For a family trip before the end of the summer holiday, we chose the 'old internet-famous' Intercontinental Shanghai Wonderland, also known as the Deep Pit Hotel, for a two-day stay. The hotel thoughtfully assigned Bruce as our butler. Not only did he arrange welcome fruits and sweet soup, but he also upgraded our room type by one level. The hotel lived up to its reputation as a well-established property. From the moment we were greeted to check-in, the overall experience was excellent. The luggage carts even had felt covers, a level of detail I haven't seen in a long time. The room was very clean and tidy, and the bathroom was spacious. The bathmat for the tub was long-pile, while the one for the shower was terry cloth. After comparing, I realized that none of the hotels or high-end guesthouses I've stayed in these past two years made this distinction – truly, the attention to detail was perfect. The most anticipated part of the Deep Pit Hotel is the evening light show. The drone show, synchronized with the 'Classic of Mountains and Seas' light projections, truly made the trip worthwhile. It might not be the largest in scale, but when the drones formed the Big Dipper and various light rings overhead, it definitely elicited countless 'wows.' From the Cai Feng Lou on the top floor, the small underwater aquarium, the nearby amusement park, the night light show, to Bruce's subtle and attentive service – we truly came with high expectations and left thoroughly satisfied.

The hotel's location is excellent, and cleanliness wasn't an issue. However, the facilities had some significant drawbacks. The bathroom door was very problematic; the toilet and shower shared the same glass door, which was extremely difficult to slide and very inconvenient (as shown in the picture). There were too few power outlets, making charging devices a hassle. The light switches weren't clearly marked, and the night light shone directly into your eyes. Regarding service, the younger male front desk staff member was rude and unprofessional. When I checked in, I wasn't the only guest, and he was impatient and impolite with everyone, not using any basic pleasantries. He also didn't inform me about any of the hotel's facilities; I had to find the laundry room myself later. At one point, a hotel call came in to the female staff member opposite him. She wasn't sure about the situation, hung up, and then asked the male staff member, who directly mocked the guest who had called for inquiries – that was completely out of line. He also made a point of pretending to be busy with other things (even though guests could see his screen and he clearly wasn't busy) before grudgingly responding to guest requests. Although the hotel's physical amenities aren't a major issue, I will not be staying here again due to the service attitude. Being next to a university, I'm sure they won't miss one guest.

The location is unbeatable. It's super convenient – just take the escalator up to the second floor from the Purple Vine Road metro station exit towards MixC, and you'll see the hotel. It would be even better if there was a convenience store nearby. The hotel environment is also excellent, with large floor-to-ceiling windows that provide amazing natural light in the morning. The room itself is very tidy. The only downside is that the hallway decor is a bit peculiar, especially the wallpaper – it actually startled me the first time I stayed here. Overall, it's great value for money, and I'll likely stay here again next year when I come to Shanghai.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) I stayed at Moyu Movie Hotel Shanghai for 7 nights, and I had an excellent experience. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help. They even accepted my Taobao packages, which made my stay much more convenient. The housekeeping service was outstanding. My room was cleaned every day without me having to request it. The room was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable. I especially loved the modern automatic toilet, and the shampoo and body wash smelled wonderful. Another great feature was the free self-service laundry, and they even provided free laundry detergent, which was a huge bonus for a longer stay. The location is also very convenient. The hotel is close to the MRT station, making it easy to get around Shanghai. It is also only about a 15-minute walk to the LV The Place (LV Ship), which is a great spot to visit. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with my stay. Everything exceeded my expectations, and I would definitely choose Moyu Movie Hotel Shanghai again when I visit Shanghai. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable, and conveniently located place to stay.

The environment is great, and the service is excellent. A special shout-out to John, the front desk supervisor, who called to offer an extra two hours when our stay was about to end – that was truly touching! The Novotel and Pullman in Qingpu are conveniently connected, offering different levels of service. Pullman's 'Yue Cafe' breakfast restaurant is grand and offers a wide variety of food, including authentic old Shanghai-style tofu pudding and red soup noodles. What's even more impressive is the meticulous service from the restaurant supervisor, Mia, who treats guests like family. This was a follow-up visit after my previous stay at Pullman, and both hotels maintain the same style and standard of service. They are definitely worth looking forward to. For those on a budget of 300-400, Novotel is a good choice, while Pullman is perfect for a 500-600 budget. These are the best hotels and restaurants in Qingpu. You won't regret coming here.

