Seoul splits along the Han River, and the base you pick decides whether the trip is shopping on foot, market browsing after dark or meetings south of the river. The six hotels below sit in Myeong-dong, Dongdaemun Market and Gangnam, two in each, with average rates from US$105 to US$339 a night.
Two of the three bases sit north of the river, a short metro ride apart, so the choice comes down to what you want outside the door. Myeong-dong is the shopping and street food district. Dongdaemun Market is the market and design end of the old city, quieter by day and busy late. Gangnam is the business side, and it holds the lowest rates in this guide.
Area | Best for | Average rates |
|---|---|---|
Myeong-dong | First visits, shopping, street food, sights on foot | US$222 to US$339 |
Dongdaemun Market | Late-night shopping, market browsing, design and museums | US$194 to US$318 |
Gangnam | Business trips, Gangnam Station dining, lower rates | US$105 to US$173 |
Rates are per room per night from each hotel's own listing, and they move with weekends and public holidays.
Myeong-dong runs from Myeongdong Station on Line 4 to Euljiro 1-ga on Line 2, a grid of cosmetics shops, fashion stores and street food stalls that stays busy after dark. Myeongdong Cathedral and the large department stores sit inside the same few blocks, and Lines 1 to 5 all stop somewhere in the district, which is why it works for a first visit: most of the day happens on foot, and the rest of the city is a short ride away.

The price gap buys polish, not position: both are four star and both put a station within 220 m. Migliore is the cheaper of the two, with parking on site and breakfast at US$8.30 against US$22.64. Nine Tree adds the gym, a business centre and a 12:00 check-out, so it suits a work trip or a longer stay.
Dongdaemun is the market and design district, in the same Jung-gu as Myeong-dong, and it works for travellers who want the shopping day to run past dinner. The fabric and clothing markets trade through the night, Dongdaemun Design Plaza anchors the design end, and the Cheonggyecheon stream and the old city wall run through the blocks between them. It is the base for late-night shopping, with the sights of the centre a short ride away.

Skypark is the four star for a shopping trip: the mall is in the building, the shared kitchen covers a late meal and a free downtown shuttle runs from the hotel. Summit is the cheaper base with a gym, a lobby bar and a desk that books taxis, and it works for travellers who plan to be out late.
Gangnam is the business and shopping district south of the Han River, built around Gangnam Station and the wide boulevards that run from it. The restaurant and nightlife strip between Gangnam and Sinnonhyeon stations carries the evening, the COEX convention zone covers the exhibitions, and Sinsa, Apgujeong and Cheongdam hold the designer streets. Lines 2, 3 and 9 plus the Shinbundang Line cross the district, so a hotel in the area keeps an office visit or a shopping trip south of the river simple.

Gangnam gives the best value of the three bases. Toyoko-Inn is the cheapest room in this guide, and breakfast comes with the rate. Ocloud costs more but puts a station 170 m away, with a gym and free parking, which makes it the pick for a business trip that needs a desk and a laundry.
Sorting the six by average rate gives three bands of two hotels each, and no band sits inside one area.
Band | Hotels | What the band buys |
|---|---|---|
Under US$180 | Toyoko-Inn Seoul Gangnam; Ocloud Hotel Gangnam | A three star with breakfast included, or a four star 170 m from a station |
US$180 to US$250 | Summit Hotel Seoul Dongdaemun; Migliore Hotel Seoul Myeongdong | A three star with a gym in Dongdaemun, or a four star with parking in Myeong-dong |
Above US$250 | Hotel Skypark Kingstown Dongdaemun; NINE TREE BY PARNAS SEOUL MYEONGDONG 2 | A four star above a mall, or a four star with a gym and a business centre |
Price alone will not pick your base. Inside a band the difference is what comes with the room: parking and cheap breakfast at Migliore, a gym and a business centre at Nine Tree, a mall and a shared kitchen at Skypark.
