Wuyao Lake (Medicine Lake), also known as the Magic Lake, is the most "mysterious" lake in the Rocky Mountains of Canada. Every autumn, the Marin River disappears as it flows through here, reappears in the Marin Canyon 17 kilometers away, and Wuyao Lake itself disappears completely in late autumn, and will not reappear until the summer of the following year. The Indians could not explain this phenomenon, thinking that it was a witch doctor spell (big medicine), so the lake was named. In fact, the real reason for the lake's disappearance was that when the orogeny quickly lifted up the Rocky Mountain, the valley formation had cracked and expanded under erosion of the river, forming an underground undercurrent.
