For the year 2022, the city of Cancun welcomed a record number of visitors to the city when it was reported to have received 30 million travelers🥳, further highlighting the city's status as one of the leading tourist hubs in the world. Cancun possesses numerous world-class hotels and tourist attractions👍. The scenic and serene beaches and the waterfront amenities can all make the tourists feel right at home. The city is especially known for its white sandy beaches. A 13-mile-long coastline and the pristine conditions of the beach are deemed to be some of the best in the world😍. With clear and clean waters beyond the eyes can see. The city is also dotted with numerous UNESCO world heritage sites like the Chichen Itza Mayan ruins, as well as the highly-efficient airport system that eases travel to and from the city. In this article, we will take you through everything you need to know regarding the Cancun trip cost breakdown in 2026.

Cancun trip cost of flights

Cancun Trip Cost

Although the cost of your flight to Cancun will vary depending on your choice of the airline as well as the period of travel, the average plane ticket to Cancun starts from USD400. For those who prefer to be in control of their own itineraries, booking short-term car-rental services at the airport is a good idea😍. And compared with a direct flight, a road trip is much slower but gives the roaming traveler a chance to have a taste of the slower pace of life🌞.

Although the cost of the flight is versatile, it is still one of the most important steps when planning your overall Cancun trip cost. And with all these factors considered, the final cost of a flight to Cancun will depend on individual choices like whether you choose to fly coach, business, or first class, all of which have tiered prices🤔. Another determining factor is the time of the year, as in whether it is high or low tourist seasons. Another factor at play here is the promo code, which can help you buy cheap flights to Cancun. It can entitle you to discounted plane tickets, thereby greatly reducing your final overall Cancun trip cost significantly😆.

How much do hotels cost in Cancun?

One of the biggest attractions in the city is the world-class hotel clusters, like the Hilton and the Grand Park Royal, among others. Just like the flights, the cost of hotels also greatly varies depending on the traveler's expectations, for instance, size and number of occupants🤔, among other determining factors.

However, the average room prices range from USD17 for a 2-star hotel, USD27 for a 3-star, and anything above that will start from USD56. It is, therefore, incumbent on the traveler to choose the room and hotel that best fits their travel and accommodation needs🏨. Lodging is one of the major expenses to your Cancun trip cost, and therefore, it is important to make the booking in advance, taking time to look for a reasonably priced facility that fits within your budgeting plan👍.

For those who are planning to enjoy their honeymoons in Cancun❤️, opting for some quality hotel rooms can make the entire honeymoon even sweeter! Here are some fine choices for all the lovebirds out there.

I absolutely recommend this resort if you're looking for high-energy, sexy fun! The Playmakers help get the party started each day and there's always something happening during the day. Jungle Jay, Ragu, Cami, Andre, and Oswa are the BEST!! Around 10:15p the fun moves to BASH, which is an outdoor club and starts with a theme-night performance. I have traveled to this resort solo several times and always felt safe and welcomed .... and made tons of friends. I like that people there are non-judgmental - you can truly be yourself without reservation. If you're in Cancun, definitely put Temptation on your radar. Once you go, you'll be back.

I recently stayed at this hotel and noticed a few areas for improvement: 1. There was loud noise from what seemed like an exhaust fan outside, requiring the balcony door to be closed for quiet. 2. The room was very humid, and I hope the hotel can add a dehumidifier system. 3. There were too few power outlets, and the ones near the bed were awkwardly placed behind the bedside table, making them hard to reach. 4. The hotel had a noticeable damp smell in both the rooms and hallways, and ventilation was necessary to reduce it. 5. The Wi-Fi was slow and unstable, which was inconvenient. 6. As for the restaurant, the food tasted average, with the grilled meats being too salty. It would be great to see more breakfast variety, especially in terms of bread and sugar-free yogurt options.

