This was our favourite hotel from our whole trip (Tokyo,Kyoto, Osaka). It felt traditional but modern and very clean with no shoes allowed inside. It was great having a separate space for the parents in the room and it came complete with all the amenities. It’s close to the station, onsen and the best massage chair we’ve ever used on site to relax after a full day of exploring and had unlimited icecream/ yakult/ drinks plus ramen too. Will definitely book this again for future trips.

This hotel offers incredible value for money! I saw some reviews mentioning no windows, but I found that if you pull back the curtain behind the bed, there's a window that allows for ventilation! The location is excellent, with a bus stop right downstairs and the subway not far. It's very close to Sanjusangen-do Temple and convenient for visiting Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine! The hotel is also connected to a 7-Eleven, making it super easy to grab anything you need. In the common areas, there's hot water and a microwave available, and a simple breakfast is provided in the mornings. There were a lot of foreign guests, and the front desk staff spoke good English, giving it a vibe similar to the youth hostels I've stayed at in Europe. I went on a weekday and paid less than 200 for a single room. I didn't have high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised – the decor and details are adorable! Highly recommend! I'd definitely come back if I have the chance!

This hotel is super convenient, right at the Hachijo East Exit of Kintetsu Kyoto Station – just take the escalator down and you're there. There's an indoor shopping street right outside, making it really easy to grab a bite or do some shopping. Plus, a large AEON mall is just a short walk from the station. The hotel service is excellent, and they even offer complimentary afternoon tea and coffee in the restaurant.

I am from Yangzhou, Jiangsu. Although Yangzhou is a garden city, there are many such style escape hotels in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, Hongxi Noya of Hoshino Group is definitely worth living. The overall health is very good, the facilities are well maintained and there is no musty smell. That is, all the windows can be wiped clean. This time I checked in in the evening. When I took a taxi, I saw the sunset of Lushan, which was a value-added item. The reception staff was very polite and welcoming. At night, the girl was invited to drive us to the hotel entrance. This road was too standard, almost standing on the mountain, and there was a feeling of adventure. When I checked out, I felt the ship of Hoshino. By the way, I recommend the dyeing workshop and Zhai Pavilion are diagonally opposite. If you like the scenery, it is worth seeing.

Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Station: During autumn, they have a display in the lobby showing the fall foliage status of several temples, along with the day's weather. The rooms are decent, and it's not too far from Kyoto Station, but there's no public bath. You can pick up complimentary toiletries by the elevators. Staff greetings are a hit or miss. The biggest downside is breakfast; it's quite poor compared to other Mitsui hotels, with limited choices and average taste.

1. The hotel is located on the edge of the Kamo River, quiet in the bustling city. It is within a 5-minute walk from the subway station and the bus station, and the location is quite advantageous. Convenience stores and restaurants are all available nearby 2. The room is very clean, and the facilities such as bathing are particularly convenient. The deodorant in the room is available, as well as razors and nail clippers. But the bed is obviously soft, and if you have a bad waist, you may have back pain when sleeping. 3. The breakfast was reserved for one day, and the taste was mediocre. If you eat it every day, you will definitely get tired of it 4. The overall service is very online, and they will help answer questions and help make restaurant reservations in Japanese, but some front desk receptionists are not very enthusiastic

Nijo Castle is within walking distance. The hotel entrance and lobby are spacious and clean. Breakfast is a unique Japanese bento box style. There's a Lawson convenience store and a shopping street right next door, with plenty of restaurants. The hotel's biggest highlight is the extensive manga collection; you can borrow up to 20 volumes to read in your room. It's truly enjoyable!

【Highly Recommended, Will Rebook!】 I rarely write hotel reviews, but this is a gem! Not only is the location fantastic and the price relatively affordable, but the service is a win-win, making it a 'home away from home' where you can not only stay comfortably but also enjoy the services freely. Service: [Love] Complimentary Bar Drinks (one per person per day) - See photo. Upon check-in, we received a small purple pouch filled with tokens. These could be used at the self-service bar on the 2nd floor for various wines, beers, or grape juice. After a day of exploring, my travel companions and I gathered in the spacious lounge area of the bar. We chatted, sipped drinks, and munched on snacks – it was such a relaxing and sweet end to our day. It's completely self-service, which feels very freeing, with no pressure to spend more. However, if needed, there's also a server available for more extensive food and beverage service. Win-win! [Love] Free Self-Service Luggage Storage. We plan to use this on our last day. Just by looking, the space is large, well-organized, and the self-storage system is very clear. It's convenient and comfortable for us, and the hotel doesn't need to specially assign staff. Win-win! [Love] Three Room Service Options. By default daily: bottled water replenishment, trash disposal, and towel change. Whiteboard 'Make Up the Room' sign on the door: full bed making and tidying. Blackboard 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door. Honestly, do you know? Last year, I stayed at a more expensive hotel in Tokyo that didn't even default to trash disposal daily; we had to specifically ask for it. This hotel's approach is much more sensible. Room Size: The room isn't huge, but the integrated bathroom is quite spacious, which is considered large for Japan. The three-bed layout is well-designed. We could open three suitcases, take out our belongings, store two large cases in the closet, and I even had enough space in the aisle to do yoga every morning. The location is a game-changer – super convenient! All sorts of attractions, famous shops, restaurants, and supermarkets are within walking distance. It's incredibly sweet!

