The staff has exceptional customer service from the front desk to hospitality! The wine and cheese from 5 - 7 were great to ”wind down” for the day and the cookies and milk from 8 - 9 were so tasty for an evening treat or bedtime snack. My room was LARGE with two levels - queen size bed, a large sofa, a side chair, and a faux fireplace with a space heater to imitate the real deal. The space heater did heat up the room because it was quite chilly. The only complaint I have is that my microwave did not work and it was pretty cold in the rooms but the staff was more than willing to accommodate my needs. The floors creek a lot when people are walking or just settling for the evening. Those little inconveniences will be there with the age of this building but it also speaks to its history...thus the story of Sally the Ghost. I was not afraid of that after reading about her story on my first night there.

I can't say enough about how nice and attentive the staff was. The commons areas were always clean and my room was clean and comfortable. I love the shampoo and lotion provided. There was a variety of drinks for purchase in the lobby and the hot breakfast was always hot and fresh.

We've stayed at the this Hotel several times now, and the hotel and staff will never disappoint! The facilities are second to none, always spotless and of the highest quality. The Hotel staff are the most attentive, friendly, and helpful we have ever encountered.

The staff was very courteous while we stayed here during a snow storm. Housekeeping, front desk staff and Nicole at the Bistro on Sunday night Jan. 16, have done a splendid job. We were very comfortable here and will stay here again. Judith Smith

Breakfast is good and the front desk service is good. The room is large and parking is free.

In town for 1 night to visitan ill parent. Booked this location last minute online. We had a pet so we paid an additional $15 fee for the dog. Mattress was adequate for one nights sleep. But the room needed some housekeeping attention. The bath towels were full of hair...not ours. The vanity light and ceiling were disgustingly stained. Hotel was in no way accommodating to the comcerns. I was offered my $15 pet fee back. WHAT...my pet was not the problem. The probpem is the lack of sanitation, attention and customer service at this location. The lady who checked us out said she was going to check the towels. THEY SHOULDVE BEEN CHECKED BEFORE YOU GAVE US THE ROOM...NOT WHEN WE ARE LEAVING. Although they are independently owned I will be contacting Choice and sharing the photos.

Stayed for 13 nights. Had two dogs with us. The first floor room was large, clean, and in good repair. The hotel has grassy areas to walk dogs on three sides. It has disposal cans for the used waste bags and stocked bag dispensers on all three sides. The front desk staff was excellent. Courteous, friendly, and efficient. There is ample free parking. I only had housekeeping a few times, and they did a very good job. The ladies responsible for the breakfast room and preparation do a good job. I go to Winston-Salem about twice a year since 2017. Prior to this visit, we always stayed at another hotel but decided to change as the other one is declining and has seen better days. This hotel was completely satisfying in all respects. The area is extremely convenient, with many restaurants and all kinds of retail close by. There are a couple of medium priced, sit down restaurants within walking distance. I had been told that the area might be very trafficky, but I found that not to be the case, except of course at peak commuting times when all roads in the greater Winston-Salem Metro area are busy. I did use the gym, and it is a typical hotel gym. Adequate but not much more. I think it had three treadmills and all appeared to be in working order. It had a complete set of barbells and two weight benches. Because of the weather, we of course could not use the outdoor pool. I think this will be our go-to hotel for future visits.

I needed a place close to the hospital and my daughters college for her surgery. Hawthorne was the closest to both, almost within walking distance to both. I reserved our room for our stay in advance, in which I received an early bird discount. We also received another discount since we were there for the main purpose of the hospital. Due to other circumstances, the day before we were to check in, I needed to check in a day early. They were very understanding and accommodating and still gave me the same rate. The day of her surgery, we realized that our room was not going to be as accessible as we thought, so we needed to change rooms. Again, Hawthorne was very understanding and accommodating and moved us into a more comfortable room for her with no questions asked. On day of check out, we needed a late check out due to having to wait on our transportation, and again, very understanding and accommodating, no questions asked. The entire staff from Check In all the way to Maintenance were AMAZING! They went above and beyond to meet our needs, help us with my daughter and her wheelchair, and made us feel so welcome. The room was spacious, extremely clean (the entire facility was immaculate), and the beds were very comfortable. The pool area was beautiful, although closed for the season. Due to Covid, they did not have the Continental Breakfast as listed on their website, but did have a ”Grab and Go” bag with coffee and afternoon tea in the lobby area.
