The kids absolutely loved it! You have to store your shoes upon check-in, which adds a nice touch of ritual. The hot springs♨️ were better than expected; even though it was crowded, there was a great variety of pools, about 5-6, including some semi-outdoor ones. The onsen experience was truly delightful. The ice pops and ramen were an added bonus – it was quite funny seeing everyone line up for the ramen. It's right next to Kyoto subway station, so it's a great option for your arrival or final days. You can also walk to Higashi Hongan-ji and Sanjusangen-do from here.From£51

Kawaramachi Kyoto|1.69km from city center
Before coming to Japan, we expected the room here to be very small based on the photos. However, upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised — the room was actually larger than standard hotel rooms in Japan. We could easily open two large suitcases and still move around. The bathroom was also more spacious than it appeared in the pictures.
The interior, rooms, and overall atmosphere of the hotel are pleasant and cheerful. The location is very convenient for getting to major attractions around Kyoto.
The only drawback was the reception staff. At times they seemed a bit confused and not very welcoming, which was different from the level of hospitality we usually experienced in Japan.
Overall, it is a nice hotel and very good value for money.From£23

This stay was absolutely fantastic! From the moment I stepped into the hotel, I felt incredibly well taken care of.
Location: The hotel's location is superb, extremely convenient for transportation. It's very close to both the subway and bus stations, making it easy to get to various attractions and shopping areas. The surroundings are also quiet, so I had a great night's rest.
Room Facilities: The room was even more spacious and cleaner than I expected! The bedding was soft and comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. The bathroom had a wet/dry separation, plenty of hot water, and the toiletries were of high quality. The free Wi-Fi was fast, making both work and entertainment very smooth.From£49

I am from Yangzhou, Jiangsu. Although Yangzhou is a garden city, there are many such style escape hotels in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, Hongxi Noya of Hoshino Group is definitely worth living. The overall health is very good, the facilities are well maintained and there is no musty smell. That is, all the windows can be wiped clean. This time I checked in in the evening. When I took a taxi, I saw the sunset of Lushan, which was a value-added item. The reception staff was very polite and welcoming. At night, the girl was invited to drive us to the hotel entrance. This road was too standard, almost standing on the mountain, and there was a feeling of adventure. When I checked out, I felt the ship of Hoshino. By the way, I recommend the dyeing workshop and Zhai Pavilion are diagonally opposite. If you like the scenery, it is worth seeing.SOLD OUT

1. The hotel is located on the edge of the Kamo River, quiet in the bustling city. It is within a 5-minute walk from the subway station and the bus station, and the location is quite advantageous. Convenience stores and restaurants are all available nearby
2. The room is very clean, and the facilities such as bathing are particularly convenient. The deodorant in the room is available, as well as razors and nail clippers. But the bed is obviously soft, and if you have a bad waist, you may have back pain when sleeping.
3. The breakfast was reserved for one day, and the taste was mediocre. If you eat it every day, you will definitely get tired of it
4. The overall service is very online, and they will help answer questions and help make restaurant reservations in Japanese, but some front desk receptionists are not very enthusiasticFrom£103

Hotel ALa in Kyoto was a delightful surprise during my trip. The pictures made it look quite ordinary, but upon checking in, I found it to be understated yet elegant. The hotel is conveniently located near the station, and there's a 7-Eleven right across the street with a great selection of beers. The miniature dry landscape gardens (Karesansui) on each floor were a pleasure to look at, and the natural hot spring, 'Gokou no Yu', was incredibly relaxing and free for guests to use. My room even had a small window view that was absolutely stunning when I opened the curtains in the morning.
I highly recommend the sukiyaki at the hotel; the beef was tender and delicious, and the portion was generous. A lovely staff member even helped serve it, and the accompanying fruit was surprisingly good. I stayed for three nights, slept comfortably, and had a wonderful time. Many thanks to the entire hotel team; their hard work made my sightseeing experience even more enjoyable.From£44

Kawaramachi Kyoto|0.93km from city center
The location is superb, right on Shijo Street, making it incredibly convenient for accessing the train station and department stores like Takashimaya and Daimaru. There are also many decent izakayas nearby, but I'd recommend booking in advance if you can. As a first-timer, I didn't realize this and missed out on a yakitori spot I had hoped to visit.
The hotel offers self-service disposable amenities like toothbrushes and toothpaste, and they even provide Sekkisei brand toner.
There's a free public bath on site, which was incredibly relaxing after a long day of sightseeing. Plus, depending on the length of your stay, you receive coins that can be exchanged for a complimentary drink (beer/wine, etc.), which is a fantastic perk for anyone who enjoys a tipple.
Luggage storage is available with password-protected lockers, which is a really thoughtful and convenient feature.
My only two minor drawbacks were: firstly, the rooms are quite small (I stayed in a 16 sqm room), meaning two suitcases couldn't be fully opened at the same time. Secondly, the soundproofing isn't great. If you're sensitive to noise, I'd suggest asking the staff for a room not facing the street.
Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay.From£38

This hotel was recommended by a friend, and even though it's a 4-star, it's far better than some 5-star establishments.
Location: Excellent. It's close to the subway and shopping malls, with various major brands right across the street. It's also near Kiyomizu-dera Temple, just a few minutes by taxi, making it perfect for getting an early start during autumn foliage season.
Facilities: Well-equipped. It boasts two rooftop onsen baths, one indoor and one outdoor. The lobby offers complimentary drinks, coffee, and ice, available for self-service at any time.
Cleanliness: Spotless.
Environment: Very good. The rooms have a lovely Japanese style, though they are a bit small.

