Discovered a hidden gem in Lijiang Old Town!
Pushing open the heavy wooden gate of Muyuntang, the hustle and bustle of the outside world instantly faded away. The small courtyard was tranquil and peaceful, with dogs lazily lounging in the sun. The room was a delightful surprise! It perfectly blended rustic ethnic charm with modern comforts, and the bed linens were incredibly soft.
But my absolute favorite was the private balcony with its swing chair, offering stunning views of the old town's layered rooftops and distant mountains. The sunset views from there were simply unforgettable!
The guesthouse service was also incredibly attentive. Staff helped with our luggage to the room, and breakfast was provided, ensuring we were well-fueled for a day of exploring the Old Town.
The location is superb too; tucked away in an alley, it guaranteed a peaceful night's sleep, yet it's just a short walk to Sifang Street. I truly found a gem this time, and it perfectly delivered on the dream of 'stepping out into vibrancy, and stepping in to serenity.' Wonderful first time trip to Yunnan.
The inn is clean and have all the amenities I need. The staff are very friendly and helpful, speedy assistance when I request for something. The breakfast mixian is yummy. The lady boss provides excellent service. She helped to book all my major transportation to n fro airport, visits to the snow mountain and musical play and even the purchase of tickets. She'll share info of where are the places worth going in Lijiang ancient city. The various shops I went, to take cultural costumes photo and purchase of silver accessories and to eat are recommended by her as well. She even helped me to book the mini tour for my shangri-la trip in between. You can basically ask her anything you need advise for travel in Yunnan. The biggest highlight of this trip was definitely this guesthouse! The location is unbeatable – tucked away in a quiet alley, offering peace and tranquility, yet just a pleasant 5-minute walk to the north gate of Shuhe, making it incredibly convenient for getting around by taxi. On the afternoon of my arrival, the sunlight streaming through the leaves into the glass house was absolutely breathtaking, truly a sight to behold. A white cat rubbed against me, and the guesthouse even puts peanuts on the outdoor tables, so if you're lucky, you might spot some sneaky squirrels.
What I want to praise most are the staff. They added me on WeChat beforehand and recommended some great activities. Everyone seemed genuinely passionate about their work. They even gave me a tour of their meticulously cultivated herb garden, and the salads made with their freshly picked, home-grown vegetables truly lived up to their reputation.
Since it's an old house, I didn't have high expectations for the room, but the bathroom was impressively clean, and the amenities were excellent. The only minor drawback is that the bathroom door doesn't seal perfectly, so after a long shower, a small puddle of water would form near the sink area. I stayed at a hotel in town, and it was a great experience. The location was perfect — close to everything you might need like shops, restaurants, and public transport. Very convenient if you want to explore the area without going far.
The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
If you're Muslim, it's also easy to find halal restaurants nearby, which made my stay even more comfortable.

First, some praise:
① Compared to the quadruple rooms in other hostels I've stayed in, this one is more spacious and the hygiene is good.
② The location, tucked away in an alley off the main road, makes it quiet enough if there's no one being noisy.
In my opinion, the shortcomings are:
① The room truly has nothing in it – no disposable toiletries whatsoever. While it does make it look tidy, it's quite bare.
② The hot water flow in the private bathroom is a bit weak, lacking any real pressure.
③ The room door isn't soundproof, and the floor creaks loudly when walked on.

It truly exceeded my expectations. I usually stay in five-star hotels when traveling with children, considering their safety and hygiene. This time in Lijiang, I wanted to try a homestay, so I blindly booked two rooms for two adults and two children. The front desk was very considerate and upgraded the room. The room was very quiet, clean, and refreshing. Even someone with a nervous breakdown who usually requires a lot of sleep, slept very well. The staff was very friendly, bringing fish food to feed the children every morning and giving them two small fish gifts when we left. We also saw a baby squirrel in the courtyard! I was so happy! Service: The service was excellent. Throughout our stay, the staff were consistently friendly and helpful. They were very enthusiastic and gave great suggestions when we asked about getting to Yuhu Village and Baisha Ancient Town.