Super location that facing the Caribbean Sea 🌊 Good hotel service if you have Marriott membership! They have welcomed drinks (alcohol and coffee and etc) we had tried most of the restaurants inside the hotel, one of the restaurant named Gustino ( Italian restaurant) we ordered their famous steak (FILETTO DI MANZO E RISOTTO DI PORCINI ) and BAVETTE AI FRUTTI DI MARE ( seafood paste that recommended by restaurant) the steak 🥩 was really excellent, BUT the seafood pasta was overcooked and we doubted the freshness of the seafood. We did feedback to the waiter, he just said ops.. sorry. Ok fine! In the mid night, my husband started running to toilet! He had diarrhea 3 times before we checked out the hotel next day morning as we need to catch the flight to New York. I did feedback to the front desk lady, she provided us bottles of mineral water. He had medicine again after light breakfast. Ohh God! He started to diarrhea non stop when reaching New York! We forced to cancel our day trip at New York City as he seriously unwell! He stayed in the hotel room for two days! Omg! It burned our trip at New York City! Really disappointed the quality control of the foods in the well known 5 STARS hotel! I think he sick of pasta seafood now especially with shell!

Hotel is located at the north east point of Cancun strip, which allows to have an access to the beach at the northern side as well as at the eastern side. Both of the beaches are hidden from big waves by the piers. Turquoize suites are spacious and well maintained with an amazing view of the sea. Hotel territory is big enough for walks around it. Sea view from different spots is really beautiful. Hotel has several pools so that the clients can choose one suitable for them. There are several restaurants and bars in the hotel as well, which brings some diversity of options. Hotel staff is very friendly and polite. Service is really good. Overall nice impression of the hotel. Turquoize suite also has a separate building, which is more quiet and a separate swimming pool with a good view of the sea. Definitely recommend this hotel to all sorts of visitors. The only thing that can be better is the food. I would give 4 points out of 5 for the food, it can be more delicious and special as well as the cocktails in the bars, but maybe it’s because of the “all inclusive” type of the service.

The staff in general is always willing to help you, I only had a bad time, upon arrival before arriving at our room, they offered a promotional package to my wife, she accepted and “invited” us a breakfast (which was already included in our all inclusive rate) There began our unpleasant experience. We were summoned at 8:00 am, at first the person who accompanied us to lunch was very friendly, but after he hurried us at breakfast, we could not have breakfast what we wanted because there was no time, only 30 minutes, when a day before we They said they invited us to a breakfast to give us a presentation about Omni hotels. We wanted to finish breakfast, but we agreed to see the hotel suites and then they took us to their sales room, when they tried to sell us the vacation package that we from the beginning said we were not interested they became aggressive and tried to pressure my wife , so we stopped the “presentation” and left, but they made us have a bad time, of course they didn't give us anything promised. I recommend you not accept any promotion at this hotel, because your sales staff does not know how to treat customers. Otherwise, all good.

Everything was great. We especially loved the pool in the late afternoon when the sun was blocked by the building — it wasn’t too hot. The food was better than we expected. Loved the kids club, and all the activities were really fun. The only downside was that the beach wasn’t as good and gentle as the northern ones, and when it was windy, umbrellas weren’t allowed. The buffet restaurant was also quite hot and stuffy.

We made a reservation after reading reviews saying the Italian restaurant was delicious, but it turned out that the Italian restaurant was not included in the all-inclusive plan. However, the other food was also very good. We called to request drinks to be restocked in the fridge, but they never arrived. Although it was the low season, the pool was small and there were never any available seats. At night, there was live band music in the lobby, and we had a great time.

The facilities, staff service, etc. are all the best. In particular, the sea in front of the resort is fantastic. There is a facility to rinse with water after playing in the pool or at the beach, and I think the consideration of turning on hot water is the basic mind of the hotel. The hotel is in a great location. The beach downstairs may be the best in Cancun, with fine sand and clear water. It is a 10-minute walk from the port, and it is convenient to go to Isla Mujeres. The food here is also good, with stewed pork and stewed chicken, rice, and the drinks in the bar are delicious. Sometimes there are performances at night. The front desk service attitude is quite good, especially the male front desk in a dark blue short-sleeved shirt and glasses, who has a very good attitude. Overall, it is very good and suitable for vacation. Ordinary rooms can see a little sea at the edge. If you need a sea view, it is recommended to have a sea view room. Seaside hotels are more humid, but the sea is indeed beautiful.

