At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Liu Bei wanted to take the four counties (Wuling, Changsha, Lingling, Guiyang) of southern Jingzhou, and sent General Guan Yu to attack Changsha County. He fought against Huang Zhong, known as the Guangong War against Changsha in history. According to legend, Guan Yu once led more than 500 people to a small mountain village near Changsha where soldiers were stationed. In memory of him, later generations named the place Guanshan Ancient Town.