The location was great, close to shops, restaurants, night life, blah blah blah. Typical Japanese hotel experience: tiny room, 100% plastic bathroom, pick up your pillow, pjs, amenities in the lobby…

Kawaramachi Kyoto|1.01km from city center
The room size was barely adequate. The idea of having a separate vanity, shower, and toilet was good in theory, but the design was flawed, making it very inconvenient to place toiletries. The floor had a strange odor—neither pleasant nor foul—I couldn't tell if it was from floor polish or something else. I initially thought it was the smell from my own feet after a long day of walking.
The hotel claims to be eco-friendly, so many toiletries weren't provided, likely because there simply wasn't enough space. The service was mediocre; they didn't even replenish the bottled water when cleaning the room on the second day. After visiting several cities, I've come to realize that it's better to choose established hotels for good service and experience. Design-oriented hotels often look good but aren't practical.
The biggest advantage of this hotel is its excellent location with convenient transportation access. Shopping is extremely convenient, with Takashimaya right next door and plenty of other places to shop and many restaurants. Of course, the foot traffic is enormous, and the street can be noisy at night, so those with light sleep should think twice before booking.From£106

The location is superb, right by Kyoto Station and just a two-minute walk from the exit. As a designer hotel, it certainly met expectations; the staff's strong service-mindedness made for a very comfortable stay. However, the lack of basic amenities such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shower caps, and cotton pads was a letdown. For a supposed five-star hotel, I found this to be incredibly cheap. The rooms are decent. There's a communal bath, which is kind of like a hot spring, though the water is just regular tap water – it was clean and hygienic. On the second floor, there's a ping-pong table, an all-you-can-drink bar, and a small kids' play area. It feels like a friendly little community. The staff are all polite and attentive.
There's an aquarium very close by, and the hotel has a back entrance for direct access. We didn't realize this until we walked all the way around in the rain!

The hotel provides complimentary afternoon tea from 3 PM to 4:40 PM, and the Häagen-Dazs ice cream was delicious. Free alcoholic beverages are also available in the evening.
For consecutive stays, room cleaning needs to be requested by 9 AM at the latest. This policy takes a bit of getting used to.
The garden downstairs is charming. Elevator access is key-card controlled, and the rooms offered complimentary movies for viewing. While the selection wasn't huge, there were definitely a few enjoyable options.

This is a boutique B&B with only a few rooms. It is located in a residential area with a one-way street, so there are no taxis at the door. You have to walk to the main road. Taxis will not know that this hotel has no lunge. There is only one waiter on duty and no service at all. I live in a long and narrow area. The false window on the front of the room type opens to the side and smells of oil smoke from the next building. The decoration is exquisite and very new. The best reviews. There is no odor. The bathroom is very good and the towels are soft. The hair dryer is 200 yuan. The wind is too small and the long hair is too broken. The Western breakfast is sent to the room but the quality is It is extremely ordinary. No matter how good the reviews of this type of hotel are, I will not choose Okura in the off-season. It is 37 square meters. At this price, the service is respectful and the facilities are complete. How can a small store like this compare?From£88

The hotel is conveniently located very close to Kyoto Station, and they even offer a thoughtful shuttle service to and from the station. The facilities are excellent, with a grand and opulent lobby, and the front desk staff provide smiling service, including Chinese-speaking staff, which was a very warm and welcome touch. The rooms are well-equipped, comfortable, spacious, and bright. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. There are shopping malls and supermarkets nearby, making it easy to get around and find plenty of shopping and dining options. The autumn leaves are beautiful right now, and Ctrip offered a great price.From£46

Hotel Granvia's location is absolutely fantastic! It's right on the second floor, accessible by elevator on the left once you enter the main entrance of Osaka Station. Plus, there are several other entrances, making it incredibly convenient to get anywhere. Even just around the hotel, there's so much to explore. Inside the station, you'll find both Isetan and Porta shopping malls. The ramen at Ramen Street on Isetan's 10th floor is also delicious – I recommend the tantanmen; it's spicy and incredibly satisfying! When checking out, I bought a Hello Kitty Haruka e-ticket directly on Klook, and I could just scan my phone to enter and exit. The entrance is also right downstairs from the hotel, directly opposite the Kyoto Station entrance. If it's your first time visiting Kyoto, I highly recommend staying at Hotel Granvia.From£91