LeBlanc will remain a good memory for my wife and I for a long time. I compared several places, including Nijuk and Hyatt, as recommended by acquaintances, and one of the reasons I ultimately chose them was because they had a Korean concierge. They say Mexico has become a lot safer, but there are things you don't know. I chose this as a way to help out and LeBlanc was a godsend during this two week long vacation. I spent time in Tulum before arriving at LeBlanc, and there was a theft at the Azulik Hotel, which is popular for its eco-friendliness. After looking through Trip and Google reviews, I feel really sorry that I was not aware of the frequent Azulic theft incidents. Damage exceeding 4 million won was suffered... I tried my best to find it, but English conversation is difficult in Mexico. Even though there was only one police officer who spoke English, it was very difficult. My husband and I were able to come to our senses, even though the case could not be resolved, with the help of LeBlanc's Korean concierge, Jaeha Kim. If Jeha wasn't there, the rest of my vacation schedule would have been ruined. Even though he was busy, he focused on my wife and I and helped us with our work, and even after returning to Korea, he asked how we were doing and gave us great comfort. I was deeply touched by his sincerity toward his guests. He was also very professional in solving the problem and explained in a coherent manner all the things to do and relax at the hotel. Spots and tips inside and outside the hotel, and even tips for selecting clothes at the photo zone.^^ He even showed me pictures of what was delicious, what was good to buy, etc. Where can I meet someone like this? Dear Jaeha, this is the first and last day for the Dink couple, who travel twice a year and focus a large part of their lives on travel. The angel concierge at Le Blanc, which was like heaven♡ I have enjoyed all-inclusive experiences in Egypt. First of all, Leblanc's liquor was exceptionally excellent, beyond comparison. The quality of the dishes also did not lag behind. Of course, there were some that seemed a bit insincere, but wouldn't one out of a hundred things be lacking to be humane?^^ Even if you are tired, we recommend that you enjoy the meal at one of the many restaurants rather than room service. There are a variety of things to enjoy, including classes, spas, laser shows, performances, and more. The private beach is also kept very clean. I think it is a strength that can appeal because it is compared to other places, and I hope that Le Blanc will be established not only in Cancun but also in other places. So much so that my husband is thinking about living at Le Blanc for a month.. haha. When a picky and strict Korean man thinks about the LeBlanc Flex, his mouth hurts. Recalling the various aspects of LeBlanc that are still vivid...♡♡

Dining out while in Cancun

Shrimp Ceviche

Most top destinations in the world have culinary specialties that they are famous for, and in this regard, Cancun is no exception🤭. Although taco has been warmly welcomed by foodies from all over the world, those who are on vacation tend to have higher expectations of the foreign land😬. There are many layers of other local dishes on the menu that will excite your taste buds😍, from the local rendition of the tamale known as tamal torteado de pollo to the shrimp ceviche, and more delicious regional delicacies are ready to make a difference👍.

For those that are less inclined to try out foreign or ethnic foods, there are also some familiar options🤣, like McDonald's and Burger King, that are available. The average meal will cost from USD1 and onwards. Naturally, the price might go up for more high-end establishments, but the cheap and down-to-earth roadside restaurants embody the spirits and culture of the country. So whether you are looking to expand your culinary palette or searching for familiar tastes from back home, there is bound to be something that is right up your alley. And if street food meets your preference, then you will definitely want to check out Parque Las Palapas. Here, you will be able to find different food carts and stalls with a wide variety of local delicacies and specialties, including tacos and more. All food here is at a pocket-friendly price that will undoubtedly, make sure that you eat well and spend less😍.

