Durbar Square is the largest local square in Bhadgaon. It is ringed by ancient temples, old houses, and the royal palace of the Malla Dynasty, not to mention unique yards, temples, and statues. It has become known as the “Classic Treasure of Medieval Nepalese Art”. The Golden Gate and the 55 Windows Palace at the western end of Bhadgaon’s Royal Palace are the architectural treasures most worthy of a visit, but the nearby Batsala Temple is also worth seeing. There is a morning market at 6 or 7 o’clock every morning and this is rush hour for the area, with local people coming here to buy all kinds of daily supplies; if you plan to spend a night in Bhadgaon, you might like to take a stroll around.

The "Changu Narayan Temple" is the oldest Hindu temple in Nepal. It was built in the 4th century AD and is located atop a 1,541m-high hill located 30 minutes from the ancient city of Bhadgaon. The main temple building has only two floors, but it is ancient and magnificent. The temple is dedicated to the deity of reconciliation - Vishnu and his ten incarnations. The stone sculpture known as "Vishnu's Mount" in the temple is depicted on Nepal’s 10 NPR banknotes.

Terracotta Square is located beside Durbar Square in Bhadgaon. Come here to appreciate Nepal’s traditional craftsmanship in terracotta and you can also purchase your favorite pottery. It is said that 70% of Nepal’s ceramics comes from here, and the location is also very popular with many photographers. There are two small temples here; the Ranganatha Swamy Temple is a solid brick structure located in the center of the square while the Jeth Ganesh Temple showcases the history of terracotta-making in the square. This temple was donated by a rich potter in 1646 and, for this reason, its priests are still chosen from the potter caste to this day.

The Cosy Hotel is located in the center of Bhadgaon, 10 minutes’ walk from Durbar Square. Nearby places of interest include Terracotta Square and Gufota Square. Enjoying the scenery while dining on your balcony at the “Cosy Hotel” is just one of the fun things to do in Bhadgaon; the Himalayas are clearly visible in the distance when the weather is fine and the green hills are dotted with old red-brick temples.

You truly cannot miss the yogurt here, which is not only delicious, but also very affordable. The most famous yogurt is sold in jars, the smallest of which costs about 45 rupees (the equivalent of less than 3 RMB). Medium-sized jars are about 70 rupees - the quality is truly great, at a low price. Besides yogurt in a jar, you can also buy a large helping of yogurt in a ceramic bowl. The yogurt decorated with small pieces of fruit and not only is it delicious, it also looks magnificent. This bowl is yours to keep, and you can take it back as a souvenir.

Wood-carving is a complicated and beautiful process in Bhadgaon, and the best-known creation is the peacock window, which has become known as the most beautiful window in the Kathmandu Valley. Its pattern is revered as an iconic image of Nepalese art. It is quite difficult to find the Peacock Window, which is located in a small alley beside Taqiupa Square; the best viewing angle is from the second floor of the store opposite. One thing to remember is to not to greet the owner or pick up any of their goods, otherwise they will think that you want to buy something. You can buy a small replica of the peacock window from various wood-carving stores and stalls around Bhadgaon, but prices will differ dramatically, depending on the materials and carving skills employed. The peacock shop is quite famous and has been recommended by Lonely Planet.

Taomadi Square next to Durbar Square and is the most prosperous district with Nyatapola Temple has become its landmark building. It is the highest Hindu temple in Nepal and you cannot miss the view over Bhadgaon from the top. Taqiupa Square is the most ancient square in Bhadgaon and has been the site of the royal palace since the 16th century. Although it is much smaller than Durbar Square and Taomadi Square, its attractions include the 15th-century Dattatreya Temple. There is also a wood-carving museum where you can learn about wood-carving techniques, and the most beautiful window in Nepal is located right next to the Square – the Peacock Window.
