited. The room experience also did not meet expectations for a 5-star hotel. Housekeeping only changed bed sheets every three days, which feels quite infrequent. The in-room amenities were minimal and not well equipped. The heating system in the room was also a major issue. The heater was not warm enough, and when I informed the staff, they only provided an extra portable heater, which was not practical in such a small room. The air conditioning could only be adjusted to around 24°C, which made the room too cold at night and too warm during the day, making it very uncomfortable. Overall, the experience did not feel like a 5-star standard at all, and I would personally prefer to stay elsewhere next time where the comfort and service are much better.

Booked a 2-night Premier Two Double Beds Room at Pan Pacific London for my son’s graduation trip via trip.com. The booking stated “pay at hotel,” but unfortunately the hotel pre-collected the payment upon booking instead of charging upon check-in. <PS: I've feedback to trip.com> Upon arrival, they also deducted GBP300 as a deposit (meaning actually charged, not just pre-authorized/blocked). During check-out, I noticed they planned to refund only GBP280 because they had automatically included a 5% per night “service charge.” Since I usually don’t carefully check hotel bills, I asked why the full GBP300 wasn’t being refunded. The staff replied, “Did you like our service?” and said they could remove the charge if I didn’t wish to pay it. Honestly, I found this quite unreasonable and unacceptable, especially as it felt like a hidden optional charge rather than something transparently communicated upfront. This is definitely one negative point I would like to highlight. Apart from that, the room itself was spacious, the bed and mattress were extremely comfortable, and I absolutely loved their warm bathrobes. Housekeeping service was excellent throughout the stay. However, surprisingly, the mini-bar was not complimentary despite the relatively high room rates for our room type.

The hotel is super close to the airport, and you can easily get there by public transport from the airport – it's just across the road. There are quite a few supermarkets nearby, and the staff are really friendly and welcoming. The overall environment is great, and the linens in the room are clean and tidy. All in all, it was a comfortable stay with good value for money.

The location of this hotel is very good. Got 2 tubes nearby and many bus services. Many cafes, restaurants, supermarkets within 5 mins walking distance. The hotel is under renovation, our room is just renovated, so it is nice. But as our room is close to their housekeeping room, so it is so noisy as they keep opening and closing the doors and also exit door. It’s quite disturbing. Cleaniness can be improved as the mugs still have previous lip print on it. Overall it is convenient to stay in this hotel.

I recently stayed at Novotel London Canary Wharf and it was one of the most enjoyable hotel experiences I’ve had in London. From the moment I checked in, the atmosphere felt modern, welcoming, and effortlessly comfortable. The highlight of the stay was definitely the view from my room. Waking up to the Canary Wharf skyline and watching the city lights come alive at night was incredible. The floor-to-ceiling windows made the entire room feel bright and spacious, and the panoramic cityscape gave the stay a real luxury feel. Another standout experience was visiting Bōkan, the hotel’s restaurant and rooftop bar. The views from up there are absolutely breathtaking , you get a stunning panoramic perspective of the whole of London, from Canary Wharf to landmarks across the city skyline. Whether during sunset or later in the evening, the atmosphere is unforgettable. The combination of great food, drinks, and those sweeping views made it one of the best parts of the trip. The hotel amenities were also excellent. The pool was clean and relaxing, perfect after a long day exploring or working in the city. The gym was well-equipped with everything needed for a proper workout, and the sauna added an extra touch of relaxation that really elevated the overall experience. Overall, Novotel London Canary Wharf delivers the perfect mix of comfort, modern luxury, amazing facilities, and spectacular London views. I’d happily stay there again and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable stay in Canary Wharf.

I've stayed here a few times for business trips. This time I was on vacation and saw a great deal on Ctrip for this weekend – even less than half price – so I booked it right away. The location is excellent, with Tower Hill practically on the doorstep, making it super convenient to get anywhere. The service is reliable, and the staff are quite friendly. I was given complimentary breakfast, though there's usually a bit of a queue, taking about five to ten minutes to get in. The food is decent, and the staff are friendly and helpful. For London, the room is quite spacious, well-equipped, and the shower has plenty of hot water. I really liked the shower gel too. Overall, this price is fantastic and highly recommended. This is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The interior design is magnificent, both in the room and in the common areas. The room was warm, with clean bedding and towels. You can ask at reception for an adapter for British sockets, but we didn't need one as there were USB and Type-C ports instead of sockets. In the bathroom, there were wonderful Le Labo toiletries (now that scent will always remind me of London). There was also a heated towel rail. I recommend getting breakfast – there's a small buffet (granola, fruit, pastries) plus a choice of main breakfast dishes from a menu (full English breakfast, scrambled eggs with salmon, avocado toast). It was delicious and filling, and the filter coffee was one of the best I've ever tasted. The only thing missing was cheese and cold cuts. The room was cleaned daily – dishes were washed, towels were changed, and water was replenished. The hotel's location is also excellent – five minutes to the metro, an M&S food store is also a few minutes' walk away, and there are many bars, a pharmacy, and currency exchange offices on the next street.