Highly Recommended Stay in Kyoto
I would like to strongly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Kyoto. The staff demonstrate exceptional professionalism and hospitality.
In particular, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Miss Yuki, who assisted us with our check-in and kindly introduced many wonderful sightseeing spots and activities in Kyoto, as well as to Miss Tsai, a ********* staff member who supported us during check-out with great warmth and care. Their thoughtful service truly reflects the welcoming spirit of Kyoto and the hotel’s commitment to excellence.
I am genuinely impressed by the quality of the team members who bring guests happiness and satisfaction through their dedication. They truly deserve recognition and applause for their outstanding service.
Our two-night stay was far too short, and we are already looking forward to returning in the near future.From£128

I stayed over the weekend, paying 1000 RMB for a room with breakfast, and honestly, the value for money was terrible. It was double the price of a weekday stay. The room's decor felt dated, and despite being spacious, it had a strong guesthouse vibe that really didn't live up to its five-star luxury hotel status. Breakfast was just average, with a limited selection and particularly sparse fruit options.From£37

This is a great hotel. The rooms in Kyoto are almost full during the Dragon Boat Festival. The price is the same as usual. The room is fully equipped. There is a box on the desk where you can put your personal belongings (just for my jewelry), a capsule coffee machine, a safe, and comfortable pajamas. It's not a towel-like bathrobe, which is great. The hygiene is very good, the bathroom is clean, and the toiletries are complete. The service is also great! All the pictures are here, please see them for yourself.From£47

We chose a large corner room with windows on both sides. The hotel building has a history of more than 200 years. The location is great. It is right at the entrance of Kiyomizu Temple Commercial Street. It is quiet in the bustling city. The hotel is very quiet and elegant, with high-end decoration, complete facilities and excellent service!
Breakfast is served in a library-style restaurant, which is very special. I highly recommend Japanese breakfast. Everyone thinks it is high-end Japanese cuisine when they post it on WeChat Moments. There are also vegetarian and children's meal options for breakfast. I also strongly recommend the window seat in the executive lounge. Drink Japanese tea or Japanese whiskey in the afternoon and look at the quaint buildings outside. It is worth the effort!From£401

|2.56km from city centerThe kids absolutely loved it! You can also walk to Higashi Hongan-ji and Sanjusangen-do from here.

I am Korean. I could speak Japanese, so there was no major inconvenience.
Advantages:
1. Price / The price of high-end hot spring ryokans is too expensive, but I think this is a good price assuming you are going with friends.
2. Room / This is a tatami room that is clean and has a uniquely Japanese cozy feel.
Because it was in the mountains, the air was good and there wasn't much dust.
3. Food / Dinner was a soybean paste nabe base pot dish.
The ingredients are fresh and it's fun to add them yourself. The quantity is sufficient and delicious.
4. Hot spring / Can be used both in the evening and in the morning.
The evening and morning have different hot spring design themes. It is divided into rock hot spring theme and wooden hot spring theme.
disadvantage:
1. Location / If you are thinking about this place, it should be the first thing you think about. Route 17, which can be taken from Kyoto Station (travel time more than 1 hour), runs every 30 minutes, and because it is so deep in the mountains, radio waves are not good. If you go in winter, it gets dark quickly. Instead, if you arrive at the Ohara stop and call the accommodation, they will drive to pick you up.
2. There is no toilet in the room/room. Fortunately, there is a bathroom at the end of the hallway when you leave the room, so it's not far, and it's very clean for a public bathroom.
There is no refrigerator.
Additional information
Please note that there is no convenience store nearby and there is no refrigerator in the room.
The information board at the front desk is also in English.
Dinner reservations are available until 18:30.
Breakfast requests are available until 08:30.
When moving to your accommodation, get off at Ohara stop and call the accommodation, and they will come to pick you up.
When checking out, a shuttle is dropped off at Ohara stop every 30 minutes from 08:00 to 10:00 (please inform the front desk when using).
Towels are not refilled per night, so you have to dry them in your room (not sure if you stay for more than 1 night)
At dinner, only food is provided and alcohol is available at an additional charge.
You must pay the hot spring tax when checking out. 350 yen per person.
The building is located in the mountains and has a very quiet atmosphere, so even if you make a little noise, you can hear everything in the hallway (not recommended if you are going for a party).

|1.81km from city centerThe location is fantastic, not far from Nanzen-ji Temple. The service is warm and attentive, and the hotel environment is superb, especially the beautiful gardens and the healing views from the rooftop. The room is spacious, with new and complete facilities. The toiletries exceeded my expectations, and the Huading hot spring bath experience was excellent. The hotel's shuttle bus service is very thoughtful, offering rides to the station, Sanjo, and Shijo. It truly lives up to its reputation as a long-standing national guesthouse. I will definitely choose this hotel again next time I visit Kyoto!