Great place to stay near Lijiang Ancient Town just a few meters away from the south gate. The host is helpful with our luggage carrying it upstairs.. thank you for that. Also, we get fresh and clean towels every day. Thank you! Recommended for people who love to stay near the old town. Easy walk, and easy to get DiDi as well.
Just one bad thing is that it can be a little loud and noicy with car honks in the early morning. Woke me up a few times shockingly because of that noise.

The housekeeper will get to know your itinerary and luggage information with you the day before departure, and will confirm the arrival time with you before departure. Environment: The B&B is located on the hillside opposite the north gate of Lijiang Ancient Town. It is very convenient to the ancient town and Heilongtan Park. You can directly see Yulong Snow Mountain from the lobby. The location is quiet in the bustling city, and the environment outside is very quiet when you sleep at night.
Facilities: The B&B has swimming pools, tea bars, laundry rooms and other facilities. The water bar, smart appliances, projection, bathtubs and other configurations in the room are also very comprehensive. You can enjoy the mountain view while taking a bath.
Service: The 1V1 housekeeper service provided by the B&B will give pertinent suggestions on where to go and what special food to eat. Breakfast provides two options of Chinese and Western food. If you're taking the train up the mountain, this hotel is just over 2 kilometers from the train station, making it incredibly convenient. This isn't my first time in Lijiang. I've always loved staying in the Old Town, but this time I chose a quiet spot. I was lucky to have chosen this hotel near Baisha. The hotel opened this year after renovations, and the rooms are incredibly soundproofed, with Marshall speakers. I'm a light sleeper, and it was so peaceful! The room amenities were fantastic. The toiletries were very tasteful and smelled delicious. The breakfast, with three options, was delicious, thoughtful, and excellent! Avoiding crowds and rush hour, this is definitely the right place for a vacation. I visited other rooms, all with private courtyards or terraces, offering views of the snow-capped mountains and plenty of privacy! I can't praise the service enough; it's so thoughtful, even down to the aromatherapy scents you can choose from in your room. It's truly soothing and relaxing here. During the Spring Festival, I went to Lijiang with my family, hoping to find a cost-effective hotel. This is an old five-star hotel, and it is generally good! The service is online. When I went out on the first day, I put the suitcase on the carpet. When I returned to the room at night, I found that the service lady had specially put a floor towel under the suitcase and left mints and a note.
The slippers and toothbrushes I asked for at night were also delivered quickly.

The hotel is really unique, with all two-story courtyard rooms. The decor is entirely in the style of the Tea Horse Road, from the layout of the courtyards to the rooms, the decorations, the water features, and the greenery – every detail shows the designer's thoughtfulness and professionalism. For someone used to concrete jungles, it's a visual delight and very relaxing here. I even saw a cute little cat in the courtyard! The hotel's animal-friendly policy is a big plus 💗. The rooms are quite spacious, and the windows can be fully opened, which I absolutely love as it's very airy (with screens for mosquito protection). The sofa is right by the window, with blue skies, white clouds, and lush green trees outside. Brewing a pot of tea there is incredibly pleasant~
Speakers and capsule coffee machines are all available, and the amenities are comprehensive. For breakfast, you can either have it at the hotel or enjoy the buffet breakfast at InterContinental.
Our guest relations manager, Patrick Lucian, was incredibly attentive, like an invisible personal butler, always ready to help! 😆 He contacted us by phone before check-in, upgraded our room type upon arrival, and arranged room 724 for us. This was special because it's the only second-floor room with a terrace, perfect for enjoying tea on the terrace 🍵 and convenient for my husband to smoke without disturbing anyone – absolutely brilliant! He also granted us a late check-out. Any request, big or small, a quick WeChat message was all it took. From makeup wipes and bath liners to arranging a car to the airport, we didn't have to worry about a thing. All the staff we met here were so warm and thoughtful; the male staff at the front desk were also very enthusiastic ❤️🔥 and considerate.
The complimentary travel photoshoot also exceeded our expectations; the photos turned out beautifully! Just a heads-up, any extra photos beyond the complimentary ones are at your own expense, so it's easy to go over budget! 😂