First, the positive aspects: - The staff were very friendly. Thank you! - The hotel's location is very good, it is a 2-minute walk from Tower Hill Station (Circle/District line) and a 5-minute walk from Tower Gate DLR station. - There is a coffee machine in the room and complimentary water is provided every day. The bathroom is equipped with the usual amenities. - The bed is comfortable. - The request for a room far away from the lift was granted. The negative aspects: - The room was cool (personal opinion). Despite adjusting the temperature control in the room, the room temperature did not change. - In the second room, water suddenly dripped through the ceiling (in the bathroom) during the night, so there was a change of rooms. It would have been nice (not mandatory, but nice) to offer guests breakfast in return. The television in the new room did not seem to work. Would I book again? In the summer yes.

I was a little hesitant after reading the reviews before checking in, but I still believed in SLH's positioning and quality, and I was not disappointed. The location is excellent and convenient for travel. There is Harrods and many popular dessert shops right outside. Because I had experienced the poor environment of the London Underground and it was often delayed and stopped, I took the bus this time. It was very convenient. Bus 14, 22, and 19 on Brompton Street can basically cover various attractions in downtown London, and you can enjoy the scenery along the way. The hotel adheres to SLH's consistent low-key luxury style. The living room on the first floor feels like home. The water bar, white coffee, and night wine are available for guests to enjoy. The cost depends on the amount and room number of the bill. Breakfast is a buffet with both English and American options. The hotel's butler service is great!

I strongly believe that employees who love their workplace naturally provide better service, and Melissa is a perfect example of this. Perhaps this is part of The Langham’s charm—not only does it attract guests, but it also creates an environment where employees take pride in their work. Additionally, I am deeply grateful to Office Duty Manager Nanyu Nanev, who went above and beyond to assist me when I stored my luggage. Our stay here was a breath of fresh air after our experience in a shoebox hotel room in another hotel closer to London Kings Cross. The hotel has been recently renovated and now has a modern artsy interior. Facilities and interior of the rooms are very new and clean. And we also appreciated the room size which was much more spacious compared to other hotels in London - both of us could open our large size luggages with ample room! Although the location is not in the center of tourist attractions, we appreciated that the area was abit more quiet and peaceful but still very convenient as only a short walk to the tube (west Brompton district line) which connected us to majority of attractions easily and within short distance. It was also easy to get onto the picadilly line for Heathrow at the end of our trip as picadilly line stations are also close by. There were also busstops right outside our hotel & west brompton station is also an overground station if you need to travel to outside central london Overall great experience and would definitely stay here again

The hotel rep was kind enough to reply that they could not refund or change the dates of my stay when I informed them with proof of an email by Emirates who cancelled the original flight and rescheduled it causing me to lose an entire whole day and of course my paid booking at the hotel. When I finally landed I actually went to have a look and found the hotel as above. I really hope Trip.com will look into this issue of getting hotels to consider refunds in the event such as illness, emergency or flight cancellations or factors out of customers control regardless of the original clause of non refundable within 24 hours.

I stayed in this hotel 2 nights in a row, but under 2 bookings, so I experienced 2 different rooms. A single and a twin. We stayed during a heatwave this summer and the first room I stayed in was the single. It was very small, but had everything I needed, including a TV, window and AC. Unfortunately the AC was not working so the room was unbearably hot. The window was also painted shut, so there was no movement of air at all. I did ask at reception for a fan, which was brought up to me. Unfortunately it was a tower fan, which mostly moved around the hot air. That night the only way I could sleep was by dunking a towel in cold water and having it laid on top of me. The bed was comfy though, thank goodness. The second night I was staying in a twin - the room was much bigger and again, had everything we needed - including a working AC system (yay!). Beds were really comfy and amenities included bottles of water (in both room types) which was a bonus. We checked-in in advance and left our bags as we were going to a festival at Hyde Park all day. When we returned there was a long queue to get room keys and our bags. The staff on the desk (2) were really friendly, even though there were a few grumpy people in the queue before us. They weren't able to give us our bags at the time of getting the keys, so they brought the bags up to our room within 30 minutes. That was a bit of a hassle considering we had been out all day, were exhausted and just wanted to sleep, however, we understood that it was busy. We got what we paid for - perfect location for the undergrounds and Hyde Park in a beautiful building. Shame about the AC in the first room, especially considering it's a 4-star hotel, but ultimately didn't put a dampner on the weekend.