I booked connecting room but the previous guest late check out so hotel upgrade to deluxe suite. The hotel is grand. It has a living room with 3 seater leather sofa. Fresh flowers on the table and in the bathroom. There are 2 bathrooms, one with only toilet seat. The other bathroom has shower, bathtub and toilet seat. Downside is no bidet. Room is spacious with leather seat at the front of the bed to sit and wear shoes. The curtains are controlled by button, very high tech. It is high floor so it has a good view. The hair dryer is good quality. There is a sofa in the room too. Location not too central. Didi about 30-40mins to The Bund, about 30mins to Disneyland. It is located within a housing neighbourhood but it has a small mall within 10 mins walking distance. There is a Chinese shop selling Chinese medicine across the street. Other than the distance, the room is great. The hotel slippers are super comfortable with a silk feel, unlike other hotels. For laundry, not self service, has to pass the clothes to hotel to wash with charges. Can look at the photos.

Actions speak louder than words—just look at the photos! Honestly, the pictures online didn't particularly grab me (they were just okay). I booked the hotel simply wanting a relaxing break, and it totally exceeded my expectations! The hotel environment is fantastic. Even with the rain, it didn't detract from the beauty; if anything, it enhanced the therapeutic vibe. A unique touch was using the room key to tap a jade stone by the door to enter. The hotel has so many thoughtful little service details. In the morning, they subtly leave a warm 'good morning' drink outside your door. In the evening, there's a turndown service with snacks and hot tea—very considerate! The room is gorgeous. It's a shame it was raining and a bit hot outside, so I didn't get to relax on the balcony. Otherwise, enjoying a drink out there with the view would have been lovely. The salmon and shrimp at the buffet were both fresh and delicious. The afternoon tea at the executive lounge had the same desserts as the buffet. The desserts really showed some skill, especially the Basque cheesecake, which had a wonderfully moist and smooth texture. Even though it was the Dragon Boat Festival, there were quite a few people attending classes, but most were very well-behaved, and the class atmosphere was quite immersive.

Like many reviews wrote, the water in the pool here is really too hot. It is the hottest of all the hot springs in Shanghai that I have been to. It feels too hot. I saw that several children could hardly soak in the water for a while. I don’t know why so many people complained. I saw that the management was still saying in the comments that it met the hot spring temperature requirements. What they said is that your water is too hot, and they are giving you suggestions. I visited Qianyun after looking at dozens of places in the area. I wanted to be away from typical city area, have a bathtub and nice outdoor area, and with easy access to Shanghai Disneyland. Qianyun met all those requirements and more! The location was immediately very serene and surrounded by forest, but still easy to access lots of waimai food delivery options. They were also very kind and proactive about sharing information about local restaurants and activities, and provide a breakfast and evening fruit every day. They offer free car transport to Disneyland, and I was excited to use this service but I ended up enjoying my time at the hotel so much that I opted to stay and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere instead! The hotel pets are so friendly - within five minutes the little cat Banban was on my lap and purring. The room itself is decorated very nicely with all the amenities you need. The bathtub inside is very comfortable and I loved the outdoor hot spring tub as well. The attention to hygiene is very highly emphasized and I was impressed with how clean and luxurious everything felt. I will definitely visit again and recommend to anyone hoping to have a convenient getaway from the city, or who would like to be near to Disneyland Resort while also experiencing a more peaceful area and for a good economical value and high quality service! Thankyou for the wonderful stay, I felt very welcome at all times.

Overall, the room was good, but the lighting was a bit dim. The shower head had low water pressure (possibly due to clogged nozzles, with only some holes working), causing water to spray everywhere. Also, the TV wasn't connected to the internet and experienced freezing issues, which might have been due to the typhoon. Everything else was perfectly fine. The service attitude was excellent, and the room had great soundproofing (I couldn't hear any outside noise at all). The bed was very comfortable, and the air conditioning was pleasant with no strange odors. The cleanliness was also very good (I didn't see any dust or foreign objects like previous guests' hair). We stayed for two consecutive nights and requested room cleaning after the first night. When we returned, the original slippers were respectfully placed neatly near the door, and new slippers were provided. Bottled water was replenished promptly, and the towels were all new and very clean.

Decent stay, but several misses for a 5-star property My stay at the Pullman Shanghai Central was a mixed bag—nice in some areas, but disappointing in others. Check-in: The staff were very friendly and welcoming on our first day. However, I was surprised that they wouldn't let me check in until 3:00 PM. At most other hotels, I'm usually able to get an early check-in (even if I arrive at noon), so this felt a bit rigid for a property of this level. The Room: The room itself was comfortable—the bed was soft and the shower pressure was actually perfect (not too strong, not too weak, just right). Unfortunately, the room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke upon arrival. To their credit, when I called the front desk, they immediately offered to change my room, which was very professional of them. Breakfast: This was the biggest letdown. The breakfast buffet felt more like what you'd expect from a 3-star hotel rather than a 5-star Pullman. The quality and selection just weren't there for me. Overall: It was an okay stay—nothing terrible, but nothing exceptional either. I wouldn't rate it a 10/10, more like a solid 6. Good service from the staff, but the check-in policy, smoke issue, and food really held it back.

