My husband and have stayed at The Stamford Plaza times many times over the years and have always loved it, but this was the first time bringing the kids, as we wanted to treat them to a special night out in the school holidays. PROS - The pool and spa were the highlight of our trip. After reading some previous reviews about the water being too cold we were a little concerned, but they were both absolutely wonderful. The pool area was clean and the pool was lovely and warm. The spa was perfect and HOT - just the way we love it. My children LOVED the glass elevator, this was a real thrill for them and they are already asking when we can go back to go in it again. We did meet some lovely staff during our stay, and check in and check out was fast and easy. The room was nice and clean. There is absolutely no view of the city lights (we were looking out onto a wall) but this is just due to the location and can't be helped. The central location is fantastic. CONS - No valet - I'm sure this was a service that used to be offered in the past? Our bags took nearly 2 hours to be delivered to our room, and this was time wasted that we were planning on heading out to explore the city. They only arrived after several follow up calls asking how much longer they would be. We only had 2 towels (and no robes) in our bathroom, even though our booking was for a family of 4. When our bags arrived, we asked the gentleman to please provide 2 more towels for the kids but they never came. We ended up needing to take 2 extra towels from the pool area back to our room. Our 'Indulgence Package' included a bottle of wine which we were told would be brought up to the room. This also never came and I needed to ask for it upon checking out. The real let down though was the buffer breakfast, which was included in our package. We have stayed at many 4 and 5 star hotels and this was possibly the worst breakfast we have come across - I wouldn't even rate it a 2. The coffee machine was broken, and there was no service asking if we would like a fresh tea or coffee. My son had the pancakes (pre-made sitting out with the bread) and he said they tasted stale and crumbled in his mouth. The hot food (eggs, bacon, tomato, hash brown) were all stone COLD - not even luke warm. I considered asking if they could pop my plate into the microwave to heat them up but lost my appetite wondering how long it had been just sitting out there. And the fresh fruit was dry and looked like it had been sitting out a long time. I wish we hadn't taken take package with breakfast included, as we could have had a hot breakfast for much less $$ from the McDonalds just around the corner. Our package also included late check out to 12 noon however our keys did not allow us entry back in after 11am. OVERALL - We would stay at the Stamford again however I think they need to advertise it for what it truly is - a 4 star hotel. We have stayed at many 5 star hotels in Melbourne such as Crown Towers, the Langam and the HFrom$108

It’s an old hotel and needs upgrading. Pool area is a disaster, dull and ugly. Very outdated decor. Hallway dark and gloomy. The bedroom was worn out. Bed head material was coming apart. Not a 5 star hotel and definitely not value for money. There are much newer and cheaper hotels in Melbourne with better amenities.
The one thing that was fabulous was the breakfast. Amazing variety, wonderful staff and lovely ambience. The location of the hotel is also great and convenient as it is close to amazing restaurants and bars. The pillows were also comfortable.From$195

The only shortfalls - My room did not service on the first night and requests took more than 20 minutes after second follow up calls. However, I appreciated the Duty Manager organizing the amenities and ensuring my room receives service on the next day. However, the next day I placed a card on the bed to request changed linen. But linen did not get changed, glassware has been removed from the room and did not replenish tea bags. Took 3 times to get it right. Positive side - i love design, location and cleanliness. It is a very challenging time for the hospitality industry to hire the right person for the right job. keep it up good work - Housekeeping. I hope my next visit will experience better service. Stayed in Fabulous room for 5 nights. Room was spacious and clean, but disappointedly without a view as our room was directly facing the service apartment Oaks Melbourne on Market. Bathroom was big too and a nice pleasure to have a bidet toilet. However, the basin was too shallow and it was difficult not to wet the vanity top after each washing of hands or brushing of teeth. Toiletries came in very small bottles, unlike the jumbo sized bottles that we had enjoyed at our previous hotel in Hobart. Bathtub was a bit narrow for a plus-size person to have a good soak. Great location with tram stops nearby and many eateries around the hotel. Pool is opened 24 hours, great for a relaxing dip or swim after a long day of activities. Service provided by front office and breakfast at restaurant Lollo was generally good and prompt. The only gripe of our stay at W Melbourne would probably be the inconsistent service provided by the housekeeping team. The team seemed to just clean and make up the room but didn’t have the initiative to replenish any empty toiletries bottle. Often we had to call the service line and asked for replenishment. There was once before leaving our room for our day tour, we had explicitly checked that we had switched off the privacy button. However we received en email from the hotel at about 4.30p.m informing that the housekeeping team couldn’t clean our room because the privacy light was switched on. How could that possibly happen when we had already made multiple checks making sure that the privacy light was really turned off?! Then on the next day, we came back to our room after shopping at about 4p.m, thinking to put our purchases in the room and rest a bit before heading out again. However to our rude shock, our room wasn’t tidied up at all. Overall, it was still a good stay due to its convenient location though the housekeeping team still has room for improvement.From$203