Absolutely loved the location and will definitely return. The service and attention to detail from the reception team especially is 10/10. Certain areas of the hotel need refurbishing - even if just a lick of paint for now as they aren't in line with the rest of the hotel. The room was small but practical and unfortunately didn't have the best of views but that's not an issue. I felt comfortable and safe during my stay. Had a minor issue with the air con unit which is very dated and didn't match the aesthetic of a modern and refurbished room which looks very appealing. Overall, would be very happy to visit again especially during the summer and try out their dinner menu.

I also thought that the breakfast was good or good enough and the gym was also satisfactory. The one area I felt the hotel didn't meet my expectations was the small matter of being able to sleep. There is no meaningful air conditioning in the rooms and unfortunately the summer has been quite hot. If you are reading this in your room and it's 3 a.m. as you sweat and desperately try to work out whether or not it's something you've misunderstood about the controls or whether something is broken in your room (much like I did at 3 a.m. my first night), then let me assure you that it's not a you problem. The A/C simply doesn't work. It's just on the wall for show. In the three nights I stayed I slept about an hour and a half per night. After the first night I went to the front desk and raised my concern and they gave me a fan I could plug in. This was kind but also not sufficient. Here are a few tips for you should you decide you want to stay at the hotel in the summer: 1. One thing that worked for me first is to take a freezing cold shower before bed and then as you wake up in a pool of sweat every two to three hours take another freezing cold shower. 2. Another option that I tried was to sleep on the floor because the closer you get to the ground the cooler the air becomes. However it's questionable whether the change in temperature is worth being on that carpet. 3. A third option you might consider is to buy something frozen or if possible freeze a large watermelon or vegetable like a zucchini and sleep with it hugging it throughout the night. I unfortunately didn't think to try this but I would love to hear back if you try it and it works for you.

Friday. Check in was so easy so good didn't need to speak to staff other than to ask where the lifts were. Room on tenth floor with great view of the Thames and part of Tower Bridge. A very busy hotel al all times. Enjoyable stay. However, the rooms ac very noisy and at gone midnight had to go down to reception to complain (phone not working). Concierge said will arrange to turn off centrally which was done and should be fixed next day. Saturday. On going to bed found that I could now control the ac but it was still very noisy so turned off. Not very good with the hot weather.

I had a fantastic stay at The Londoner and it totally lived up to the hype. The location is perfectly central, making it ridiculously easy to explore the city without spending half your time on transport. The staff were consistently polite, friendly, and genuinely helpful, one of those places where you feel well looked after from check-in to check-out. The gym and pool facilities were a real highlight: modern, spotless, and ideal for unwinding after a busy day in London. The rooms were stylish and modern with a luxe-but-comfy vibe that made it hard to leave. And the lounge? Super inviting, perfect for relaxed drinks and snacks while soaking up the atmosphere. Would happily stay again! ✨

This is by far one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. The service from the staff was incredible, so thoughtful and kind. The room wasn’t ready for check in time unfortunately. The hotel is beautifully designed. I will definitely be back.

We arrived to be greeted by service and manners from the start to the time we left. Fantastic location, beautiful lobby and eating areas.A lovely reading room where you could read newspapers and have a drink in a quiet place. The whole place was a quiet place really. The swimming pool is good plus the steam room and sauna. The food was excellent too. We went to see Back to the future musical and it was only over the road, that’s how good the location it is as well as Covent Garden being more or less over the road too. You really do feel like a film star staying there.Amazing place.