The hotel has well-trained and excellent service staff especially Ms Emma Bai who attended to us and was attentive to all our needs during our stay. Apart from the great service, the hotel’s breakfast was top notch and its good location afforded easy access to the famous Lijiang ancient city via its back gate.
Just two observations for the hotel’s consideration. One is related to the TV programmes. There are limited foreign channels and I could not watch all of them as the images on the channels would freeze and the volume became inaudible. This problem also affected a number of local Chinese channels as well.
Second, the toilet extractor in the room did not seem to be working. I did not raise these issues during my stay as we spent the majority of our time outside the hotel.
For future reference, it would be good if the rooms are checked before they are assigned. Other than these two issues, the overall stay at the hotel was near perfect. After arriving in Lijiang from Dali, I did some searching and found this guesthouse, which looked promising. Upon arrival, we discovered it's a beautifully traditional Naxi courtyard house. The room itself is very spacious, complete with a bathtub and a smart toilet. Outside, there are two lounge chairs where you can simply lie back, chat, and unwind – it was absolutely blissful! The landlady was incredibly warm and welcoming. She arranged a car to pick us up from the train station, and even organized a luggage cart at the Old Town entrance (as the cobblestone paths make it genuinely difficult to pull luggage). 2. There was a complete lack of coordination between departments. The front desk knew nothing about restaurant issues, the butler confirmed housekeeping for 12:00 PM, but the cleaning staff knocked at 11:00 AM. After staff took my luggage, the concierge had no idea where it was and told me to find it myself. After check-out, there were two large buses at the entrance with no one to guide guests. Individually, each department's work wasn't a big problem, but the inter-departmental information flow and transitions were completely broken.
3. On the last day, I ordered a bowl of wontons for room service at 11:00 AM. It never arrived by 12:00 PM check-out. I still don't know if it was made and not delivered or never made at all. This not only made me miss lunch but also wasted my remaining vouchers.

Room: Our three-person room was large, tastefully decorated, and very comfortable. There were two beds, a spacious bathroom (with a Dyson hairdryer I might add!), a work desk, and even a balcony. There was light housekeeping daily so our room was always clean. Since our room was on the second floor and there are no elevators, we were thankful for the owner's help in moving our luggage.
Amenities: The owners take great pride in the living space and it shows. From the perfectly manicured zen garden and water features that invite you to relax at any time of day, to the practical appliances - hot/cold water dispenser, laundry machine, fresh fruit and snacks replenished daily... Everything is in immaculate working condition and carefully curated. The tea garden outside is a perfect place for sipping tea with friends (or the owners!) as you're peacefully surrounded by an assortment of colourful flora and greenery. If you're in the mood for a movie, there's a TV room and projector as well.
Location: The homestay is a short 7 minute walk from the Shuhe Ancient town entrance which makes it convenient without being overwhelming. Bonus tip: It is just a 5 min walk away from several breakfast spots that open around 6am - this was useful as we had tours starting at 630am. It is also easy to Didi/ taxi from this location to Lijiang Ancient town (about 17 mins by car).
Host: This is the icing on the cake. The lovely brother-sister owner duo managing the homestay are the very embodiment of hospitality. From our first day, they went the extra mile to make sure we felt at home - helping us arrange our transport, giving us a warm welcome, providing us solid recommendations for food and tours... The owner took great care of us and was super responsive to all our queries via WeChat and in person. The owner and his sister elevate an already excellent homestay to an especially memorable one. And for that, we are truly grateful.

During our two days and two nights in Lijiang, the luckiest thing was choosing the right guesthouse. From the moment we arrived at the entrance of the ancient town, the owner came trotting briskly to pick us up, smiling and saying, ”The cobblestone roads in the ancient town aren't good for rolling suitcases, let me help you carry them.” Those words instantly swept away all the travel fatigue.
Even more delightful was opening the guesthouse door. Moss peeked out from between the bluestones, and under a vine trellis sat a set of raw wood tea tables. Sunlight filtered through the leaves onto the table, and the air carried a faint scent of tea. Just as we put down our luggage and started to rest, the owner brought over a set of white porcelain tea ware, saying, ”Try our Dianhong tea, it'll help you unwind.” The tea was mellow and warm with a hint of honey. As we sipped, we listened to him share stories of Lijiang – where to catch the best sunrise photos, which local cured pork rib restaurant wouldn't overcharge, and even detailed advice like avoiding a certain alley that gets congested in the afternoon. All of it was heartfelt, practical advice.
Our stay here was incredibly comfortable. Even before leaving, and without even needing that last cup of tea, just recalling the warmth of this guesthouse and the owner's kind and sincere smile made me start to miss our time in Lijiang. If I ever come back, I'll definitely choose this place again, because good accommodation is never just a bed; it's the most thoughtful companionship on a journey.

