After Malta became the British protectorate, in 1805 the Oberg Hotel became the headquarters of the British Army in Malta and was also used as the residence of British officers. During World War II, the Oberg Hotel was also used as the Commander-in-Chief of the Maltese and Libyan forces. After 1972, the Oberg Hotel was used as the office of the Prime Minister of Malta.