Corinthia is stunning in every moment. After searching around, this one is highly recommended by everyone! It's really amazing. After getting off the bus, the staff came over immediately to help with luggage and open the door. The first impression was perfect. Check-in at the front desk was also very fast. We arrived at the hotel after one o'clock and normally checked in at three o'clock. The room had been cleaned in advance. The staff took us into the room and introduced some specific facilities in the room. Soon the suitcases were delivered to the hotel for us. The elevator is very unique. There is a clock above to show the floor, which gives people a very different feeling. The hotel's service is meticulous. I believe that many times if you need room service, it will be a headache if you don't know clearly or there are some obstacles in communication. But here you only need to scan the code on the hotel table and you can communicate in real time directly through What's app. It's super Incredibly convenient. I asked for an ironing machine and adapter and they were delivered quickly. The hotel's slippers are also very special, very thick and feel good on the feet. The rooms are all equipped with bathtubs and heaters. It is a spa hotel after all. It is known as the best spa hotel. The spa facilities are really great. There is an elevator directly leading to the spa area on the room floor. The sauna pool and soaking pool are very comfortable. I come here every day to soak in it at night. Nine o'clock, if only it could be later. The breakfast was great, the fruit was fresh and the eggs were excellent. Of course, everything can't be perfect. There are still some small details. Most of the hotel employees are friendly and will say hello and cordial greetings when they see you. However, there are also some employees who will not say a word when they see you. Looking up and down, this makes people feel a little uncomfortable. The room we stayed in seemed to be connected to the room next door due to structural problems. We stayed for three nights. The sound from the opposite side was louder on the second night, which affected our rest. We contacted the hotel as soon as possible the next day, which was also very good. They took care of it and originally said they would change our room because we had too much luggage and really didn't want to move it. The hotel said they had communicated with the guests next door. Sure enough, the last night was very quiet and we spent it happily. The hotel also expressed its opinions. Sincerity, you can feel their attitude. All in all, it was an overall very satisfying trip. If I come to London next time, I will choose this place again.

For London, the value for money was okay, but there were too many issues, so I won't be staying here again. When I checked in, the front desk told me they only had accessible rooms and offered an upgrade for £100, which I declined. They then gave me an accessible room. I went downstairs later and asked another person, who immediately gave me a regular room. There was a young Asian-looking cleaning staff member who stared at me without greeting me and looked hostile, which made me very uncomfortable. Also, for two consecutive days, the cleaning staff threw away the disposable toilet seat cover from my toilet, which I've never encountered before.

Best hotel staff I have ever met. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Rooms are super clean too. However, the rooms are… OLD. The bathroom is cold and has a hospital feel. The water took 3 minutes (literally) to get hot and fails to maintain one temperature. Every room is paper thin. I can hear noises (noises that couples make) down the corridors. My room was also situated extremely far from the lifts so it was a maze to get out every time. Unfortunately, this is what I would expect from a budget hotels not a “by Hilton” level. Truly disappointed.

Heathrow London|17.42km from city center
The hotel was pleasantly surprising for the price and proximity to Heathrow. Though unfortunately the tube strikes hit us, the connection to the airport via the underground would otherwise be invaluable. As it was, it was still fairly doable to get here from Central London without the tube and I enjoyed experiencing a different area of Greater London. Only difficulty was perhaps the lack of guest entry without pressing a buzzer, which posed a problem in the middle of the night when no one was at the desk!

St James London|0.28km from city center
A truly excellent hotel that I highly recommend. It feels very safe, the location is super convenient, and the service is incredibly warm and friendly. The staff, especially the younger gentlemen, were fantastic. The only downsides were the breakfast, which had limited variety and was the same every day, and the fact that toothbrushes and slippers weren't provided unless specifically requested, which was a bit inconvenient.

Very good location (2 min walk to Southwark Station )and room size appropriate. Unfortunately, most of the female receptionist seems like they did not like their job or was not happy when they receive queries. No smiles, no greetings. Breakfast was ok, but we expected more as it’s Novotel. We stayed 3 nights and every day, the warm breakfast assortment were the same: Eggs (scrambled eggs+ sunny side up) beans, mushrooms, hashbrowns, sausages and bacon. Overall it was fine but a value for money.

Service was amazing, food was amazing, location was perfect, my only issue was the window would forcefully shut itself unless wedged open with something and there was nowhere to refrigerate drinks despite the insanely hot weather at the time of my stay, however my trip was amazing and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Practical Tips for International Travelers

 West End Theatre show
  • Dress code is smart casual. Formal dress is not expected. Jeans and clean casual wear are fine at any West End theatre.
  • Bring a light jacket. Theatres can run cool, especially during longer shows. London evenings are chilly year round.
  • Use contactless payment or an Oyster card for transport. Almost all foreign contactless credit and debit cards work directly on the tube, buses, and Elizabeth line.
  • Don't drive. Central London has a congestion charge, ULEZ zone, and very limited parking. Public transport is significantly faster.
  • Bring your passport for pickup. Some ticket collection points require photo ID that matches the booking name.
  • The West End is safe at night. Foot traffic stays heavy until midnight in most theatre streets.
  • Currency is British pounds. Contactless card works almost everywhere; small cash for the TKTS booth if using and for tipping black cab drivers (10 percent is standard).
  • Restaurants take reservations weeks ahead for pre theatre slots at popular venues. Book early if you have a specific spot in mind.