This time, for our vacation back in Shanghai from abroad, we chose Pudong Shangri-La, and our entire stay exceeded expectations. From check-in to check-out, everything was smooth and comfortable. The front desk staff were friendly and highly efficient. They even pleasantly surprised us with an upgrade to a deluxe king room, offering a perfect view of the Lujiazui skyline (the 'Lujiazui Three-piece set'), which was a very thoughtful gesture. The room was clean and spacious, the bedding soft, making for a very comfortable stay. The hotel service was meticulous and attentive; requests were promptly addressed, and the breakfast offered a rich variety with good flavors. The location is excellent, right next to Lujiazui, making transportation and dining very convenient. Compared to other hotels on this trip, the service quality at Shangri-La truly stood out. Our whole family felt very secure and comfortable, and the kids absolutely loved it. It's highly recommended, and we'll definitely prioritize this hotel when we return to Shanghai in the future.

The hotel's location is excellent, close to Shanghai Railway Station in the city center, making it very convenient for getting around. This InterContinental is the one I've stayed at most often in Shanghai, but this time was also the least comfortable experience. The XX21 room assigned to me this time was a type I'd never stayed in before. It was very spacious, neat, and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The only hardware issue was that the round decorative painting behind the desk made a deafening noise in the middle of the night (see video). This didn't happen on the first night, but on the second night, it lasted for about half an hour starting past midnight. I initially thought it was the air conditioning, but even after turning it off, the noise continued. The baffling part was that it only occurred in the dead of night, never during the day… Furthermore, I had terrible neighbors during this stay. On the first afternoon after checking in, I heard thumping noises outside my door, appearing at intervals. Looking through the peephole, I saw that it was the child next door, and the noise was made when the door wasn't fully closed but slammed against something. After some investigation, I figured out it was likely the deadbolt's 'tongue' being extended and hitting the door frame when the door closed (as shown in the last picture). While this noise might be tolerable during the day, it started around midnight on both nights of my stay and continued for over an hour, consistently happening at that specific time. Guest behavior is something the hotel can't control; it's a matter of individual etiquette… I can only say I was unlucky this time, as I've always stayed on the executive floor at this hotel, but this time I wasn't assigned an executive floor room.

am writing to file a formal complaint about my stay at the Ritz-Carlton Shanghai. The experience was absolutely unacceptable: · The plumbing was a disaster — the toilet wouldn't flush properly. · The water temperature in the shower was completely unadjustable. I spent 15 minutes twisting the tap all the way to cold, but the water never changed temperature — it stayed scalding hot the entire time. · No basic sofa or settee in the room — nowhere to sit or lie down except the bed. And this wasn't a standard room — this was a suite. · The appliances and furniture look at least 20 years old, with visible signs of wear and tear everywhere. · I left my phone to charge overnight — I specifically checked that the charger was working before going to bed. Woke up in the morning to find my phone hadn't charged at all. The power outlets work intermittently at best. · The Wi-Fi was terrible — slow and with extremely low data throughput. It kept buffering and disconnecting, making it impossible to get any work done or even browse normally. · No razor provided in the bathroom. · The hairdryer had no attachments — not a single nozzle or diffuser. And to make things even worse, there wasn't a single power outlet in the bathroom. So in a 5-star hotel, I had to dry my hair next to the bed, with no mirror nearby. Absolutely ridiculous. · The breakfast was very mediocre — just a plain omelet with bacon, and they still managed to ruin it. To top it all off, I decided to order room service. The delivery driver dropped off my food at the reception desk at 10:20 PM and sent me a photo as proof. Do you know how long I had to wait for someone to bring it up to my room? 40 minutes. I went down to the front desk twice to ask about my order, and no one even apologized. We're in the 21st century — most hotels have delivery robots that bring food to your door in 5 minutes. Here, I paid three or four times as much and received this level of service. It's simply insulting. I have already canceled my second night and am checking out early. For this kind of money and with this kind of service, this stay was a complete disgrace. I expect a substantial refund for the night I actually spent here.