I must say the location is 10/10 as its just a block away from southern cross station. We took the airport skybus and took a short walk w our 2 toddlers to hotel to and fro with our 4 check in baggages with ease.
Coles” also across the street with tons of food options nearby. Its also within free tram zone so another great plus for us! Our rooms came with Continental breakfast. Selection during breakfast wasn’t great, but kids and us weren’t fussy. Our room smell a little stale when we check in initially but most times we were out and about and after a while, not as noticeable. Generally a fuss free hotel with great value. Certainly hope to be back soon!From$90

Location is good, about 10 minutes from Southern Cross Station and Skybus to Melbourne Airport. There are also tram stations nearby to some tourist attractions, as well as supermarkets, restaurants, etc. The room is generally fine, though some rooms of the same room type look smaller due to its configuration. We used the 24h private carpark that the hotel recommended, but was double charged by both hotel and the carpark itself. Initially the hotel staff wanted to refund the lower charge which we declined, and we had to spend some time and effort to get the manager to help settle with the carpark. Most staff were more approachable, while there was one or two who did not seem interested. Luckily, the issue was resolved in the end.From$57

The hotel is conveniently located right in the heart of Melbourne near the Spanish Quarter, Bourke Street Mall, and other shopping precincts. The staff are friendly and efficient at check-in. The rooms are good in size with modern amenities and comfortable beds. There is a kettle and small fridge. The bathroom has a bath with a shower, so if you have mobility issues, it's not for you. There is no rail to hold onto when getting in or out, which makes it dangerous, especially as it gets slippery. There is a pool and gyn which were modern and accessible. The room we had faced into the mezzanine of the hotel so you dont get any light from outside, which was strange. The room was very quiet and had a good air conditioner. Overall, we would stay here again, although the lack of being able to see outside wasn't ideal, and if you stayed for more than one night, it could be an issue. From$123

Stayed here as a Diamond Ambassador in an iconic suite - Check in experience was great, warm welcome, benefits acknowledged and welcome drink provided. Amazing room, ridiculous amount of space, comfortable bed, great little office/working area. Unfortunately, the general level of service/care factor is lacking especially when staying in a room costing over 1k a night! One of my complimentary water bottles was open/used and about half empty, yuck. Later that day I wanted to use my $25 credit on the minibar 200ml bottle of gin (which is listed as inclusive of 4 mixers). Gin was missing from the mini bar I couldn't find it. Called down to reception to ask if it was by request, they assured me it should be there and would send someone up. Waited 2 hours and no one came which frustrated me as I was waiting so called down again and was assured someone was on the way. Someone did arrive with a huge bag full of everything except the gin. When questioned didn't seem to know what I was talking about, I had to point to it on the minibar menu and was met with a very confused expression, he left. Then about 30 minutes later a different person arrives with the gin bottle, success. However upon checkout there were a bunch of mini bar items charged which I hadn't consumed, and in fact were not even missing. I hate having to have that conversation but after only 3 words they were ”happy to remove them” which makes me think this isn't an uncommon occurrence. I later noticed that the mixers were charged as well where as they should have been included with the gin purchase cost, but I couldn't be bothered wasting my time to try and sort it out. Club lounge service was attentive but did fill up and get quite busy in the evenings however my drink was always topped up and the staff there were friendly and engaging. Temperature control seems non-existent in the room and I'm convinced it makes no difference what you set it to. I had my do not disturb on until mid morning, so as I was leaving for the day dropped by reception and said I may have missed housekeeping and could they have someone make up the room. Arrived back a few hours later and it hadn't been done. All up a real mixed bag here, but can't help feel my simple requests were a bother and inconvenience. From$194

I stayed at the Sheraton because it was surprisingly cheap for the location and star rating. I soon found out why. The sleep quality was not the best - I woke up with a head and neck ache one night and painful for dry eyes the next. The check out experience took the cake though. I was told that “for security reasons” they can only take chip-and-pin payments with a physical card. I was also told this was “standard for all Marriott hotels”. These are blatant lies: I have used tap payments at Marriott hotels on five continents, most recently at a Marriott in Australia just last year. Tap and pay hadn’t gotten less secure since 2022! I’m so used to paying on the phone I’d forgotten the PIN on the physical card. After some arguing I was allowed to swipe-and-sign. So secure! What offends me isn’t so much the backwardness, but the lies to dress up the backwardness as a benefit rather than just cheapness. Never again. Oh and I’m here posting this review again because it turns out negative reviews don’t get passed through to Tripadvisor.From$174