What a pleasant surprise this hotel was! The attention to detail is truly exceptional, and the service is incredibly warm and welcoming. The hotel's cleanliness is impeccable. They also have a rooftop open-air bar where you can soak your feet while enjoying the scenery and a drink – it's absolutely wonderful, especially in the dead of winter. Plus, there's an outdoor hot spring, which is very clean and offers great views. They provide complimentary coffee, matcha, hot chocolate, sparkling drinks, and cold beverages, all available for unlimited consumption every day. I highly recommend the hot chocolate with ice cubes; it's so rich and delicious. The hotel's location is superb. Takashimaya is right outside, and there are tons of great restaurants nearby. It's also very close to all the major attractions. Aside from the room being a bit small, everything else was absolutely perfect. I'll definitely choose to stay here again whenever I visit Kyoto.

The hotel is nested in a quiet corner, within walking distance of Sagaogurayama Tabuchiyamacho. Im however a bit disappointed with the limited facilites it offered when compared to the price we paid. We stayed in the Tsukinone Twin Room which is on the third floor of the building. The view is pleasant. The room is of decent size. Yet there were no public onsens. We need to pay YEN5000 for 45 minutes and there are only 2 private onsens. For more luxurious rooms with private onsen, the one I visited was on the ground level with no views as it were by the pathway to the reception , separated by wooden planks. We paid around Yen5000 for the breakfast in the hotel, Both western and japanese breakfasts were offered. We tried both. It is of standard. The 4 different juices presented on the top of the bento box was impressive. The vaccinity is pleasant. We could walk to the train station, the tourist rown area , the nearby parks and the world heritage sites. Nice area .

The most beautiful secret garden, the whole vibe is quiet and meditative. Although the hotel isn't huge, it has a strong wild, mountaintop feel, and the air is incredibly fresh. The service is absolutely exceptional. From breakfast and afternoon tea/wine to the matcha time at the Tea House, everyone patiently explains each ingredient. I particularly recommend dinner at the Aman restaurant; each chef has a unique touch and puts their heart into every dish. It's a perfect blend of culinary excellence and service spirit.

Thanks to the hotel for giving this 'maple leaf refugee' an unforgettable memory! The hotel's location is quite good, and watching the sunset from the courtyard is truly beautiful. Perhaps because it was the off-season, the entire hotel felt very quiet, comfortable, and relaxing. The staff at reception were all very welcoming, and their attention to detail was excellent. Breakfast was relatively average, nothing special but perfectly adequate. The hot springs were quite comfortable, and not crowded at all. There are both indoor and outdoor options, and soaking in the outdoor springs when there's a big temperature difference is really pleasant. The only downside was that after a day of activities, I wanted to take a bath, but found a very noticeable hair from a previous guest in the bathtub that hadn't been cleaned. I contacted the front desk, and they sent someone up to clean it, which took about 20 minutes to resolve.

As is common for Japan, the rooms are quite compact, but this hotel boasts excellent facilities. They provide Pola brand toiletries, and everything felt spotlessly clean. A trip to Arashiyama with my elderly mother during the spring cherry blossom season. It had been a while since I had stayed at a traditional inn. We stayed here for one night. It had a hot spring, a good location, and included dinner and breakfast. The food was delicious. - Bamboo shoot rice and firefly squid tempura for dinner... The portions were large, but it was a pain to finish it all at the end, which was disappointing, even though it was delicious. - The breakfast was perfect in both quantity and quality. The facilities: - The guest rooms are old, but well kept. - The open-air bath on the top floor was pleasant. I think the open-air bath needs to be cleaned and maintained a little better. The inn's staff are close to each other, so you can get a glimpse of how well they work. I hope that the inn will continue to be an easy place to work for both the staff who have been contributing for many years and the new staff. It was an inn that I would like to stay at again. (Next time, I might skip lunch just to have dinner.) Thank you very much for this opportunity.