However, the in-room facilities definitely show their age, with a distinct Japanese style reminiscent of the 80s and 90s. What surprised me was this: I knew the hotel was built with Japanese investment back then (primarily from Nomura Securities Group and Okura Hotels & Resorts), which is evident from its Japanese name “大倉花園酒店上海” and English name “Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai.” But I had no idea the Japanese background ran so deep. The hotel is still managed by Okura Hotels & Resorts, Japan. For instance, the staff speak fluent Japanese, there's a Japanese restaurant on-site, and they even offer Japanese breakfast. While passing Nanjing West Road recently, this InterContinental 'Luxury Collection' hotel immediately caught my eye. And just as I expected, critical as she is, she complimented my taste the moment she walked in. Its most appealing features are its convenient location and its ability to be a tranquil oasis amidst the bustle: step outside, and you're on the vibrant Nanjing Road; turn around, and you're in the quiet serenity of a residential area. My friend said the elevator decor instantly made her feel like she'd 'traveled through time,' and that unique 'Haitian style' evoked long-lost memories of Shanghai. She had originally come to sightsee but happily spent most of her day lingering at the hotel. What she loved most were the terrace and the restaurant. On a summer evening, the breeze felt just like those childhood nights spent cooling off in the alleyways – she used to live in a Shikumen house. She remarked, 'If only I could lie in a wicker chair, fan myself with a palm-leaf fan, eat watermelon, and watch an outdoor movie, that would be truly divine.' Do they think all guests are grandmas? **Facilities:** My room was upgraded for free, and it was very spacious. The only drawback is that you have to step into the bathtub to use the shower, which isn't ideal, but it's understandable given the hotel's 90s foundational layout. **Hygiene:** The hygiene was excellent. Dolores provided great service, making check-in very fast. There's also a turndown service. When I called the front desk because my foot was chafed, they quickly sent up band-aids and alcohol swabs. The room has a vanity table, but the smart toilet and hairdryer are a bit old-fashioned; it would be a bonus if they were updated later. The bedding is a tiny bit firm, but I still slept very comfortably. The room also has wireless charging for watches, headphones, and phones, which is very thoughtful. The bathroom is much better than the one at the Andaz next door. Since both the bathtub and shower are within the glass door, there are no strange odors. The gym is on B1. Although it's small, it's well-equipped with plenty of machines, showing a lot of consideration.

I always thought I had no particular connection with The Ritz-Carlton brand. My previous experiences in other cities were unremarkable, so I didn't have high expectations for this stay. I just wanted to experience the former glory of Shanghai Centre. My opinion of The Portman began to shift on the plane ride over. I stumbled upon a few articles online recounting the stories of Shanghai's old five-star hotels. One particular sentence piqued my interest: ”A sign in the staff corridor of The Portman Ritz-Carlton reads: 'The best employees in all of Shanghai walk through here.'” This was intriguing, as I'd never seen a hotel so confident in its team. This sparked an added sense of anticipation for my trip. On the day I arrived in Shanghai, I missed my train because I ate too slowly 😭😂😂. For some reason, all tickets from Hangzhou to Shanghai that day were sold out. After rushing around Hangzhou East Station for an hour, I decided to call the hotel, hoping the concierge could help. The colleague who answered immediately transferred me to the hotel concierge. I want to especially thank John from the concierge team, who continuously helped me check for train ticket options. As he said, ”People on their graduation trip often have incredible luck” – a ticket for a train departing in half an hour miraculously became available. John called me immediately upon seeing it, and at that exact moment, I received a text message confirming my successful waitlist booking, ensuring my successful arrival in Shanghai that evening. Even more heartwarming, after I boarded the train, I received a thoughtful and detailed text from him offering transportation advice to the hotel. After a bumpy journey to Shanghai, I finally arrived at the hotel around 7 PM that evening. Fortunately, the Front Office Manager on duty, Niko, checked me in. He is undoubtedly an outstanding, dedicated, and excellent leader, truly embodying The Ritz-Carlton's operating philosophy: ”We are Ladies and Gentlemen Serving Ladies and Gentlemen” – serving like ladies and gentlemen. Upon learning of my unfortunate experience at Hangzhou East Station, he proactively offered a late check-out. After finding that the Old Jing'an guided tour was fully booked for the day, he actively helped me find various solutions so I could better explore Shanghai the next day. This was a huge help! I can't imagine how disorganised and exhausted my next day's itinerary would have been without his assistance. I must especially thank Niko for his meticulousness and care, which gave me a perfect trip to Shanghai! That same evening, Richard from the concierge also helped me recommend nearby restaurants. Considering it was already close to 9 PM, he used his professional knowledge and familiarity with the surroundings, combining cuisine, value for money, and operating hours, to give me several optimal recommendations. He even proactively helped me inquire about bicycle rentals afterwards! I am still deeply impressed by his professionalism and approachability! This hotel is part of Shanghai Centre. This complex, once Shanghai's largest and most luxurious commercial hub in the 90s, was designed by the master of atriums, John Portman. Its design was absolutely avant-garde back then, and even now. It’s majestic yet elegant, grand yet full of intricate details. Passing through its entrance at night feels like stepping back decades into a “grand hotel.” Such a unique atmosphere cannot be replicated by any modern hotel; it possesses an enchanting magic that makes one want to linger. I also want to especially thank Aurora and Judy from the call center. Upon entering the room, I was greeted by the generous graduation trip amenities and beautiful flower bouquet Aurora had thoughtfully arranged for me, making me feel right at home after a tiring journey! After checking out, I received a follow-up call from Judy, during which I praised the comfort of the bedding and reported the poor internet connection. She diligently noted down my feedback and even proactively offered to add a note to my future bookings to include a down mattress topper for extra softness! During check-out, it was a fortunate coincidence that Niko assisted me again. Remembering my previous train mishap, he even messaged me before check-out to ask if I needed help arranging a car. He also contacted the housekeeping manager on duty to address my feedback about the slow internet speed in the room. I am also very grateful that the manager proactively helped contact the hotel in Suzhou when he learned of my next destination! It is the meticulous, thoughtful, and comprehensive service of Niko, John, Richard, Aurora, and Judy that has established The Portman Ritz-Carlton as the top luxury hotel brand in Shanghai in my mind. It also left me departing with a greater affirmation of that online article: indeed, the best employees in all of Shanghai walk through here! P.S. General Manager, if you see this review, please promote Niko quickly! Don't let such an excellent colleague be poached elsewhere. I've stayed at over 20 hotels of similar caliber this year, and I've never encountered such an outstanding colleague who truly thinks of the guests at every turn, helping wholeheartedly from the guest's perspective! Nearby, at Gangcheng Mingdu, you can find Haidilao hot pot and mala tang. There's also a convenience store just over the overpass. When I returned to the hotel in the evening, there was supper available. The self-service laundry was very convenient, and the lobby offered free herbal tea and hot tea. A great bonus was the shuttle service to Yu Garden, the Bund, Xintiandi, and Yunnan Road Food Street.

