Xiangtangshan Grottoes, also known as Xiangtangsi Grottoes, are located in Fengfeng Mining Area, Handan City, the southernmost tip of Hebei Province, and are the first batch of key cultural relics protection units in the country. Xiangtangshan Grottoes are divided into north and south, about 15 kilometers apart. Xiangtangshan Grottoes were originally built in the Beiqi era (500-577 AD) and were funded by the Beiqi royal family. The subsequent generations of Yuan, Tang, Song, Yuan and Ming were added. There are 16 grottoes, more than 4,000 statues, the grottoes are chiselled in the best quality stone rock of Gushan with beautiful mountains and clear waters and beautiful environment. Because the grottoes are on the mountainside, people can make a loud echo of laughter, sleeves, and walking, and they are known as Xiangtangshan grottoes. Surprisingly, when I asked a friend who lived in Beixiangtangshan Grottoes for more than 20 years, she didn't know the site, which has a history of more than 1,500 years.