Buying trinkets and mementos is a common practice when visiting a new city🎁. Whether it is for loved ones or friends and families, the idea of bringing back something from a trip abroad is universally appealing to travelers. It, therefore, comes as no surprise that Cancun, just like all major cities around the world😍, is home to a bustling souvenir industry where all sorts of items are up for grabs. Because of the high-profile nature of the city, as well as the huge numbers of tourists, the souvenir prices tend to be slightly higher, with most items ranging around USD30, depending on where you got them🤔. However, it is advisable to be on the lookout for tourist scams, as some unscrupulous people are always looking to rip off tourists. Falling for a scam would cause an unnecessary and unforeseen spike in your Cancun trip cost and put a damper on the entire trip, so it's advisable to keep your guard up and use common knowledge and reason👍. Some of the most common souvenirs in the city include the Mexican Sombrero, Mayan jewelry, and woven baskets, among others.

And if you should be so lucky as to travel during the time of El Día de los Muertos, which can be roughly translated into English as the Day of the Dead😈. The holiday is traditionally celebrated at around the end of October, or the beginning of November, and variations depends on the locality. The multi-day celebration brings the whole family and friends together to pay respects to their dearly departed. The tone of the celebrations is usually on the lighter side as a way of sharing some anecdotes of those who are resting peacefully out there.

How to go out and about while staying in Cancun?

Public Transportation in Cancun

Public Transportation in Cancun / Source: Oliver Cole@Unsplash

One of the most crucial determinants of a great trip is the ability to move around from place to place with ease👍. As soon as you arrive at the airport, one of the most frequent expenses would be transportation. You will have easy access to the airport shuttle as well as the option of hailing a cab. Although the shuttle requires prior booking online, it is cheaper to cut down on costs. Choosing a taxi will get you from the airport all the way to your hotel for roughly 30min depending on the whereabouts of the hotel. And if you have already booked flights on the website, then there is also a one-stop-shop experience for all customers traveling to Cancun. By entering the flight number and departure date, you have given all the cab drivers who work closely a chance to be of better help to the customers. This provides the customer with a nice beginning right off the bat.

After settling down at the hotel, I bet you could hardly wait for all the excitement ahead. Cancun is a well-known tourist attraction. The city has developed several tourist bus routes around town to cater to the visitor's satisfaction. The buses are convenient and reliable, and they are widely considered to be the cheapest way to travel to the city. So for all the first-time visitors out there, there's not a lot to fret about.

Since the buses work around the clock, with just a few minutes between each shift, the bus route pretty much covers most parts of the town. Spending a day on a bus and letting the cool air of the city flow through your fingertips will take all the troubles away.

And for those that prefer grabbing a cab to get around the town, you might need to deploy all your haggling skills as there are no regulated or fixed prices. Thus, you need to come to terms with your driver before you get in.

El Rey Archaeological Zone

The city is arguably one of the most high-profile and most visited destinations in the entire country of Mexico🥰. And the reputation is well-deserved too. With its expansive beaches and crystal-clear waters stretching out as far as the eye can see👀, it is no wonder hordes of tourists scuffle to endeavor to have a taste of this paradise every year and can easily attract more than a million visitors annually🔥. Apart from the pristine beaches, the city also has numerous gems on offer, including the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, which are more than 1000 years old and are a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Red House Chichanchob

The El Rey Maya ruins are also laden with historical and cultural significance👍. The Maya museum, Urbano Kabah park, and many more sites are just a few of the many options you can visit in the city😍. Although some activities, visiting the beach, for example, might be free, entering sites is not free, and the amount varies depending on the sites. For Chichen Itza, visitors will have to pay USD29 as a standard fee, although there is a pricier option for a private tour, which could cost up to UDS300. For El Rey Maya ruins, the entrance cost is much lower. You will need to plan your Cancun trip cost for this purpose.

Staying in touch while in Cancun

Stay in touch even in a foreign land

Stay in touch even in a foreign land / Source: NordWood Themes@Unsplash

Whether it is for work purposes or simply to keep tabs on loved ones, being able to stay in touch with others is essential for every trip📞. This need or anxiety is worsened by social media. The need to always stay connected, sharing all the minute and memorable moments of our lives with close ones, gives way to the market of communication abroad. For many, a trip isn't complete without taking lots of pictures and videos, documenting every step of their adventure for posterity. And you will be thrilled to know that as soon as you land at the airport, you will be able to connect to the Wi-Fi, free of charge, to all passengers in the airport terminals.