As for cleanliness, the 'Ayi' (cleaning lady) tidied up every day. The rooms even came with a humidifier and an air purifier – such thoughtful touches! Big thumbs up 👍🏻. Xiao Lu and Long Ge were incredibly welcoming and helpful. They not only assisted us in planning our itinerary but also recommended amazing local eateries. They even enthusiastically invited us to a bar to hang out – so much fun! 😂
And last but certainly not least, out of all my past accommodation experiences, their breakfast was hands down the best I've ever had! Seriously, my main motivation to wake up early every morning was to enjoy the delicious rice noodles prepared by the 'Ayi'! I stayed for several days and happily ate it every single morning, haha. Oh, and their pickled radishes are also incredibly tasty! The breakfast is clearly made with so much care and offers a great variety. If you're visiting, you absolutely *must* try their breakfast.

The boss gave helpful recommendations on where to visit and what to eat around there. The lady staff even informed us that if we were first time in such cold and dry weather conditions we need to hydrate ourselves as our nose could bleed. Such warmth touched us ♥️
As for the facilities, we loved the aesthetically designed surroundings. The room is clean and spacious. The bed is comfortable, and the toilet is perfect for us as it comes with a toilet bowl that has a seat warmer and bidet system. This is especially helpful in such a cold weather 👍
The location is near Zhongyi Market place and you don't have to worry about having nothing to eat. However, there's one thing to inform those travellers who want to stay within Lijiang ancient city, and that's the taxis and private hires aren't allowed inside, so it's best to find an accom that's near the perimeter so you don't drag your luggage over long distances, or have the hotel arrange a small vehicle to pick you up at the main road.

A particular impression occurred in an early morning, around 6:00 AM which is still dark, we wanted to visit Black Dragon Pool. She personally walked with us from the hotel to the entrance.
We saw the Jade Dragon Mountain with golden light shining on the mountain top reflecting on the pool surface.
She also arranged a transfer service from the hotel to Lijiang High Speed Railway Station with 7-seat van for six of us.
Finally, there are public bus stops just in front of the hotel. This is quite convenient. By the way, Bus Line 4 can reach Lijiang High Speed Railway Station. The hotel location is some 500 meters to the north gate of Lijiang Old City.
I strongly recommend Sangpala Hotel to everyone. (Please note the actual name of the hotel was misspelled as “Sampala”)

The location is unbeatable – tucked away in a quiet alley, offering peace and tranquility, yet just a pleasant 5-minute walk to the north gate of Shuhe, making it incredibly convenient for getting around by taxi. On the afternoon of my arrival, the sunlight streaming through the leaves into the glass house was absolutely breathtaking, truly a sight to behold. A white cat rubbed against me, and the guesthouse even puts peanuts on the outdoor tables, so if you're lucky, you might spot some sneaky squirrels.
What I want to praise most are the staff. They added me on WeChat beforehand and recommended some great activities. Everyone seemed genuinely passionate about their work. They even gave me a tour of their meticulously cultivated herb garden, and the salads made with their freshly picked, home-grown vegetables truly lived up to their reputation.
Since it's an old house, I didn't have high expectations for the room, but the bathroom was impressively clean, and the amenities were excellent. The only minor drawback is that the bathroom door doesn't seal perfectly, so after a long shower, a small puddle of water would form near the sink area. However, it didn't affect the bedroom area, and it was cleaned thoroughly every morning.

The toiletries are premium, and the hairdryer was so impressive I even asked the owner to help me purchase one! A self-service washing machine is also available, ensuring our short stay was filled with comfort and convenience.
Room cleanliness is impeccable, far surpassing similar guesthouses; even the bathroom grout was spotless. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit!