Rooms were clean and fresh smelling. Furniture and furnishings were lovely. Spacious with well appointed kitchen. Coffee machine to have your pods in. The bed was very comfortable and I had a fantastic night sleep. Not many parking spaces but public transport within short walking distance. If I had to nit pick, it would be that there wasn’t a shower cap for use in the bathroom. Totally recommend this place to anyone and would definitely stay here again

The service can only be improved. There is no hot water in the bath, and the air conditioner is noisy. There is no spare pillow in the room, the sofa collapses, just the TV can meet the requirements. Such a room should not be offered to customers. I only stayed for one night so I didn't pursue other things. I won't stay at this hotel again.

|4.32km from RiversdaleThe building is only a few years old but already showing early signs of wear in public areas. However the room itself was very clean and well designed. We stayed in a base rate room and while on the smaller side was ample space for what we needed. The king bed was very comfortable and the shower was spacious and great pressure. A coffee machine with pods is provided. Access to the hotel from the west is extremely easy but if you are approaching from the east there is no way to turn right into the hotel and you have to go a fair way down the road before you can turn around and come all the way back. Once on property there is a nice curved driveway to park while you are checking in. Parking onsite was $35 but as I had read these reviews I knew to ask about the street parking and was told it would cost $15. I said ‘I thought on the weekends it was free’ and they responded ‘oh yes, we can give you complimentary parking’ (Haha). The staff were very friendly. The street parking is on the street along the nearby river (Yarra Blvd) and takes 1 min to walk across a grass parkland to this street. On the weekend it seemed a very quiet street and safe to park. This street parking is metered parking between 8am-5pm Mon- Fri so the hotel can provide a pass for $15 but if your stay is outside these hours you can park for free. The tram station is immediately out the front of this hotel so although it is a fair way from the CBD it is easy access to Melbourne. Our T.V. remote was not working (maybe old batteries) so we were unable to watch T.V. and the clock beside the bed lit up the time while the lights were on but seemed to be light activated because once all lights were switched of it also switched off so you could not see the time during the night - so keep your phone clock handy.

|4.66km from RiversdaleWe arrived at the Box Hill Motel, after driving from Sydney, on Saturday 14th December about 6 PM. We selected this motel on the basis that they provide a free WIFI connection for their guests. When we asked the manager, Sue to arrange for someone to help us set up our computer, she said there was no one available and gave us a telephone number to contact for assistance. When we tried this number the line was busy and we were put on hold. After being on hold for fifteen minutes, the connection was broken and we had to redial the number and start again. This happened three times. In frustration, we contacted the manager several times and were advised that all other guests had no problem with the WIFI connection and implied that the problem was our fault. Her attitude was that this was not her problem and if we were not happy with the service we should check out. No refund was offered. Her behaviour was not what we expected from a motel manager. They are supposed to look after their guests and attend to any problems they have. We eventually made the connection and were able to use the internet, no thanks to the manager. In view of these circumstances we will certainly not recommend the Box Hill Motel.

The hotel stands out like a gold shimmery beacon in a flat landscape but there is no signage to indicate how to access the place. It’s mainly occupied by residents so isn’t like a conventional hotel - this isn’t obvious at booking. There is no contact number so after doing laps of the block I ran out to the front door to see a mobile number for the manager on duty. He opened the underground car park door & we parked. Then checked in where he told us that there was no parking associated with our booking. He ended up finding a spot 20 minutes later. The room was nice. New, clean & had everything you need. The indoor pool needs to be prebooked which wasn’t told to us and the reception hours were different to what the print out of information they gave us at check in. The area has plenty of Asian cuisine options and little else. Finding a coffee or a cafe for breakfast on the Saturday morning was impossible - there’s just nothing open (except maccas). Overall everything was just too difficult & not smooth. Last thing you want after traveling for 12 hours.

|4.99km from RiversdaleThis property definitely has some positives. The price is cheap for an apartment and it's very close to Box Hill Central and pretty close to Box Hill Hospital. The staff were able to get us in to our room early which was also very handy. The negatives, the amenities feel cheap, the double bed was made up of 2 single mattresses pushed together, and the mattresses were very thin. The couch was the same it just felt cheap and poor quality. The other negative with this property was the odor in the corridor which smelt like a mixture of cigarettes and stale cooking smells, although within the apartment we were in there was no odor so that was a positive. If you need somewhere for a short stay in and around Box Hill this property is quite ok, but be realistic about what you are expecting at the price point