Perfect, if you like to experience Kyoto's classical culture and accommodation\service, this is the place. One night and two meals with thoughtful service. There is a hot spring, although it is a public hot spring, but because there are few rooms, there are almost no other people in the hot spring every time. It is very close to Kamogawa, Gojo, and Sanjusangendo. The hotel will help you call a taxi when you go out. It is perfect in all aspects, the only drawback is that it is difficult to book.

The biggest advantage of Hotel Gajoen Tokyo is definitely its location. Beyond its prime spot in the city center, there's a direct walkway from the hotel's third floor straight to Takashimaya. You can walk along the green passage into the mall, turn a corner, and be at Din Tai Fung – it's incredibly convenient. This stay, I specifically booked a corner room to experience the lounge. The room was spacious, and the bathroom had a great four-piece layout. The large windows let in plenty of light, and catching a glimpse of the beautiful Higashiyama scenery in the distance was a pleasant surprise. The lounge is also on the third floor, so after browsing Takashimaya, it was lovely to just tap my card, go in, and relax with a drink. The breakfast selection wasn't huge, but most items were high quality. I ate there for three days and didn't get bored. The ham, salmon, and homemade yogurt sauce were all excellent, and the latte was delicious too. Furthermore, the cleanliness of this popular hotel exceeded my expectations. Daily housekeeping was impeccable, and they didn't compromise on standards under the guise of being eco-friendly, which I really appreciated. Huge thanks to the staff.

Superb experience in Nohga. Everything here has been curated very carefully, you can tell the people or group behind this whole hotel concept really put in so much thought for their guests. Absolutely loved my entire stay here. I eat breakfast at their bakery every morning. Love their customisable bagels, mortadella sandwich, salted bun and cinnamon mochi donut. Chocolate mochi donut was a little too sweet. Americano and matcha latte were great. Thoroughly enjoyed their rooftop bar every night (opens till 12am). Awesome vibes, very romantic atmosphere. Staff are sweet, gives heat packs and blankets to keep us warm. Warm cocktails are a must during winters. You can order any random cocktails and they all taste so good. The distance from the train station to this hotel is quite a distance but I think the overall experience you get in this hotel makes the walk a worthwhile one. The rooms feature a modern design with wooden furniture, and the hotel environment is very pleasant. It feels very vibrant, suitable for both leisure and business travelers. The soundproofing in the rooms is excellent, and the bedding is extremely comfortable. Potel Umokoji Kyoto redefines what a hotel offers its guests. Firstly, the location is unique, an easy 5 min walk from the station ( Umokoji Kyotonishi) and 3 min train ride to the center of Kyoto. Yet this convenience is coupled with its location adjoining a large wooded park which some guest rooms overlook - a special and calm outlook right in the city centre. Rooms are large by Japan standards and both the Japanese style rooms ( super comfy ) and more traditional Western styled rooms offer a Scandanavian/ Japanese decor style which is both modern and uncluttered. In addition, guest services on offer include complementary DIY fresh brewed coffee and in the evenings, complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks . Can be taken either to your room with balcony overlooking parklands or in the guest book or music library, both offering a calm respite from a sometimes frenetic Kyoto CBD. Unique, special and largely overlooked by tourist group bookings, the Potel Umokoji manages to offer the ambience and guest experiences that many mass tourism venues have lost. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