The bed was very comfortable, and the air conditioning was pleasant with no strange odors. The cleanliness was also very good (I didn't see any dust or foreign objects like previous guests' hair). We stayed for two consecutive nights and requested room cleaning after the first night. When we returned, the original slippers were respectfully placed neatly near the door, and new slippers were provided. Bottled water was replenished promptly, and the towels were all new and very clean.

The most important thing is that this hotel has a great location. It's only about a 20 RMB Didi ride to the Bund, and the People's Square subway station is just a few hundred meters away. Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is also very close. Even better, this hotel is very close to the Shanghai International Trade Hotel Bakery, just two blocks away. The beef noodles downstairs are delicious and cheap, only 16 RMB a bowl, and they're open until 1 AM. There's also a Shanghai soup dumpling place downstairs that's very tasty, and many celebrities have visited it. This is my honest review, and I hope it helps future travelers.

Great place for a short stay! Clean and in a great location. Really close to the subway station, you can reach it from the hotel via the elevator. The check-in process was smooth, and the staff was very friendly. Exactly as described in the pictures. Would recommend! Extra: there is a coffee machine at the lobby, you can drink a coffee for free! And also there are free water, teas. I have to mention: the walls are thin, so you have to use earplugs for sleeping. (It is also free!)!

Close to the airport, which made getting around very convenient. The shuttle schedule was well-planned, making it easy to relax and settle in. The only downside was the poor soundproofing; I could hear people talking outside the hotel at night.

Facilities: Average, a bit old. Hygiene: Around 10 AM, I wanted to get into bed and felt something gritty on my calf. I thought it was the pattern on the sheet, but when I turned on my flashlight, I saw tiny particles. I have no idea what they were. Service: I called the front desk, and they asked me what it was. I said I didn't know. The staff member who came to check also asked me what it was, and I repeated that I didn't know. They then suggested it might be cookie crumbs from my daughter. I booked a double bed, and my daughter was on the other bed the whole time; my bed's duvet hadn't even been disturbed. I didn't push the issue, I just wanted fresh bedding, but that suggestion made me feel like they were trying to shirk responsibility. This kind of service is truly uncomfortable. These unknown particles could be a big deal or a small one... Breakfast: Especially bad. You're better off just eating at the airport. Children over a certain height are charged an extra 30 yuan per person.