  • However, when it comes to Internet speed and stability, you might need to turn it down a notch because the free Wi-Fi in the city is relatively slow, averaging speeds of 3mbps.
  • And in terms of cost, the average daily expenditure on Wi-Fi will range between USD10 to USD15 per day, which is a large amount of expenditure. Although you can always find the occasional free connection from a cafe or restaurant, the expense of the Internet might take up a larger proportion of the entire Cancun trip cost. And if you are a digital nomad, as you have the need for a faster and more stable connection, then it is bound to be more expensive.

👉 When it comes to cellphone service, it is highly recommended to buy a SIM card at the airport after landing, as this kind of card usually comes with pre-paid data plans and call duration. And this card can help you stay online throughout your trip.

Passport costs before traveling to Cancun

Essentials for the trip to Cancun

Essentials for the trip to Cancun / Source: Oziel Gómez@Unsplash

By now, we have established that your overall Cancun trip cost involves a number of integrated expenses that you have to be aware of and plan ahead😭. Some of these costs are passport-related or will include the actual cost of acquiring a passport, in case you don't already possess one. The price and procedure vary greatly since different countries have different thresholds and procedures for it too.

A fairly universal Cancun trip cost that most people will encounter is the cost of visa application to Mexico, which is mandatory if one is to enter the country🤔. The average cost associated with this application is USD48, and this is paid at the Embassy of Mexico. However, there are some countries whose citizens are exempted from this rule and can therefore enter Mexico and proceed to Cancun without a visa👍.

This list of countries is quite substantive and includes the United States, European Union, among many others. Since the procedures and the cost of passport acquisition vary greatly from one to another, it is wise to do some research beforehand so as to be prepared👀. Another option is to physically visit the embassy of Mexico in your country to check the requirements needed to apply for a visa. But if your nationality is not exempted, then feel free to consult relevant professionals for the paperwork prep.

3-day Cancun trip cost

Playa Delfines

Playa Delfines / Source: Trip.com

So you have decided to take your trip, the next thing you will need to do is break down the planning and expenses involved. To comfortably get through a 3-day trip, you will need to set aside USD699 for expenses.
  • Accommodation: You will be spending an average of USD116 per night for the hotel room, assuming that is the accommodation you choose to settle for.
  • Food: Average USD23 a day
  • Public transportation: costs averaging USD3 daily
  • Sightseeing fees: USD11 or among other costs.
  • Tourist tax: One important cost is the tourist tax of USD12 imposed by Quintana Roo State on all travelers in the state.

👉Although these costs will vary depending on what kind of budget you set for your travel, ranging from nomad travel all the way to luxury, these numbers represent a mid-range traveler choosing to keep their costs manageable.

Cancun trip cost for family vs. couple vs. single travel

Excursion for friends and families

Excursion for friends and families / Source: Mike Scheid@Unsplash

The overall Cancun trip cost will vary greatly depending on the number of people. Therefore the cost for a family traveling together will be significantly higher than that of someone traveling solo.

1. Family

For a family of four, the total cost of the trip would come up to USD3,800, although this number would increase if more people were to join the group. Another factor that would cause a spike in the trip cost would be an extension of the trip duration, meaning the longer you stay, the more expensive the trip becomes🤔. As already mentioned before, the quality of the trip would also determine the overall cost, with luxury trips costing more, as you would patronize more expensive hotels and restaurants🙏.

One advantage of family travel is that there are discounts available in many places for groups, and this may eventually bring down the overall costs. When it comes to entertainment, the prices can be prohibitive, especially for large families, with costs ranging from USD30 all the way to USD 100 per person. However, there are also special promo codes available online for special group discounts for many activities.