I stayed here 10 years ago. The hotel looked exactly the same. It is a little bit on the old school side, but everything is clean and impeccable. The first day I arrived I had a stomach issue and the hotel was really kind and helped send fresh ginger tea up to my room and requested. They went out out of their way to find me fresh ginger. The second day I strained my back from lifting heavy luggage. It's incredibly convenient for Eikando, Philosopher's Path, Ginkakuji, Honen-in, Anrakuji, Shinnyodo, Eishoin, Chion-in, and Shoren-in – absolutely the best choice for autumn leaf viewing. The hotel is small yet exquisite, offering excellent tea sets and tea. It boasts a beautiful garden shared with Okazaki Shrine's別邸 (detached residence). The hotel facilities are also good (though unfortunately, no buckwheat pillows, and the air conditioning temperature was a bit uncomfortable and hard to adjust). The lounge has a nice view, serving only alcohol, coffee, and tea. I ordered a chestnut cake. The restaurant service was polite but lacked warmth. Stayed 4 nights at Celestine with my mom in a Twin Room. We chose this hotel due to it's location in Gion - and after walking around Kyoto and seeing other areas, we are happy to have chosen Gion. The early morning walks and after-sunset walks are magical in this area and we did them every day. Hotel staff are great - always willing to help. They assisted us with checking availability of tea ceremonies and restaurants. Public bath is great - I used it nightly. Very warm, very peaceful and discrete. A highlight. Breakfast was another reason we chose Celestine - great reviews online. Most places in Kyoto open 10/11am, some even at midday. Finding breakfast is difficult, unless you're happy to eat 7-eleven. Breakfast was varied and delicious. The tempura was fantastic. Salmon, miso, salads, yoghurt, honey, fruits, pumpkin, broccoli, eggs, pastries, sausages, bacon, mini toasts with toppings, coffee, mixed juices. Worth it to have the convenience of breakfast included, especially with early mornings, the breakfast starts at 6.30am. Only downside was the harsh lighting overhead - directly in eyes and over faces. Lighting needs to be indirect/redirected for it to be enjoyable and calming. If you're a morning matcha-needing person, Kafe Coffee is a 7 minute walk away - they open at 7am with amazing matcha. From the hotel, we walked mornings and evenings. and proximity to Kiyomizu-dera was a few minute walk away. Seeing the temples and winding streets almost exclusively before and after crowds was highly valued. Concierge services and taxi assistance is needed in Kyoto - easy to get assistance with at Celestine. Aesthetically, the hotel tends to be quite dark. It's a 'hushed' tone more than a peaceful one. Skews more towards business hotel than holiday retreat - materials, lighting, furniture. Personal insight. Hotel beds were comfortable enough and pillows typical Japanese small pillows - oh what we would pay for oversized soft pillows for a good sleep :) The shower bath area would be the primary drawback - dark black plastic is more masculine than peaceful. Room TV was tiny - didn't expect to comment on the TV as we don't typically watch it but after 25,000 steps during the day, you want to put a movie on and zone out. For an overwhelmingly foreign clientele, all electronic fixtures like remote, AC are in Japanese. TV has an English menu when you can navigate to it, however there are only local channels with one CNN channel. Movie channel, like other hotels, would be most welcome. Celestine is recommended for location in Gion. The upside is proximity to Kiyomizu Dera and gion streets. Very clean. Great breakfast. Wonderful staff. Public bath a highlight.

My wife and I booked the Classic Room for 3 nights in April 2025. We thought this was one of the best hotels we stayed at during our trip. From the moment you enter the hotel, you are welcomed by the hotel staff. You leave your bags with them and you walk up to a separate reception area where you are seated and offered tea and macarons. Check in is conducted while you sip your tea. After you get your keys, you go up to your room and your luggage bags are already there. We were very impressed by the reception. The room itself is fairly sizeable and offers a cabinet of Fauchon snacks. We had a good view of the alley behind the hotel that was lined with Sakura trees. We could also see the mountains in the distance. The location of the hotel is also great. It is located about a 5-10 minutes walk from downtown Kyoto and about a 5 minutes walk to Kiyomizu-gojo station. We also had breakfast which included a free flow selection of bread and pastries like French croissant, baguette and brioche. You also get a fruit plate, salad, and omelette. If you stay for more than 1 night, you also get a premium breakfast menu for your 2nd night onwards. We will definitely return to this hotel the next time we are in Kyoto.

Great customer service. Room was very spacious and comfortable. I loved the room provide the matcha green tea ceremony experience. The location is not ideal but the shuttle service helps a lot. It would be more helpful if they post the shuttle service on their website. I found the shuttle info via guest reviews. Overall, we had a great time staying this hotel. I would love to come back again.

Exquisite service, one of the best I have ever experienced, even better than Aman Tokyo, every stuff try to satisfy our demand the best they can, crazy part is about 50% stuff memorized my name, shows how much they cared about the customer. They bow when they see you and only stop bowing after you went so far that you can’t see them anymore. I tried to order room 701 but it was full but room 606 is still fantastic. However the breakfast is underwhelming, the food is limited, not even half as good as intercontinental in Los Angeles which is a huge letdown since this is the best Park Hyatt in my opinion.

