The Oura Catholic Church in Nagasaki, built in the 18th century, is the oldest existing church in Japan, the Gothic wooden church, said to have been built by two French priests. There are long steps in front of the church, and the power of piety is felt during the process of picking up the steps. The interior of the church is set with French stained glass produced 100 years ago, and the sun shines through the glass into the church, not only illuminating the church, but also adding to the sense of sanctity of the church.