2. Couple

Source: Julie Sd@Unsplash

In the case of a couple traveling together, maybe even for their honeymoon, the cost of the trip would be slightly lower, coming up to USD2,000 in total. The cost of flight tickets alone would come around to around USD300 for two people, and the rest would be spent on food and other expenditures. Depending on personal preference, this arrangement can also provide for cost-sharing as some expenses can be split between the two, making the trip much more affordable.

3. Solo

Playa Chac Mool

Playa Chac Mool / Source: Trip.com

For solo travelers, there is a lot of flexibility in terms of cost management as it's easier to make necessary adjustments in order to find cheaper options for hotel and accommodation. The average Cancun trip cost for a single traveler is about USD1,000. Since money will be saved on plane tickets and other expenses, it can be diverted to paying for one-of-the-life-time experiences and excursions to enhance the quality of the trip.

How to save money during your Cancun trip?

A few pointers for saving money for the trip

A few pointers for saving money for the trip / Source: Sasun Bughdaryan@Unsplash

On average, the majority of travelers are interested in finding ways to cut costs when traveling. However, this is often easier said than done, and it can be quite a challenge to decide which activities are to be cut for cost control.

👉 When traveling, one of the biggest challenges is the currency exchange rates and the local currency, which in most cases might be alien to comprehend. The usual practice in such cases is to simply use their credit cards and not deal with the bustle of a foreign currency for mundane tasks like paying for food or buying souvenirs. However, it is always advisable to exchange a reasonable amount of money beforehand into the local currency, Pesos in this case, for rainy-day emergencies. It is also wise to carry some local currency whenever you go out to eat at the restaurant or pay for services like taxis, as this will also give you the option of leaving a tip based on personal preference and the services enjoyed in the establishment.

👉 Since paying with local currency gives you a chance to get lower prices when making payments, thus enabling you to cut your Cancun trip cost. In case it isn't possible to exchange money before traveling, you can simply use the ATM machines in the airport after landing to withdraw cash, and it is also advisable to research the exchange rates before the flight so as to maximize your budget.

👉 When it comes to choosing where to stay, it is best to avoid the areas with a high concentration of tourist activity as this is bound to be more expensive. One of these areas is called "the strip," and it is by the beach with all the major hotels. If you are looking for a way to save money on accommodations, it is better to look for lodging closer to the city's downtown area, as this will definitely be slightly cheaper. It is also an area that is connected to a well-organized bus system, ensuring you will only be a few minutes away from the city's center, where all the restaurants, bars, and other amenities are located.

🏨 Accommodation can be one of the biggest hurdles to navigate when trying to keep your Cancun trip cost management under check. It is therefore wise to consider choosing hostels as an alternative. Apart from the fact that they are significantly cheaper, they are also a great way to meet and mingle with new and exciting people on your trip or even get the chance to do some of the activities together and possibly share the bills.

Mouth-watering dishes in Cancun

😇 Regarding food, it is imperative that you consider cooking your own food once in a while. Fresh produce that you can buy cheaply from the local farmer's market can make a big difference. This will keep the expenses for dining out in check and control your spending while still getting to experience the city in a whole new way.

👉Instead of paying for guided group tours of the numerous Mayan attractions around the city, you can opt for a solo tour of the sites and go around exploring on your own. This might even give you a chance to have a more detailed look at the historical sites, a much cheaper option too. This is a way to meet new people and make friends, as well as take some great pictures that will undoubtedly make friends back home jealous, all the while saving some money for the next adventure.

🚌 The city has an efficient bus system that runs 24/7 throughout the city. This eliminates the need to hail a cab or even hire a car to tour the city. Another trick to reduce your Cancun trip cost should be bookings online in advance. Since most companies and websites usually have a better deal for online bookings as opposed to last-minute in-person ones.

📆 Always check your destinations online beforehand so as to have a better bearing on the whereabouts. This also helps you to avoid crowded tourist areas that are bound to be more expensive and annoying. From September to November, this is the high season of the year. Steer clear from that time. Then the price would be much lower and much safer for foreign travelers. And before departure, double-check with the local embassy to see if the time in mind is the best time to travel there.