Five-star recommendation, the owner of the homestay is a very kind and friendly couple, suitable for friends who travel alone. Facilities: There are two floors in total, with two bathrooms and two toilets. Most of the time, there is no need to queue. There are also many free snacks to eat. The walls are decorated with banknotes, coins from various countries, and hand-painted by guests. Hygiene: The sanitation is cleaned every morning, and the public areas are very clean. Environment: There is a small Japanese courtyard, which is beautiful on rainy days. The room is very warm. The location is not as convenient as Sijo, but it is okay to have buses around. Service: This is important to say that the boss is really nice. I received a hand-painted card with my name on it the next morning. It was really touching to experience this warmth in a foreign country. Every day when I come back from outside, I will hear ”Welcome back” and see two smiling faces. My roommates have always been Chinese, and it is also a different experience to communicate with different friends every day. I left here today and changed my residence and felt a little uncomfortable. Finally, I wish mama and papa good health and happiness.

The location is super convenient, less than a 5-minute walk from Nippori Station. The room was clean and practical, though a bit small. Self-service laundry requires coins or a card. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It's a great hotel, highly recommended for those who prioritize convenient transportation. There are also plenty of good restaurants and convenience stores nearby for dining and shopping.

Although it was short, I loved my stay here. Had great quality of sleep. Good base for Kyoto, near enough to key locations, but expect a lot of walking unless you use the bus. Nearest station is Kyoto Kawaramachi which is great for day drips just outside central Kyoto and if you are coming from Osaka or Kansai airport - see my tips below. Pros: great bathroom and toiletries, good water pressure and temperature, smart toilet, TV with streaming services, fridge, desk/stool, coat hooks (handy for winter time), semi-full length mirror, luggage rack, various lights to adjust to your preference, very clean, super comfortable firm mattress and pillows, good soundproofing for light sleepers, great air conditioning (room warms up pretty quickly in the winter), you can also open the windows which is nice, felt very safe as a solo female, can ask for more water bottles in reception, lift was never crowded, outlets next to bed, has luggage storage if you need, near the river and traditional streets for scenic strolls, close to bus stop, family mart otw from station for late night snacks. Cons: can hear police cars or cars with loud engines at night sometimes but not frequent, walking from the station with a suitcase was a bit longer than expected, my double room was a bit cramped for opening suitcase (could not open the front or bathroom doors fully to avoid hitting my suitcase) and I am one person (two suitcases would fit but you wouldn't be able to walk around the bed properly). Tips: If you are coming from Kansai airport (KIX), I recommend you take the airport limousine to Namba (bought a return ticket since it is cheaper). It drops you outside JR Namba station, you can go inside to get to the metro station, follow signs for the red Midosuji Line. Board the train to Umeda. Stay inside the station and follow signs for Osaka-Umeda or the brown Hankyu-Kyoto line. This line goes directly to Kyoto Kawaramachi station. When stations, always look for the lift signs if you have luggages. I think I took the lift closest to Exit 4, and it brings you up to a department store. You kinda have to walk through and get out. If you walk out the front entrance, there are a few steps, but if you go to the side doors, it has a slope to avoid carrying suitcases. It's a straight walk from the station. Unless you are doing day trips, Kyoto city buses are a lot better mode of transport in my opinion.

Having stayed in many capsule hotels, this one offered the best experience by far. It has a large public bath and individual shower rooms, as well as a common lounge. Plus, there's a free lactic acid drink served in the afternoon. Most other hotels require guests to check out by 10 AM, but this one has no such strict rule, allowing residents to return to the hotel for a rest during midday, which makes traveling much more convenient and flexible. There's also a supermarket and duty-free shop nearby, which is very handy. The only downside is that the transportation isn't as convenient as I'd hoped. While it's easy to get there by bus, the bus frequency is quite low, and if you take the subway, it's at least a 15-minute walk. I'd definitely choose this chain of capsule hotels again!

Ryokan hosted by 3 elderly ladies. Peaceful, pleasant stay. The room is traditional tatami and futon - even in early spring, room was warm with heater and clean, futon was thick and comfortable. Room big and well furnished, even has a small table for ocha and okashi. Toilet was my favourite - separate toilet and bathing room, comes with tub to soak in like in the old time jap dramas. Hot water and strong. Location convenient near all impt attractions, but also not too near to be hectic and crowded. Loved the stay!

Cute place to stay in a spacious mixed dorm. The dorm was well designed with lockers and lots of small shelves next to the bed plus a sink in the room. Bed was a little hard but not terrible. Found the self check-in process very convenient and clearly explained, you have to pay city tax and any extra charges separately before check-out, which you can do online with a qr code or cash if you have the exact amount. Nice to experience a more traditional building in Kyoto. The free rice porridge and teas and coffee was a great bonus. Plenty of convenience shops nearby and right near Kyoto Station. Overall a really relaxing and cosy place to stay!
